The venerable Clearpoint has a new body? And...I really like it? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?!it's an early access mechanical pencil review, that's what!
Papermate Clearpoint Available in .5, .7, .9 Get Your Own: https://amzn.to/3bOZLku Note: I can't seem to find this unusual new body online! If you have a link, please share it in the comments! Shownotes: New Body Vs Old (Note: The comparison pencil used are the Clearpoints for colored leads) New: No longer side advance- these are back lead advance Slightly smaller body Grip curve is slightly concave, not convex Feel lighter in the hand Can see the lead and the eraser through the pencil body Note: Walmart didn't have the original in graphite lead Is this a replacement or an addition to the lineup (seems to be an addition, as the site has the original) Writing Test: Definitely less bulky- lighter, maybe less plastic? Writes well- there's some give to the advancement- this is to reduced breaking, but there isn't too much give I find this pencil comparable to the G2 and the Velocity- weight, handling, grip are all similar Large twist up eraser is replacable, so it invites use Refill is easy- remove entire back half, cannot refill by removing eraser Compared to the old body: Much easier in the hand Grip is less friction, more cushion I prefer back advancement to side advancement-- side advancement makes finding a good grip difficult Sketching Test: The pink lead was WEIRD- too hard, no pigment. So different from my findings in the earlier review New body is comfortable to sketch with Handles a lot like an inexpensive Japanese mechanical pencil- in a GOOD way, those are my fav I really like the new body- it's comfortable and handles well, but if you want cushion, this isn't your pencil.
