Mud test using the Paul Rubens Tubens:
Rational:
Mud Test Day 1:
No buckling, no kipping, paper dried without to much muddiness. Nice sedimentation. Rough texture is more pronounced with paint than it is to the hand
Mud Test Day 2:
Introduced Masking Fluid
No buckling, no kipping, paper dried without a whole lot of muddiness. Nice wet into wet blends.
Mud Test Day 3:
2nd Layer Masking Fluid:
No buckling, no kipping, paper dried without a whole lot of muddiness. Introduced a lot of opaque colors
Removing masking fluid:
Very easy, no tearing, although it looks like some of the color might've picked up
Removal from Block
Very easy
The Verdict:
While a bit pricy at my favorite brick and mortor, it's quite affordable online, and the rough texture loves granulation. The block does a great job holding the paper tight as you douse it with water. No tearing from the masking fluid. You can really see lovely granulation and opacity shifts, and this paper plays nicely wet into wet and with lots of granulation. As someone who loves round block format, I'm excited about this one, and look forward to doing the fieldtest!
