New Class & Patreon Update Jan 10th (Patreon)

This Monday marks the first meeting for How to Draw Anything, my new class on Volumetric Drawing. This past week, I've been busy this week prepping for this three class series on learning how to draw volumetrically, and changing how you see the world! There's one class per month, but since I've never taught Volumetric Drawing as a three class series (just as a single class session in a much longer class series), I wanted to make sure I was well prepared!
This is also my first class since Nashville Community Ed that's intended for an older audience- adults and older teens. While I love teaching kids, I also really love helping adults see that it's possible to develop a passion for art and illustration at any age, and I love being able to offer accessible and affordable art education.
I write this with all sincerity- this is only possible thanks to the St Charles Parish Library system. Offering art educational content like classes and workshops is expensive for the artist- I needed to buy new visuals (foam 3D shapes), new double-sided pencils, a new large sketchbook, I spent 12 hours creating and recording demos, I'm still tweaking the slideshow- and the library system shoulders the cost by paying me to teach. This means, residents of St Charles Parish are welcome to take the classes for free- they just need to register- AND I get paid to do it. I am so grateful for opportunities like this one- I've footed the expense of teaching on Youtube and on the blog for a long time, and having someone pay me to do it makes it so much easier to dedicate the time and resources necessary to do the job well!
Since this is a technically new class, I prepped by recording a tutorial to help me generate the necessary demo materials, troubleshoot potential issues, and practice teaching the material. I'm also collating existing class material, printing out new material, and creating a slideshow to help keep ADHD old me on track.
If you live in or around St Charles Parish, I encourage you to try and sign up for the class, since it's free to the public thanks to the St Charles Parish Library system! If you miss it this time around but would be interested in taking art classes with me, let them know- we've got more classes planned, but need to see community interest before we can start scheduling. For my friends who are busy on Monday nights, or live too far for the commute, I'm going to share the video tutorial, presentation, and materials with yall here on Patreon, so keep an eye out!January marks a much-needed Youtube content hiatus for me- taking a break from reviewing things frees up time for me to polish classes, work on refining in-progress illustrations, and even work on 7" Kara Chapter 9.
