Shownotes: https://tinyurl.com/bdd9bmt6

Manufactured by the same company that makes Paul Rubens and Meiliang Pigments

Inside:

Somewhat dirty watercolor postcards

Watercolor swatch sheet

Info brochure

Relevant links in the shownotes.

Swatching on their paper:

Color info in the shownotes.

Their paper is really thin and prone to buckling

Colors seem very vibrant

Really reminds me of the Meiliang Pigments palette

I wonder if MP is just a rebrand of O.win, and that's why i can't find anything for O Win

Neutrals are a bit weak, similar to the Meiliang Pigments

Swatching on Blick Studio Watercolor Paper:

Looking for:

Granulation

Wash out ability

Saturation

Opacity

Liftability

Color saturation and granulation is pretty similar to what I saw on their swatch paper.  I was hoping for more granulation, particularly from colors like ultramarine blue, any of the greens, yellow ochre, and umber.  A couple of the darker browns have a little big of granulation.  The more I handle these, the more I'm reminded of the Meiliang Pigments paints.

Color Mixing:

Mix cleanly for the most part, although some of the mixes are a bit muddy.  Probably can do two color mixes well, probably struggles with three.

Lift Test:

Everything is pretty similar in terms of liftability- not really a great sign

Wet into Wet Test:

While still wet

Colors are really vibrant and fun, blend out into the water easily and readily, blend into other colors easily and readily, seems like there might be some much-needed granulation when dried.

I was tempted to leave it as just a pretty rainbow, but doing the little drip dots tells me a lot about potential optical brighteners, so I did some drips of various colors- both semi-opaque and semi-transparent.  When they dry, I'm going to look and see if they left 'halos' or diffused into the surrounding paint.

When dried:

Colors dry vibrant.  Maybe a LITTLE bit of optical brighteners, but not enough to ruin the palette for me- the two colors that are suspect are esaily7avoided in wet into wet situations.

Compared against Paul Rubens & Meiliang Pigments

These half pans are poured, rather than extruded, making them more similar to the Paul Rubens half pans than to the Meiliang Pigments half pans.  These are squares, but they seem like they contain around a half pan's amount of paint, whereas the Meiliang Pigments 'half pans' are on the small side.  The palette itself is also more reusable- the paints come in pans that can be cleaned out and refilled, the palette itself can hold half pans.  The lid doesn't really snap closed securely, so you might want to hold it shut with a rubberband during travel.

I still can't find a listing for it, and unfortunately, I don't remember what i paid, and I was signed in as a Guest, so I can't pull up my email receipt.  But since I can't find it, it's almost a nonissue- it would be challenging to buy it without a listing.

I found the listing: https://tinyurl.com/emxxjc4k

APPARENTLY, mine was supposed to come with additional packaging (it did not), which makes sense, as Paul Rubens products are generally very nicely packaged.  I paid around 30.99

Pros:

Palette is a cute color

Palette is reusable- can refill the half pans with paint of choice, or use your own half pans

Cons:

Can't find a listing for it, and can't find it on the Shanghai Aowen site- so it's probably not available, which admittedly, puts this review in the Just for Fun, or Watch for Company category

Verdict:

Since I can't seem to find this again on AliExpress, I probably don't need to worry about recommending this palette- it's probably not available anyway.  However, I still really like the Meiliang Pigments set- which IS available, so if you like MOST of what you saw during this review, with a few differences (mainly, palette size and half pan size), I recommend you watch my Meiliang Pigments fieldtest to see if that palette is a good fit for your needs.
