Working in the Comic Mines- Artnerd Newsletter April 24th (Patreon)
Content
Hey Artnerds!
It's been a minute! I've been working on the roughs for Chapter 9 and fighting off spring allergies.
Although it feels bad to not be able to draw a deep breath, it feels good to be working on Kara again, and even just a page of roughs each day adds up quickly. And while roughs aren't the 'fun part', I've been having a lot of fun drawing Kara, Tanner, and co.
While I've been under the weather, I work on Chapter 9 first thing- still in my pajamas, still in bed, watching Youtube. Get that out of the way first, and then I can focus on the rest of the day. I've been picking through the easier pages, saving the more challenging pages for my desktop, when I feel better. But any progress is still progress, and an easy win is still a win.
When you struggle to get anything at all done, keep in mind that any step you take, any progress you make, no matter how small, adds up if you do it regularly. This sounds pat, but it's true and so easy to forget. There are definitely days where you just CANT, I have those days for sure, but most days, there's room for a little can, especially if you can set up a workstation, workbox, or work bag that doesn't have to be disassembled every time you have to stop. Having that workspace set up and ready makes it so much easier to invest that 10 minutes, 1 hour- whatever you have to spare.
What I've Been Working on:
For our Zoom Art Squad earlier this month, we did Optical Illusions! Here's my demo for the class, and I also created a short presentation:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1cQKJRTGzKx8eBtJrGtYqodQw8_8JpagQ371W8gMXm60/edit?usp=sharing
I also finished up the fieldtests for the Paul Rubens Shi Yun and Shi Yun Neo 2.0 granulating watercolors, but I still need to do voice-over for that video.
I finished this watercolor illustration of a little rat and strawberry jam just in time for Easter
I recorded a three in one stashbuster tutorial that demonstrates glazing techniques and different techniques you can use to make it your own. This is another that's waiting until I'm better for a voice over.
For our in person Art Squad, we painted terra cotta pots. Mine are the soot sprite pot (top) and the No Face pot (far left). This was a surprisingly popular activity.
I finally Unboxed and Swatched the Superior Master Level watercolors!
And the lineart for this was kicking around in my portfolio forever, so I finally made time to marker it.
