Hey Artnerds!

What I've been working on:

Arteza Everblend Fieldtest:

Recently, I wrapped up my Arteza Everblend marker fieldtest.  I need to share the lineart with Patrons (I love it, and I think yall will too!), but I just finished exporting it, and need to upload it to Youtube, and then I can share it as early access.

General thoughts:

While these markers are fine, I feel like they're overpriced for the quality (especially compared to Ohuhu and Artify), and there are some concerning quality control issues that make these difficult to recommend over other similar brush tipped alcohol markers.

Kara and Naomi watercolor illo:

This illustration took awhile to paint, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out!  I recorded the process- I just need to find time to do the voiceover and get it out to yall!

O.Win Unbox & Swatch:

I wrapped up a couple of Unbox & Swatch reviews this week- the O.Win palette by Shanghai Aowen Art, and the Superior palette.  I'm looking forward to sharing my findings with yall soon!

The O.Win palette took me by surprise a bit- the paints are more like gansai or cakes than I'm used to from Paul Ruben's parent company.  To be fair, the packaging DID say cakes, but I've gotten very used to not being able to trust the packaging.

Superior Unbox & Swatch:

The Superior palette delivered the same quality of superior chicklet style paint I"m used to, but this form factor is WEIRD, and I"m not sure it's a great fit for me.  Yall will have to decide if it's a good fit for YOU by checking out the Unbox & Swatch!

Schmincke Fieldtest:

25 little watercolor rounds out of the 40 supergranulating colors Schmincke offers (subtracting Random Gray, which I haven't been able to get my hands on).  These were cherry picked as the prettiest or most interesting of the Schmincke supergrans, and some of them are REALLY pretty, but I have to admit, I'm spoiled by the ridiculousness that SuperVision has to offer.

These sort of big fieldtests tend to take awhile to paint, all those little individual watercolor paintings, even when painted in batch, really add up.  This set is really cute though- it's all food themed.

Watercolor Crash Course- Techniques:

After wrapping up the main five videos in Watercolor Crash Course, I realized it would be helpful to have a couple more that focused on specific areas while creating art.    I've got the walkthrough?  tutorial? demo recorded- just need to timelapse it and do some voice over for yall!  Gotta admit, it feels awesome to have a cogent little watercolor series that will hopefully help get people painting!

Watercolor Crash Course- Handling Paints:

This tutorial?  demo?  focuses more on handling the paints and water, and utilizes a DUAL CAMERA SETUP which was a big pain in the butt, but hopefully sheds some light on the actual handling of watercolors.  This one's gonna require more work, as I have to sync up those videos.

7" Kara:

I want to thank yall again for generously sharing your feedback and thoughts on 7" Kara Chapter 9.   Now it's on me to get those corrections going and start painting pages!

Thursday Artsquad:

Last Thursday, we had a packed Squad!  The kids rolled their own sea creatures using a D6 and this sheet my cohost, Sarah, created!  Here's my Antenna, Crab claws, fish torso, seahorse tailled creation!

New Studio Lighting:

We're installing LED track lighting in the studio, so hopefully the videography and photography will improve a bit.

Joseph's done A LOT of research on studio lighting and lighting for art, and once we've got our light setup finished, he's going to share his notes on Patreon, for others who are interested in working on the surface of the sun.
