Hey there, Artnerds!

Its time to redo my Patreon credits, so I wanted to check in and give yall a chance to give me your preferred name or handle!  Please contact me via Discord or email if you'd like me to update your name- I want to make sure I don't miss any changes! If I don't hear back, I'll assume the name given for Patreon is fine.

Just in case, here's a link to my Discord server, The Paintbox!  It exists as a place to hang out, talk about art supplies, and share your art!

Last year, I really tried to take advantage of sales and markdowns to hoard art supplies that I wanted to review or test out.  This year, I'm going to try to drastically reduce how much I'm buying and focus on releasing longer and more in-depth reviews.  I have a bit of a backlog of Easily Influenced videos that I'm parceling out, so I'm looking forward to working on regular watercolor reviews again for a while.

What I've Been Working on:

Selling Your Art Tutorial Video:

In December, I hosted an Art Squad to teach teens how to begin selling their art.  To help me prepare, I created a presentation. I recorded footage of a demo table set up, with loads of explanation, PLUS hit Dollar Tree and Five Below to talk about affordable setup options for a first table.

Yall already received the presentation for this, but the video portion is a big honkin' video that requires a lot of editing, so while I've been working on it steadily, it still has a ways to go before I can share it as early access.  I just wanted to give yall a heads up because we've talked about me working on longer videos with better content.  If this video does well, I may do some follow-ups on preparing for the next level of selling your art.

Shin Han Korean Review:

Starting Paul Ruben's Reviews:

I ordered a BUNCH of Paul Rubens watercolors during Prime Day and Black Friday in 2023 and I am slowly working on getting into them, swatching them, and field testing them.  Amazon accidentally sent me the nicer G4 Paul Rubens half-pan palette rather than the less expensive Qiaomei palette that I'd ordered. This presents a fantastic opportunity for a HEAD TO HEAD COMPARISON!

I like Paul Rubens watercolors a lot and have quite a few of their offerings, so there are a lot of great opportunities for comparisons if there's interest!

Mardi Gras

Comic Pages

Livingston Parish Comic Con:

Louisiana friends!  The Livingston Parish Library Comic Con is on February 24th at the Denham Springs branch, and I'll be there!  Last year, I taught a workshop on making minicomics and enjoyed the best sales I've ever seen at a single-day show.  I received my acceptance email last week, and they're interested in having me teach another drawing class.  I'm trying to pitch something a little different that might appeal to an older audience, but I know Joseph and I will be there selling comics, art prints, and more

I kind of love that wooden palette you used for the ShinHan paints! I think I have seen it around, but I am resisting buying it as I know I would probably just turn it into a dirty mess of watercolour within a week. Reminds me of the Holbein Shin-Gansai palette. Oh god, I love Korean and Japanese artists materials... also Chinese. I love that you look at great Chinese supplies!

Your gut reaction is spot on, while painting I was actively trying to keep it clean! Trying out hard to find watercolor is a lot of fun- I have such a curiosity streak, I feel like I just have to know! I'm glad I can share this interest with you guys!

Me too re the curiosity streak! I buy far too much stuff for my meagre self-employed budget, so I'm so glad I found your Youtube (and now Patreon) so we can kind of "share" the load of trying new stuff out! Also I really like hearing your opinion about stuff I already have because your background is so different from mine!

Now I want to buy paint and eat cake 🙌
