Video Assembly Guide

Introducing my new design centered around Pokémon and creating the perfect storage system for your favorite cards.

Just like my Pokémon Deck Boxes, this will be the first of many version of this design and will expand to include all of your favorite types of Poké Balls.

This design is apart of the Vaults contest on MakerWorld and free to all to access.

Similar to my previous contest entries, even if you do not wish to print, sell, or use this design, it would be greatly appreciated if you could like and download the model.

This only helps me increase exposure to a wider audience, grow our community even larger, and continue to bring great exclusive designs to y'all here.

Features:

Maximum Storage

While my Pokémon Deck Boxes are intended for on-the-go decks of 60 cards, this storage is for your prized cards and extra bulk, being able to hold approximately 8 times as many cards!

This initial release fits on a 180mm x 180mm build plate. An XL version for 256mm x 256mm build plates will be coming soon.

Multiple Storage Options

The latest release now includes two versions and allows you to hold unsleeved, sleeved, or top loaded cards.

Sleeved or Unsleeved

This is intended for your extra bulk, holding just under 500 sleeved and unsleeved cards

Top Loaders

This is intended for your more valuable, long term storage, holding just under 100 cards in top loaders

Secure Drawer with a Functional Push Push Mechanism!

The internal push push mechanism has been carefully developed to keep the drawer secure when closed and unable to accidentally open or spill, but also allowing the internals to be easily accessible as needed.

The mechanism makes interacting with the drawer extremely satisfying, while mainlining simple ease of use.

No Additional Parts Needed!

It was crucial that this design required no parts other than what you can print. There is no need for glue, magnets, or anything else and this box can be assembled right off your print bed.

The push push mechanism relies on an internal 3D printed spring to both keep it secure when closed and ease to open when you choose. After this initial release, I will also be adding the ability to use standard steel springs to ensure longevity.

The 3mf file is set up for easy printing, with all recommended settings preset and each piece of the Card Storage sorted onto the appropriate build plate.

After extensive testing, there have been several changes to print settings and print speeds for various parts in this design. It is HIGHLY recommended to use this file, or at least start here and change based on your own results

The stl file is available for those who would prefer working with that file format.

Recommended Settings listed below.

This will be the basic settings changes needed for a successful print, for more detailed setting changes it is recommended to use the included 3mf file.

Recommended Settings:

Use PETG for the Spring

While PLA will work, it will deform easier over time. PETG resists this deformation much longer.

Wall count increased to 3

Infill reduced to 10% and changed to Cross Hatch

Normal supports on build plate only

This is only needed for the Bottom - Drawer piece

Hey! Do you have any tips Etsy shop so I can buy this?

I like your design. Is there designs for the card storage that looks like the other Pokémon balls and not just the classic red and white?

designs.by.Marcum

Not yet, but just like the Deck Boxes I will be expanding this to include as many Poké Ball variants as I can.

I also want buy this?

Hey, I see you having the same trouble printing this model. The line on the outer wall of the Box where the floor of the box goes over into the walls. Any idea how to fix this? Im also printing with an Bambulab. Its just annoying me :D

designs.by.Marcum

That is one of the most annoying defects and unfortunately there is nothing I've found to fully correct it. It is basically caused by material shrinkage. As the print reaches the large flat layers, those layers take significantly longer to print than the rest of the print, so the material that is already printed shrinks slightly as it cools. Then as the walls are printed above those layers, they are not completely flush with the previous walls. This is similar to the "benchy hull line" problem that has never really been solved. A few settings I have found that help are switching the wall order to outer/inner and also turning off the auxillary fan completely to keep the material warm to reduce shrinking. You could probably produce better results by slowing down all layers to match as well, but that will obviously come with a much longer print time.

hey, the top loader folder on maker world seems just like the same as the spring version

Beatriz Couto

when I download the top loader files from makerworld they are the exact same files from the sleeved/unsleeved model (just changed the names of the files, but the models are the same). I can't seem to find the download for the model that fits less cards and open from the top.

designs.by.Marcum

Oh. I think it just may be a misunderstanding on what the model is. "Top Loader" refers to the rigid plastic protectors that a lot of collectors store Pokémon cards in, not how the box works. Both versions of the Card Storage use the spring and are different sizes since top loaders are larger, and need a larger drawer. I think you are looking for the Pokémon Deck Boxes!

Beatriz Couto

oooh that makes sense, thanks a lot! (I'm kinda new in this tgc world)

Hey Marcum, I printed this (from the maker world files if that makes a difference) and there seems to be just barley not enough space between top of the inner drawer and the top of the actual box casing. It is causing the drawer to sometimes get stuck and not be able to be pushed back enough to trigger the spring lock or open. If I wiggle the top part a little so that its not all the way firmly connected it seems to give it enough room to function properly. For future prints is there any kind of setting or suggestion you have? Would it maybe help to just increase the height or the middle or top box casing to give it that extra room?

I would try again with the files here on Patreon. This was something that people mentioned and I did make the gaps between the drawer and box slightly larger in the latest update. I just haven't updated the files on MakerWorld yet 🤦‍♂️ Also, any kind of warping on the bottom pieces will effect the tolerances as well, so double check those parts to see if there is any.
