It's time to jump back to the beginning! Thank you for all the comments and messages letting me know that it's okay to listen to her music that hasn't been re-recorded yet. Now we can move forward and see her evolution through the years. If I would've ran a poll I'm about 90% sure Reputation would've won haha. Miss Americana gave me a nice insight of her career until those eras but nothing was spoiled. It's so cool that she received a full writer's publishing deal at 14. A young prodigy. It's evident all over this album. I hope you enjoy!! 💙

My First Time Listening to Taylor Swift's Debut Album

Comments

Mirka

Haha I guessed it right 🤣🤩

cassidy

THANK YOU FOR DOING DEBUT. everyone always skips it when this is what made me fall in love with her!! ❤️

V Kim

haha, ive never expected this to be her debut, everyone thought itd be reputation or lover and me either, what a surprise. Anyways, i support whichever decision he makes

RepTVgirly_showgirl

This is PERFECT! you'll have the experience of hearing the old Tay vs how her voice has matured when the rerecords come!!! Also just experiencing it chronologically itches my brain in a good way 🤣

Laurasr618

Omg debut!!! Wasn’t expecting this but def not mad at it lol

Laurasr618

DEBUT IS SO UNDERRATED!!! Mary’s song and I’m only me when I’m with you are bangers

Isabella Peterson

Kinda figured after what we talked about but didn’t want to spoil for the others. So excided for this now. IM SAT

Tyler ✨

I was not expecting this but FUCK IT I’m here for it 🩵💚🦋🦋🦋

Laurasr618

Also Abigail is still her friend ! They were having ice with their wine in the Miss Americana documentary if you remember!

Wil M

Back to the beginning. We love it! 🫶🏽🫶🏽

Jerryy

Was 12 years young when this came out 😭 I’m old

willowswisps

Debut is honestly in my top 6 Taylor albums, I love it so much. I’m way more excited to get debut Taylor’s version than reputation honestly 😂 I just want to hear her updated vocals on this, she sounds so beautiful whenever she sang any debut songs on the eras tour. I can’t wait for people to rec some performances on the eras tour for debut!

malb901

Oh, wow. I wasn't expecting Debut to be next. I'm waiting for Taylor's Version to listen to this one for the first time, so sadly, I have to skip this video. I will be back once she finally releases the rerecording 🤣

Isabella Peterson

While Debut is not my absolute favorite it is an amazing album! Considering the time it came out too and it holds a special place in my heart. I’m honestly really happy you got to hear this before Taylors Version and hear her so young. I can’t wait for the updated version of this though and see what she does with it now! Some info and answering some questions: Abigail is still her best friend, she made an appearance in miss americana and you will see her in the next era aswell. Marys song was inspired by her neighbors love affair and its so beautiful. The ”ill be 87 you’ll be 89” has gotten its double meaning npw with travis jersey nr being 87. Our song was written for her 9th grade talent show and became one of the biggest hits of this album which is just crazy. I love that you now seen that Taylors amazing storytelling has always been there, she has just perfected it more. I didn’t include any eras performances in this document because there are many mashups with other albums but im sure someone will recommend a favorite of theirs. Thank you for the reaction Juke! I was smiling ear to ear watching you hear this for the first time☺️

broccolit0

YAYAYAYAY this is what I was hoping for!!!!

Shanna

Oh we going back! Ok now. Let's get some nostalgia on with the baby Tay vibes. Let's goooooo!

Brandi Smith

Ohhhhhhh, I’m excited for this one 🤗🤗 Thank you for this gem!!! Debut is one of my favorites from Taylor. I am so ready for the TV, but enjoy hearing her baby vocals so much that I’ll be sad when I can no longer listen to the ‘stolen version’ 🥹 Can’t wait to get into this later! Thanks, Danny!! 🫶🫶

Madison

Such a good album! Thanks for a great reaction as always. Hoping Taylor has made it onto the list of who you’ll be a fan of for life ☺️ I hope you collect a vinyl or two along the way!!

Shanna

I was 19 when this came out! 🫣 But this album sure does take you back to those feelings you had back in your high school angsty days!

Tiffany Randolph

I’m sad you went all the way back to this one but I’m excited to finally get another Taylor album react from you

Richard

Nothing beats Debut for me. I am an OG fan. Also, you mentioned Kelly Clarkson and she just released a new single and video for Where have you been. Really great vocals.

Amber

Yay!! I love that we are starting from the beginning!! She already had so much talent in the beginning and now you can see how far she comes!!

Richard

Did you get the reference in Mary's song with the 87 and 89 lyric. Travis's number is 87 and Taylor was born in 89. She manifested Travis when she was a teen. Crazy.

Shanna

You can hear her genre blending even at the very start. She was categorized as country mainly because of her instrumentation use and her initial vocal twang... But you can tell she has inspiration/influences from other genres already in place. But a new artist starting out back then she wasn't given the freedom like she has now to bend the genre rules!

Sara Duarte🇧🇷

Abigail from the prologue (who Taylor says is her best friend), you ask if they are still friends. Well, she is the redhead who appears with Taylor in Miss Americana, they are still best friends :.) And she also appears in the “Picture to Burn” and “Im only me when Im with you” MVs

Isabella Peterson

Oh btw Juke, you mentioned michelle branch! That is so true, also goodbye to you is on my sad bop list forever! Can’t get the Tara and willow break up scene out of my head when i think of it though. Im sure you know what im talking about being a fellow buffy stan

Evgenia

As I only REALLY discovered Taylor after Miss Americana (of course I heard some songs from Red, 1989, Rep), but like really deep dove only 5 years ago, I sometime feel a little sad that I had not done it sooner. We are the same age, so at my 15-16 I would looove those songs to relate to. But it is really difficult to do in my 30s, so Debut is not my immediate favourite sadly. But I still like Our Song and Picture to burn, love this little rocky vibe - hence I adore Speak Now btw, cant wait for you to get to that. I think you can watch live of Our song from the Eras, it is in the official movie, but you can make an exception as you did for Vigilante Shit. As for mashups, I cant honestly recall anyting that was not mashed with songs from albums you have not heard yet.

broccolit0

I KNEW YOUD GIVE MARYS SONG THE FLOWERS IT DESERVES!!! She wrote it about her neighbors growing up in PA??? What if its your grandparents? hahahaha. She dedicated the song in a medley at the Eras Tour to Travis at her 87th show (his number)- randomly she used the number and 89 (1989 reference?) in this song.

madison

i got into taylor more recently and really connected with you’re on your own kid from midnights. after following the eras tour over live streams or instagram for a over a year, the last night of the tour for part of the guitar surprise song set she played “a place in this world” and i haven’t heard it before but it’s the original “you’re on your own kid” and i think it’s so special that at the end of the biggest tour of her life, it can partially be summed up with “i’m just a girl trying to find a place in this world” 🥹🥹🥹

Lindsey T

My favorite songs on this album are Should’ve Said No and Mary’s Song. Also, just curious if you will be doing the filmed concerts after each era you complete going forward (Journey to Fearless, Speak Now Tour, 1989 Tour, and Reputation Tour) before ending with Eras after Lover? I think that would make most sense.

Tiffany Randolph

Ok after watching I’m so glad you went all the way back to debut. I just know you’re gonna be such a LOVER BOI so I was screaming inside at first. Can’t wait to watch the next album react!

RepTVgirly_showgirl

I have to keep leaving the video and coming back bc of life lol but you should totally play Mary's Song for your grandparents! Tell them how it touched you and made you think of their love story! I'd be willing to bet they would enjoy it 🫶🏻

Amanda Thompson

I’m an og swiftie and fell in love the second I heard Tim McGraw, i was 21 & felt this album wholeheartedly (I was pregnant with my highschool sweetheart’s baby but he was a chronic cheater) long story 😂 but I’m a single mom now to my beautiful little swiftie who’s about to graduate! Mary’s song holds a special place for Tayvis stans as it just happens to be the ages 87 and 89 ( his jersey number and the year they were both born, he also has the same birthday as Marjorie! 🤯) so many invisible strings! We lost it when she finally played it for us as a surprise song! Your reaction brought back so much nostalgia and I just fell in love all over again! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Brianna

A place in this world always makes me emotional.. because Taylor certainly has found her place and it’s huge. That was the last guitar song she sang to close out the eras tour and it was so fitting to bring it back to her first album when she was so unsure of what was to come for her 🥹🩷

Holly (Taylor Smith)

Please watch her surprise song mashup of Mary's Song x So High School x Everything Has Changed that she sang when Travis was in attendance at the Eras Tour! The first video is the full mashup and in the second video you can see Travis crying. People suspected it was their anniversary. It was sooo beautiful and sweet! https://youtu.be/yxpjFw--HLc?si=bqrveUMOw9pNV6lX https://youtu.be/OoHfMhwWUe8?si=o10cTX1dpHU-rbFe Also, I LOVE this video of her singing Tim McGraw with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill at the Reputation tour: https://youtu.be/u6gmWl6-jDs?si=A5JhEyagVZ48M472

False Dog

Great choice, Danny! So fun listening with you! I read that she wrote The Outside when she was around 12 years old. She wrote Mary's Song for an elderly neighbor couple. Really, no skips on this album. No wonder it remains a best-seller. Looking forward to watching all the videos, interviews, and Specials with you! Let's Go!

Anj Robinson

I love that you are starting at the beginning now, I think the order is perfect. Great reaction as usual Jukes! Look forward to diving into more of this era with you 🫶🏻

lily

I’m so convinced you’re going to like lover. Glad u listened to debut. Not ashamed to say it’s not my fav album of hers simply because it’s really country and even tho she was already so fucking wise, it’s still, like you said for one song, about “young love”, etc..which is not reaaaaally my thing❤️my fav song is A place in this world :)

Sarah Savala

I was 16 when the album came out. Teardrops on my Guitar is still THAT DAMN SONG for me. I think for album-only tracks Tied Together With a Smile and I'm Only Me When I'm With You are my faves but this whole album is just.... so good. I've been there since the beginning, and I will continue to be there!!!

Liam Mcfarlane

Just a word of warning, this is probably going to get copyright stricken on YouTube - Big Machine were always more aggressive about it than Taylor herself has been with every album since Lover and I can imagine they’ve only gotten worse about it since they only have two albums left to claim from now that the majority of people are leaning into the TVs

Ντιέγκο

Ugh this just reignited my love for Debut and my need for the TV!! Love it

Sarrah Garcia

I saw her perform a place in this world to end the eras tour and it was poetic

Tal

Isabella coming through again! love you!!! thank you!!

Michelle A

Danny, I loved this! Baby Tay was so inspiring and ambitious, she definitely already had the songwriting tools to carry her to super stardom. I don’t know if your friend added this to your spreadsheet, but here’s Taylor singing Our Song as a 33 year old at the Eras tour as a surprise song: https://youtu.be/LuV4rnqDNh0?feature=shared

Larissa🌸🪩

I was 12 when it came out and I was immediately obsessed😂💚 Teardrops on My Guitar, Our Song, Stay Beautiful & Mary's song are all my favs but teardrops was my first fav! This is probably one of my least favorite albums now but I believe it's just due to maturity and growing with her. Great reaction as usual🫶🏻

Madi

Haven’t finished the reaction but you recognising Picture To Burn is so real! Hahahaha did you ever play Band Hero?? It was on that!

April Rosario

I like Debut but not to the point that I listen to the songs repeatedly like the other albums— so this is so refreshing to me! Feels like I’m listening to the album for the first time again & it’s perfect in case Taylor decides to drop the TV of debut first before rep 💜

TiffK83

I hope you do the Mary’s song/ so high school mashup!

Ayana Beau

Once you hear the album fearless it'll be so intersting for you to see journey to fearless. Which features performances from debut and fearless since that was her first headlining tour.

Laurel Meng

I was in middle school when this album came out and these songs meant SO much to me. Songs like Tied Together With a Smile and Place in This World really spoke to me as a young girl. I also used to LOVE Mary's Song because of the beautiful storytelling and how it painted this optimistic picture of what a lifelong love could look like. <3

Stacey

Hard to believe she wrote The Outside when she was 12! She has always been truly brilliant!

Stacey

I didn't get into this album when it first came out. I wasn't really a music lover at the time, I was just having babies and too busy raising them, lol. I really started listening to Taylor around the Rep era, but knew all of her top hits from her early albums. My favorite song on this album is Tied Together With A Smile simply because of things in my life right now that are causing me to just barely hold it together. I've become a die hard Swiftie in the last 5 years and have since gone back and really listened to every song on every album and I just love them all. She has always been talented but to go back and learn all about her........I know why you love her now too. Listening to her music gets me through some not great days, and I just hope she always knows that she is truly a light for so many of us. I think you are going to really love Red when you get to it. And Speak Now she wrote the ENTIRE album alone! Have fun looking up videos and performances of baby Taylor in her debut era. She's come a long way and she was already so good to start.

Caroline

omg so excited to watch!! and so excited for the music videos from this era too!!!

Caroline

ugh shes such a baby here makes me nostalgic! just 16!

hydesbride (Ashley)

Amazing reaction! I love your heartwarming feelings for your grandparents! I'm excited for you to hear Timeless, a vault track from Speak Now TV. My fave debut song is Cold as You. I love the play on words with "I've never been anywhere cold as you" not only meaning she's never behaved as cold as this person, but also she's literally never been to a colder place than them. Winters on her Christmas tree farm couldn't compare to the chill from this person. She's so brilliant!

Tanyalasagna

Been obsessed with this album the past week and a half so I’m happy you did this one!! Mary’s song has always been a favorite 🥰 makes me cry everytime

Ilka van Schalkwyk

Same as you discovered her with Tim McGraw, but have no idea how. It must have been MTV or VH1...didn't know who she was and you couldn't get her album here. I live in South Africa. Came across her again when she performed with Miley at the Grammys and then Fearless international release hit and I bought that CD and been listening ever since. I love Mary's song as well its the story of her neighbours when she was still in Pennsylvania. She played a medley for Travis at the Eras tour and included the part we'd all been waiting for...'I'll be 87 you'll be 89' Travis Jersey number and their year of birth also significant 1989 Taylor's album and Travis' favourite era and album of hers.

Cynthia

Absolutely love this reaction Danny! I grew up listening to country music and still a big fan of the genre. She was a great songwriter even at such a young age. Because she was so young, I feel like this album may be more difficult to re-record and sound similar to the original album. What do you think?

Trey

this album means so so so much to me, i don’t think i can let it go when she releases the TV of it 😭😭😭 i’ve barely been able to let go of Fearless and Speak Now but i may have to hold my ground on this debut… i don’t think it can ever be recreated! i have too high of expectations for the TV, and im sure this has already happened but, i really hope she doesn’t have Jack as a producer on it LOL idk, i just love the production and her voice on this album. it literally takes me back 20 years, being 8 years old, blasting this album with my family in our big red pick up truck lol

Susanne Stien Masters

Her talent and soul was there from the beginning. I LOVE how she takes risks vocally too. What a debut!

Talia Adams

Yes, her and Abigail are still friends (that's the same Abigail that appears in the Miss Americana doc and she also gets a mention on a song on Fearless). Mary's Song has always been a favorite of mine. She actually said she wrote that for her elderly neighbors which is so adorable! And now the song is special all over again because fans have connected it to Travis since his number is 87 and Taylor was born in 89 (Travis too actually but she has the 1989 album lol). Back when we used to burn CDs I had Our Song burned on a CD but it was the only song I had on it so I would pop it in and it would just play over and over again. It well never not feel special and nostalgic when I hear that opening fiddle!

TopTierTaylor

Ask much as you liked Mary's Song you should def listen to Timeless off Speak Now TV / Vault Track

Emma Schultz

I’m SO SO happy you decided to start with her debut (even though it’s not T.V) you chose the right one to choose!!

Emma Schultz

I remember being 5 when this came out, my mom got me the CD and I would dance and sing in my room so loud to Picture to Burn lol

Emma Schultz

Thanks for being my favorite T-Swift reactor!🫶🏼💚

monika

Yesss, Debut! 🥳 This album is so full of bangers, some of which she wrote years before the album actually came out! She wrote Our Song for a 9th grade talent show, that is SO mind blowing to me. My favorites are Mary’s Song (I have seen that others have already recommended you listen to the mashup for Travis☺️), Should’ve Said No and Picture To Burn (suuuuch a banger 🤣). Can’t wait for you to discover more of her in the correct timeline finally 🥳

Tyler ✨

Okay, I finally got around to finishing this reaction and I’m so glad you enjoyed Debut!!! It gets so much unnecessary hate, probably just because some people like to trash country—and this is probably her most “traditionally-sounding” country album. But, like you said, if you consider her age at the time of writing/recording this album, it’s seriously so impressive. This album was HUGE when it came out, especially in country music. And you have to remember that Taylor was competing with some MEGA female country stars at the time (Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert), all of whom were quite a bit older than her. But she held her own and did her thing. 🫶 Also, I’m not sure if anyone mentioned this, but the “I’ll be 87, you’ll be 89” lyric from Mama’s Song is also so cute because Travis’ jersey number is 87. She’s technically 87 in the lyric, but it’s still close enough where it’s a really cute coincidence lol. Can’t wait for you to react to the rest of this era, but I’m especially STOKED for the next 4 eras. 😂🥰

Maggie

Pausing and commenting early. Garth Brooks is the GOAT, and none of you should forget that. 😄 Taylor’s voice has gotten so much better, especially with her live performances. I’m excited to hear Taylor’s version of these songs, even through her baby voice is adorable. Taylor performed a mash up of Everything has Changed and Mary’s Song as a surprise song for Travis at the Eras tour. She was beaming and it was so beautiful. There’s fan footage of him wiping tears away during the song. (His football number is 87 and they were born in 89). One of her many Travis manifestations. She wrote Mary’s song when she was really young after her elderly neighbors came over for dinner and talked about how they first met when they were young children. It’s easy to see why people didn’t believe she wrote her own lyrics. Taylor truly is a savant when it comes to song writing. Liz said in an interview that when she first started writing with Taylor (either 13 or 14 years old), that other writers and artists would ask why she was wasting her time writing with a kid, and she would tell them that when Taylor walked into the writers room she was no longer a kid.

shelby

Valid reaction to Mary’s Song 😂 I hope you watch the music videos from this album!

Brianna Nicole

You're going to love the Travis mashup from Eras (Mary's Song x Everything Has Changed x So High School), it's the sweetest!!! The first Taylor song I heard was Teardrops on My Guitar when I was 10 or 11, and my immediate favorite after listening to the album was Mary's Song

Jacqueline Goon

First listen and it’s so worth the wait! Mary’s Song — 87 (Travis) / 89 (1989TV) 🌹

JoAnn Burrage

Debut is so UNDERRATED!! It is sooo GOOD!!!

JoAnn Burrage

Taylor Swift has always been a genius!! To have her first single be Tim McGraw, which at the time Tim McGraw was one of the biggest country artist and then to sing that song at the 2007 ACM‘s and walk up to Tim McGraw & Faith Hill while singing that song and then once done shook their hands and said Hi I’m Taylor! GIRL had some major cahonas!

ash212

Pausing to comment but you saying that a place in this world sounds like it would be a fun song on the eras tour – she played it on closing night! (In a mashup with New Romantics from 1989) but when you eventually get there, her short speech ahead of it was so emotional as a longtime fan and perfect for the final night of tour to recognize her debut album and her journey as an artist 💚

izzy 🪷

I love that you're dressing according to the era! So cute! 💚

Ashley 💖

Loved Taylor since I first heard Teardrops On My Guitar and Our Song!! Her lyricism just struck a personal chord with me right away. I never knew Tim McGraw was a single by her until years later!! I always thought she had dated him or something cause all the media could ever talk about was who she was dating LOL!! 😅🤣

Toni Marie

The Hills/Laguna Beach reference 😂🤌🏼🤌🏼

Toni Marie

I LOVE ‘Mary’s Song’, and I love your reaction so much! I know that it’s inspired by former neighbors of hers, but in my head, she’s doing a less sad, reverse POV of Tim McGraw’s ‘Don’t Take the Girl’! 😅 Also, Michelle Branch is never a guilty pleasure, she’s a GOAT of the early oughts! Love that you love her! Taylor has a vault track on Fearless that’s SO reminiscent of ‘Goodbye to You’, I can’t wait for you to hear it! Aaand, not to age myself, but debut came out my freshmen year of college and ‘Tim McGraw’ hit me SO deep because of a high school relationship (‘It’s Your Love’, I’m looking at you). And in my angsty moments, I would lay on my dorm room bed and listen to ‘Tied Together With A Smile’ at MAX volume on my Windows 2000 desktop, to the point where my RA would come check on me 😅. Needless to say, I’ve been with her ever since (and she’s gotten me through all the ups and downs of life)! Amazing reaction as always, Danny! We love a man who gets it! 🫶🏼

Renee S Smith

Has he left Debut. Bc Mary's Song x So High School x Everything Has Changed is a must

Dorothy Reames

Thanks Danny! I have hesitated going all the way back to Debut because TS was so young. That was stupid of me. I know better than to underestimate her! I went with you today and enjoyed it so much. I loved Mary’s Song. You’re right…old soul and phenomenal storyteller from the get go! You’re awesome too! One thing for sure…peer pressure has always been and will always be a beast to overcome for all of us. I guess we learn from it but I remember it sucked. They don’t call it pressure without reason.🌸💕🩷💍🏈🔥🧡🖤
