Lady Gaga - "Born This Way" GRAMMYs & Music Video FIRST REACTION

🔥🔥🔥 I love the fact that you didn’t even seem to notice the fact Gaga was wearing prosthetic horns and pointed shoulders for the Grammy performance, which caused a stir at the time! The video is heavy with symbolism, but I’ll do my best to point out some of the major symbols: The pink triangle symbolises LGBTQIA+ rights. The two-headed imagery at the beginning is a nod to Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and transitions. The prosthetic facial protrusions, as well the collab with Zombie Boy (Rick Genest), are about seeing beauty beyond societal norms and conventions. There are major surrealist influences — Gaga mentioned being inspired by the works of Salvador Dalí and Francis Bacon. In a nutshell, Gaga gives birth to an extraterrestrial race (Little Monsters) symbolising a new, accepting society free of judgement — she’s both the mother of, and among, that new humanity — and has to embrace the duality of experience, all of the ups and the downs, the good and the bad.

This really is the perfect month to be discovering this era. Also, we are hours away from the start of #HotJukeSummer! 🎉

Dylan

That was make up for gaga but not for him. His name is Rick Genest a.k.a Zombie Boy and he was mostly known for his tattoos, he was a model and an actor.

The pink triangle speaks of how homosexuals were marked under Hitler’s Nazi regime.. just as the unicorn has long stood as a mythical emblem of the queer soul. Gaga adorns herself with sculpted bones, jutting from her shoulders and face, as if to suggest that the evil we call prejudice is not born within us, but carefully shaped by the world around us. The heads on display echo the words of the Manifesto of Mother Monster: that our births are not finite but infinite. Gaga calls us to unearth our values, question our fears, and reorder our priorities, in search of a humanity that is already perfect, yet struggles to embrace more than just its light.

makes the all Born This Way Era music videos reaction included JUDAS > THE EDGE OF GLORY > YOU & I > MARRY THE NIGHT 🔥

The pink triangle is a symbol representing the resistance against the persecution of LGBTQ+ individuals.

The pod at the beginning of the Grammys performance is the famous "egg" lol. The one she arrived inside to on the red carpet. The outfits were made from latex they bought from a bus company that used latex for the seats haha. She talks about all her iconic looks on a Vogue video.

This was the first time she performed Born This Way, it might of even been the first time people heard the song, don’t quote me on that though - she arrived to the awards show in that egg, even on the carpet & stayed in there until her performance! No one does it like her!

Michael Hardwick

Juke! You gave major spoilers of the list 👀👀🤣 no one pause on that part of the video please!

There are so many symbolisms in this video, and hidden visual details. A beautifully crafted one is when she first mentions the birth of evil, the red dancers- the camera movement upwards reveals that they form a shape of a red skull. Then Rick Genest, who actually had his body tattooed this way for real, and is possibly an inspiration for the song Zombieboy from Mayhem. I have studied this video through the years and looked up as many sources as i could, and watching the Born this way ball tour, which was kind of similar to the Mayhem in the desert/Gagachella in terms of it had lore, revealed that it is about as i would interpret it, a duality inside each and every one of us. There is good and there is evil. And "gaga" in this video, or the character she plays, sees the error of ways in which the evil part, be that oppression, society, government (hence highlighted as the Government Owned Alien Territory) is ruling over people in a dictatorship... and along all of those born alongside her ( the dancers kneeling on the floor when the song starts) starts forming a revolution against the part of the eternal mother that split into two- the one clinging to evil. And the "weapons" to defeat evil are acceptance, kindness, equality (throughout the video these themes are very obvious, the group hug, same dna etc). And those things set her apart so much that in the end she decides to go her way, and i also interpret there are two sides of her seen in the end, the fierce one who decides to stand for what she believes in, riding a unicorn into the city (nod to the song Highway unicorn) and the other part, that was who she was before, watching her go, crying whether that be in regret/disappointment or just sadness because that part is the polar opposite and doesn't understand/approve of the things the liberated one stands for. Oh also the triangle's positions are very important, the upward triangle represents dominance, masculinity generally, as the letter A is shaped, pointing up. The inverted one, looking more like V represents femininity, gentleness, but i think one of the messages of this era is, as the upside down triangle was mostly used, that there is great power in what people treat as "weak" or "sensitive" / "gentle" so to me the purple V shaped triangle represents that even if a minority is considered weak, it carries great power, in this case successfully overthrows their oppressor, because of being overlooked and underestimated. All in all could go into even more details, but i think this was enough for now lol i have shared my interpretation, which i think is what art is meant to provoke in an individual, gaga did not explicitly confirm or deny any of these "theories" you could say, but these made the most sense to me.

Do me a favor and go find a YouTube tutorial for that dance move you can't figure out lol because I can't either and I need you to come back and teach us ♥️

New Patreon member here! Loved watching your reactions after I stumbled onto them on YouTube. Also love that you are starting your Gaga journey only now because I am the same. Do I qualify as a little monster if it’s only been 3 months?maybe a baby monster lol Idk what I was thinking in 2009 but she was not on my radar at all (was going through my punk/metal era. Which is funny because she is one of the most punk acts still out there 😂). Love your channel and can’t wait to deep dive through more Gaga content with you. And she has A LOT of content so buckle up
