I can honestly say that my eldest daughter encapsulates the trials and tribulations of having the “eldest day” role in life and the mentality that goes with it, but is also satirical in perfect alignment with the inner turmoil eldest daughter’s have expressing their own struggles because they are so used to caring for everyone else that when they care for themselves it feels wrong. You feel innately selfish and like a burden for expressing your problems or fears so you cover it with humor in an attempt to downplay the reality of how much you’re actually struggling. I think it's one of those songs you can't really understand unless you've lived it, and if you've lived it it's a punch in the gut. Even explaining it sounds so dramatic ugh -a take from an eldest daughter, sorry it got tangential

TFOO to me is about the media making her out to be boy and love crazy and she has had to fight back and talk about it when she shouldn’t have to. Elizabeth Taylor was the ultimate showgirl and her life behind the curtain was actually very sad and this is deep. This album is about life behind the curtain of a showgirl and she is comparing herself to her. Opalite is man made and she wrote this about Travis for sure cause of his birthstone and said love is man made and love is what they make it. Father Figure is definitely about Scott Borchetta or any man that is part of that patriarchy that mansplains or uses being a man as an excuse to be in power. And it’s her being right all along. Eldest Daughter was confusing to me after the first listen. And maybe it’s cause I’m the baby in my family. Maybe it’s about looking out for someone coming up in the industry or a sibling to make sure they don’t get hurt like they did. Save them from the same hurt. She also has said she never pictured her wedding or a marriage until she was in that point in life. Ruin The Friendship to me is about what you could have done in the past or like past life reflection or contemplation on your relationship history. It gave me betty storytelling vibes. Actually Romantic is rumored to be about Charli XCX and/or Matt Healy. Cause they keep talking about her but Charli opened for Taylor on the Rep tour so it’s like she gave Charli a big audience to be heard and it’s kinda a surprise she has said these things about her. Wi$h Li$t is definitely a simple song and just wants her man. It does remind me of Glitch too. Wood is 👀👀👀 definitely about Travis with that Jackson 5 sample instantly. I loved it after first listen 😭🤣 she is being very cheeky and unapologetic Tay Tay. CANCELLED! is about I feel like she doesn’t care about who we think is cancelled and that she should distance herself from that person but we don’t know the real them and their friendship dynamics. Honey is super cute and I feel underrated by Swifties right now. TLOASG is literally the Jo Bros Cool. It’s cute storytelling and would be a great like short film or music video. Sabrina’s vocals were fire. It literally encompassed what the album is supposed to be. Like this showgirl lifestyle is not all glitz and glamour. And we are not always privy to what’s going on behind the curtain. As a whole the metaphor of this album is we know Taylor Swift the showgirl but we don’t know Taylor Swift the person and she just pulled the curtain back and showed us more about her positivity in her relationship then she ever has before! She has never been this open about her happiness in a relationship before. She always wrote about loving things from other relationships but they always had some sadness or ominous tones surrounding it. This Tay Tay happy. I think a lot of people are not happy about this album cause they are used to her writing the most heartbreaking, soul crushing songs. She is finally happy in her life and her life is full of soooo many happy things and this is what she was asked many years ago. “What if you were happy? What would you write about!?” We are here now and we have to accept that Tay Tay is gonna be this way. I give this album after 12+ hours a 8/10. It could have been a bit deeper lyrically it’s just felt surface level for some songs but overall it’s a beautiful album.

Great album reaction, Danny. I loved the entire collection, although I have to admit I am still blushing from Wood. The songs that stood out more to me were the first five and the final. My daughter competed in dance in Vegas and we have photos with showgirls there (I stood at their shoulders on tippy-toes). The emotions felt standing beside them in stupefied awe of their beauty, grace, and elaborate costumes all came back when listening to Life of a Showgirl. I’ve wondered over the years about how their lives evolved when the shows and camera flashes ended. Loved also references to Elizabeth Taylor, her beautiful violet eyes, her famous perfume White Diamonds, thinking of the Reputation reference to her in Ready for It? (Burton to this Taylor), and remembering her performances from Cat On A Hot Tin Roof to the perfume ad where she places an ante of diamonds in a poker game, and more profoundly her humanitarian work. Taylor is a quiet savage as she enters into her next phase, in love and unapologetically keeping it real even if that’s not what some people may expect in her music. 🧡🔥🧡🔥🧡

Noooo justice for CANCELLED! I loooved this song! Actually, regarding the language - I think up until folkore Taylor did not really cuss in her songs, so you will not find this in earlier albums. Just got back from the theater and immediately watched the reaction til the end. The music video is amazing, and they way she creates, thinks and works is fascinating to watch!

I was so worried about your reaction to “Wood”. She’s in her pre-wedding phase and she’s telling everyone about it. They all laughed at her because she couldn’t keep a man (“Blank Space”). So she is finally happy and proud of her future and career. “Actually Romantic” just made the kill shot to Charli XCX. Taylor said she doesn’t start shit but she knows how it’s going to end. She ended it. There’s not a darn thing Charli can say about Taylor anymore. Haha. 🤣 Now if someone types in “Taylor Swift Cancelled”, “CANCELLED!!!” will automatically pop up vs any old drama that Taylor is over with. The coup de grâce was naming it “The Life of a Showgirl”. When people start to type in to look for Kanye’s “The Life of Pablo”, Taylor’s TLOAS is going to come up first. LOL. 😂 Taylor is always a few steps ahead. “Ruin the Friendship” was so sad. Taylor sang “Forever Winter at his memorial and sang it one day later, in his honor, and never sang it again. He was one of her best friends and she’d play him all of her music first. How sad that she still carries that pain in her huge heart. 💔 I hope she’s feeling much better now. TTPD had to get out of her head so she could be more comfortable in her own skin again. It worked!! The ending of the album is the ending of the Era’s concert. Considering that this album was made during Era’s, it’s only fitting for them to end the same. Loved this!!! Thank you! The important line is where Taylor says she’s immortal now … irreplaceable. I saw the release party movie today and she explains why she asked Sabrina to be on the track. Don't worry Danny the barbz are okay with Tay usually, her and Nicki have a strange industry friendship (I think Tay knows to be on her good side LOL). But Charli is really disappointing, Taylor invited her to open the Rep tour and Charli has just shit all over her since then, saying in interviews she hated opening for the tour "performing for kids" and a bunch of other rumored weird stuff.

My first listen through, I listened to the version that had voice notes from her in front of every song. I feel like once you know what’s going on with the song you can appreciate it better. A lot of songs of hers that I used to not like or skip, once I learned a little bit more about them, heard her explain them on long pond, etc., it made a huge difference to me and made the song more relatable. So I listened to the voice notes before each song on showgirl, and I think that elevated my experience of it. I think there are a lot of people who had an expectation in their head of what this album was going to be. And when it didn’t meet their expectation, they lashed out. A lot of people wanted a rock album. They expected a rock album, and in their head that’s what they were gonna get. They wanted another 1989. They wanted another reputation. And then we got this absolute delight. That’s got a retro sound with a modern voice and I think people who are just hating on it, well, let’s just say, that what you say about other people says more about you than it does about them. I think it’s a fantastic album. I love every song on it.

Eep sorry it took so long to comment on your reaction! I've been absorbing the album myself hehe but of course you are so much fun to experience stuff with, and I love that you appreciate happy Taylor! You're going to love the happy songs on Reputation and Lover too when you get there! 🖤💗 First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR MOM!!! She must be a hell of a lady cause she raised a wonderful son who respects women and looks at the world through intelligent, empathetic eyes! I hope you had a blast celebrating her day! 🥳 It's funny that three of my fave tracks are the ones you didn't add 🤣 I am the youngest child. I have a brother who is much older than me (15 1/2 years) , but I think the thing that gets me about Eldest Daughter is the way she tells us that the world is cold and harsh and it made her give up her softness and her childhood dreams of the simple things in life. I relate to that completely. It's hard to admit that having been hurt so many times, I've given up on the idea of finding love and marriage. Things I always wanted as a girl. But in this song it's just so beautiful that Taylor DID find that. The BRIDGE. Holy hell it makes me tear up EVERY TIME. Recapturing the innocence of youth. You and I were just talking about this with All Too Well. The way she sang "I'd like to be my old self again, but I'm still trying to find it" how life hurt her and she lost that innocence. Well, of course she's not going to ever be her old self, but it's amazing to think that she found the innocence again in this way! No longer having to lie about not wanting marriage and family and the little things. Gah! Oh and the "I'm not a bad bitch" reminds me of White Horse "I'm not your princess". But this time instead of giving up a dream, she's giving up the cruelty of the world (as much of it as possible anyway) and living a dream come true. Omg see I'm going on...lol also the "first lamb to the slaughter so we all dressed up as wolves" line is brilliant signifying the way we feel like we have to harden ourselves when people/the world hurt us, but of course it's a disguise. 😭 I definitely think you'll love Cancelled! even more once you go through the Reputation era! Obviously I'm not famous, but I've had shitty friends cut me out for unjust reasons, and it definitely taught me who my real friends are. The "they're the ones with matching scars" line is so accurate and heartbreaking! And oh man what a sick beat! I totally get your feeling on Ruin the Friendship. It definitely is sad (so of course one of my faves lol). I was shocked at the turn it took, but gah so freaking gorgeous and poinient. Having experienced the loss of many loved ones, including a friend in August, it's so important to tell the people in our lives how we feel, even when it's a risk. I love the message Taylor sends here! Elizabeth Taylor is epic. The BEAT is insane at the chorus! And it's pure poetry the way she incorporated Elizabeth's famous violet eyes by implying her tears would turn them violet! Also she mentions white diamonds, which was Liz's perfume! And Liz spent a lot of time in Portofino, Italy. I think Richard Burton proposed to her there too. 🤩 Another fave is The Fate of Ophelia! What a perfect opening track and lead single! And your reaction to Wood was adorable! You gave me a good giggle hehe 🤭 it's funny that you mentioned Nicki at first with Actually Romantic cause I saw her post a bunch of glowing praise for Taylor, especially the song Wood 🤣 bahaha but I love the way you support Taylor while discussing Actually Romantic and Father Figure. Happy birthday to mama Juke ❤️ took three days to really sit with this album and enjoy it before tuning into your reaction, I love the album and the chamber noise that is twitter won't affect it. Cause just last year they complained about how she's trying to hard or "what is she even saying" when she gave them harder lyricism on The Tortured Poets Department but now they're complaining about how simple the writing is on here but misunderstanding one of the simplest lyrics (her wanting a lot of kids with Travis aka "a whole block looking like you"). Ruin the Friendship is definitely my favorite song on the album, I went into it expecting a spicy little number but tears dripped down my eyes instead of thighs 😉​

My first thought when listening to this album for the first time was OMG I absolutely cannot wait to watch your reaction video… and it was everything I hoped and more! Such an incredible album that just keeps getting better with each listen. Her ability to craft music that feels joyful and effortless…something you can dance to and sing along with.. while still carrying layers of depth and meaning.. blows my mind every single time.
