We're having a big week for album reactions and I'm not stopping yet! A legend of the 2000s, Hilary Duff, is back after a 10 year break from music with her new album "luck or something..." As a Lizzie McGuire fan, I had to check it out for myself lol. Let me know your favorite tracks and help me break them down. Thank you for being here, supporting the channel and allowing me to give attention to so many different artists. Love you. Hope you enjoy!

The Optimist made me fuckin BAWL the first time I heard it. Eldest daughter with a very complicated relationship with my father after he and my mom divorced when I was 7 (28 years ago.....ugh time is fake). All my fellow daddy issues girlies riiiiiiiiise up. TT_TT

This is so random, but have you ever listened to Alkaline Trio? One of the lead singers from that band (Matt Skiba) was the other singer with Mark on two Blink albums, California and NINE. They’re one of my all time favorite bands. I was your typical early 2000s emo kid. I really loved this album from Hillary. I don’t know if it’s because I’m the same age as her and grew up in the same time, but I related to a lot of it. I ordered one of the limited edition vinyls and I’m very excited about it.

Also, the lady that will come into your life and make it the most amazing thing full of love ever? (WE ARE MANIFESTING TRUE LOVE FOR JUKE IN 2026) She'll be the luckiest woman in the world to have you.

This album is such a therapeutic listening experience & conversation starter for those of us who grew up with her. I knew The Optimist would get you haha—I can't listen to it without crying! My father passed when I was 13, but he was also a very complicated man, so I relate the most to that song. I knew you'd identify with a lot of this album lyrically, which is why I was so adamant about you listening to it. Again, thank you for being so vulnerable! At this point, I think the only thing bigger than your heart is your biceps (sorry not sorry, I had to). ❤️🤣 I love that she credited Taylor for changing the game lyrically for pop stars. She said that she wouldn't have been able to make this album as raw if it were not for her husband being her producer, and the safe space he provided for her. Future Tripping, The Optimist, and Mature are my current top three.

Thanks for reacting to this. You should definitely dive into her discography. She has many great songs for you to check out!

Do you think you’d do a deep dive of her discography?

Just read Hilary was 16 when Joel Madden started dating her whilst he was 25. I remember them together all over media when I was a teen having no idea the age difference. How was that ever accepted?!

I usually don’t comment just support by watching but you talking about your family compelled me to hopefully send you some love and light. The situation is definitely not the same. My older siblings have a different dad and my sister that’s closest in age is 15 years older than me. I’m the baby as well. I’m also adopted lol so I got a whole different generation and I’m completely different genetically LOL. But my oldest niece is 18 months younger than me and we grew up like siblings. Her dad (my oldest brother) & his wife stepped out of our family for 12 years. It was extremely painful for everyone involved. I feel like it’s not talked about enough but I really feel like the youngest sibling is the healer, the bridge between everyone, & the person that breaks the generational trauma first. I helped bring my family together and my nieces and nephews come to me and I am the bridge between them and their parents (my siblings.) My mom always jokes I should be a therapist. BUT ANYWAYS, all of this to say. I see you, I hear you, & I hope you know it gets better. Whether that’s everyone comes together or you find a new way forward without being connected. You’re doing your best & it’s not your job to heal these grown ass adults. They have to choose it and when they’re ready I’m sure you’ll be there! Anyways, sending you love, good vibes, healing vibes and energy for your family, & many many good days ahead. 🩷

Wow! I know that for a lot of people Hillary represents nostalgia and a big part of their lives. In my case, I watched the show when I was very little so I don't really remember much. The movie, though...... So good :) This album surprised me and I love that she didn't go the easy way and tried to make something that would be trendy in 2026. It feels very honest and it sounds amazing :) I'm officially a fan after this and will listen to her other projects. I've only listened to the previous album and remember loving it

It took me way too long to finally make it over to this corner, but I’ve been so excited to see your reaction to this! I preordered multiple variants of this album just knowing it was going to be something special, and it did not disappoint. I’ve listened to it regularly since, and it just gets better with time! This album is so relatable and piercing but thankfully has just the right amount of playfulness and nostalgia in the production that I don’t need to spend all day in the therapists office! To this day, I can’t even get my friends (fellow millennial girlies) to listen to this, so it was wonderful to hear someone else talk about it and relate to it. Roommates is one of my top three favorite songs, and will probably be a standout for the year! (Even though it’s so painfully relatable). I’m obsessed with how she conveyed the physical neglect, and not just emotional, and that she didn’t second guess a single thing she put in this song because my girl was specific. Roommates is very Tolerate It coded🤌🏼 Future Tripping is another top three! I love the phrase “future tripping” and I never knew singing about anxiety (something I know far too much about) would be so much fun! (And I love a song that can give me a 👏🏼👏🏼 moment.) The Optimist should some with a trigger warning for us daddy issues folk! The fact that each chorus is different and she manages to hit you with something else, each time… woof. I thought the wedding day line was painful, but I think the second chorus/the line about the shame and wanting those daily phone calls was when I needed to take a lap (or a leap😅)! Adult Size Medium is my favorite on the album (and made its way into my all time hall of fame)! I wanted to be so upset that you didn’t love it, but it makes sense, because it’s definitely one of those that’s “for the girlies that get it!” I feel like if you’re not a woman in your mid 30s or older, it’s hard to appreciate. I’m sure it’s just a perfect metaphor, but because I tend to take things quite literal, to me, it’s like she just found a relic (a medium sized sweatshirt, in my head) from her early twenties and is reliving “the glory days” of her youth but also having an out of body kind of experience while doing so. Disassociating the who you were with the who you are now: “Is my reflection someone else's I stole? But if it's mine can I still keep it, if I can't see me in it?” (chills). And then, the aging part of it too… “Now on the other side of cherry-flavored ChapStick, There's some greyish highlights. Reminding me that nobody runs faster than time. It's heartbreaking and reassuring.” WOOF. (This song really makes me long for MySpace or MSNMessenger days). And, I know it feels like a bunch of words, but if you were a teenage-early twenties girl in the mid ‘00s, I swear every word makes sense and brings back a specific memory! (I am curious if it’s grown on you more after your first listen?!) “You’re like a mother to so many of us.” Shots fired 😂😭 Lastly, I feel like I’ve commented on this a cringeworthy amount of times, but your willingness to be so open and vulnerable with your emotions and your ability to talk about such hard topics is incredible and inspiring. Sending love to you, your mama, sister, and niece! Sounds like they lucked out getting such a good one out of a rotten bunch, when it came to you! 🖤
