There is a big lore behind this collaboration. When 7 rings mv came out, 2 Chainz said Ariana copied his pink trap house aesthetic from one of his old music videos and a bit of his flow from his song Spend it. Then other artists (princessnokia and soulja boy) hopped on the band wagon and tried to claim that Ariana copied their flow (which she clearly did not her flow was inspired by ALL generic rap flows). Once this happened and Ariana got backlash, Scooter 🤢 did arrange a meeting between Ariana and 2 Chainz, and she told him that yes the mv was inspired by his trap house (which was obvious to many rap fans because it is iconic however there isn’t anything wrong with being inspired by something) and that she was a huge fan of his which is why she took inspo, but the flow was just inspired by lots of rappers. They came to the conclusion that they would feature on eachothers songs because 2 Chainz didn’t want to diss Ariana publicly and be petty (these are his own words from an interview he did explaining the outcome of the situation), especially since as we know the credits for 7 rings - 90% of the royalties goes to Rodger’s and Hammerstein for the sound of music interpolation at the beginning of 7 rings (breakfast at Tiffany’s and bottles of bubbles… etc), which means Ariana and the 7 other songwriters (Victoria, Tommy, Tayla etc..) only get 10% of royalties from the song. I’m sure you know this because Ari and Victoria sang about it in Monopoly 😂 Thus, 2 Chainz hopped on a remix of 7 rings (it’s awful I’m sorry his verse added nothing but he was credited here), and Ariana did Rule the World with him (for free- she did not make a cent from this song which 2 Chainz confirmed in an interview) which went on to become the most streamed song from his album. I think album credits in general aren’t handled well by many musicians teams but what was nice about this situation is that they actually met and came up with a solution that works well for 2 Chainz. Ariana always credits whoever she is inspired by, I mean giving away 90% of this song alone shows how much she cares about crediting her influences so I’m glad we got an rnb track out of this!
