Non-binary icon covering another non-binary icon and we love to see it!!! I get where you're coming from with the advice about not letting fear affect relationships, but trauma is so insidious in that way and it's not always easy to break a cycle. I've definitely had to work a lot with my therapist to try and be open to new connections after breaking up with my boyfriend of 6 years 13 months ago, and even back when I had started dating him I was still unpacking the trauma of the ex before him (she was constantly ghosting me and I eventually found out for most of the time we dated she was cheating on me, and I found out from the other person) and thankfully he understood why I was acting like that and exercised patience. My parents divorced when I was 7 and it did a huge number on me in terms of attachment. And even with this most recent ex it wasn't even anything particularly bad-bad he was just coping poorly with his own sudden trauma and toxic family and we both agreed that he wouldn't take me down with him while drowning, and now we don't even talk anymore because that's how bad it got for him. but even before the sudden trauma the relationship had been on its death bed anyway and trying to revive it was futile and somehow my heart knew that in 2024 and that's why I was relating WAY TOO MUCH to both The Tortured Poets Department and eternal sunshine despite still being with him at the time those albums came out (at least "on paper") and..... yeah. this comment is turning into a great wall o' text so. um. yeah. that is that. ^_^;;
