HOLD ON LEMME GET MY SNACKS

marie

every time i watch this show it feels like my first time watching it <3! as for society being more accepting of lesbians, as a gay woman, i experienced more homophobia from kids in my school than the gay guy in my school. girls were scared to be alone with me and boys would tell me they could “fix” or “change me. i think girls are homophobic towards men in the sense that they get caught up in the whole “gay best friend” idea which makes a lot of men feel like a “novelty”instead of being able to just be and men are homophobic towards them by treating them like they aren’t “real men” just because they love men. i feel like there’s been a huge disconnect lately between the lgbtq+ community between gays, lesbians, and bisexuals about who has it worse and i feel like it depends where you grow up, how you grow up, etc and that it’s typically pretty even! at least from my experience! loved this video and i’m so excited for you to watch “red, white & royal blue”! i own every copy of the book so it’s definitely one i’m looking forward to see from you! glad you took the time to relax this last week and i’m glad you’re back!

I'm glad you had a relaxing, well-deserved break Danny! I'm really enjoying your Heartstopper reactions, and happy Pride month!!!

I don't think I've ever related to a character as much as I related to Nick Nelson. This show became a safe place for me because I never had a group of friends like Charlie's. I was always stuck with people like Harry, and I changed everything about myself just to fit in. For most of my teenage years, I felt dead inside because I wouldn't let my real personality show. I even lost or got into relationships because of outside pressure. It's simple to say that anyone who doesn't accept you for who you truly are doesn't deserve to be in your life, but actually realizing that is much harder. As I started coming out as bisexual to some friends, I realized who deserved to be there and who didn't. I'll be forever grateful for this series for helping me through it.

Danny, you thought Enrique Iglesias was hot… because Enrique Iglesias is hot. Very simple. Happy to answer your question for you! 😂 Given that you don’t know where the characters are headed yet, I appreciate how patient you’re being with Tao, Ben, and Harry before drawing conclusions. Like you said, they are literal teenagers! We all had to learn those lessons at that age. I never had a boyfriend in high school, but I identified so strongly with Charlie apologizing to Nick when he did nothing wrong. It reminds me of how much I struggled as a teen to stop feeling like I had to apologize for being gay. Social conditioning is a nightmare. I eventually made it to the other side, but there are still days where it gets to me a little (especially with what’s going on politically). You just recently told me that you love how unapologetic I am (especially with my thirsty comments 🤣)—it’s precisely because of that arduous journey! This is already shaping up to be a lovely Pride Month on Juke Jams! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️❤️

Agree, this has a banger soundtrack of great tunes... so does the new Amazon Prime show 'Off Campus'. You should think about reviewing that one, it's Hetero, with US college hockey setting :)

Seeing Charlie saying sorry and apologizing all the time honestly breaks my heart. It's one of the many traits of his that I relate to. I see a lot of myself in him,his story means so much to me. In my own life, I've been trying to stop apologizing when I haven't actually done anything wrong, but it's harder than it sounds. Sometimes "sorry" just slips out automatically, and then people look at me like, "Why are you apologizing?" when nothing was my fault in the first place. 😂😅 And yeah, Heartstopper has such a good soundtrack. I've discovered so many amazing songs, a lot of them ended up in my playlist on my phone. Every season introduced me to new artists and songs,I can't wait for the movie and see what songs will be in it 😍😍😍😍

tara and darcy kissing made nick so happy bc there’s nothing better at that age than representation!! i wish i had that kind of things growing up but it makes me so happy to watch that scene

even tho we all thought that tal was a bit over dramatic when we first watched it we should remember that they are 15yo kids! they’re discovering life and emotions that they don’t know how to handle. i think this is a wonderful show to watch for pre-teens and teens to help them understand life a bit more!

The next show you need to watch is Noah’s Arc…👀 Groundbreaking intersectionality on that show.

Heartstopper is the type of show that makes you think deeply and at times helps people with themselves or others. I know that the story of Charlie and Nick are important and I like the way they handle their relationship with themselves and each other even for being early teenagers. I always find myself smiling and saying how cute they are. Sometimes when they are having deep conversations I catch myself crying (mostly happy tears). I think all the teens are trying to navigate their feelings the best they can (the characters that aren’t plainly rude). Everything is new and it's hard to navigate, but they try the best they can and it's my hope they start to figure it out and progress more. The soundtrack goes so well with the scenes and makes you feel the emotions deeper and that is what I love about the show.

Love it! When you talk about things and especially about people feelings and how they act and why this and why that I love it! It brings me joy to hear people be so aware of things and so empathic. It shows wisdom ! Keep it 100 on the land the sea the sky 💯 PS: I’ve cried SO much watching this series! I swear for EVERY episode. And also nicks mom also plays the middle age Queen Elizabeth the II on the crown. She is SO talented. Love her as well.

Loving watching this show again with you. It’s a very special series. Wanted to tell you that William Gao (who plays Tao) is also a talented musician and has a band with his sister called Wasia Project. Their music is beautiful.

As a person that loves love and I don’t love a certain gender this show would have been soo instrumental for me in high school. I’m 34 now and have been married to a man but has dated women too shows like this would have been sooo helpful for me. I wish it was around for me but so grateful others get to experience it and can feel their feelings are validated and they are simply enough for this world and are accepted as they are! I know this world is still not truly accepting of any one in the LTGBQ+ community but this show gives a voice to those in need! Everyone needs and deserves love in any way possible. 💜💜💜

Thank you so much for this reaction. Being an older gay man (36) this show really warmed my heart with how much progress has been made in our society, even when it seems like we’ve gone backwards most days. My husband and I got together 18 years ago and when we watched this show we immediately identified myself as the Charlie and him as the Nick and it brought us back to those early days. So much love to the young people of today.

The scene early on when Nick is at the picnic table at school kind of zoning out, clearly grappling with his realization is so real and such a great portrayal by Kit. Even if you realize you're not straight and all of your family/friends are great and there is no problem with coming out, it can still be a huge shift in how you think about your life. I used to just assume I would grow up and find a husband and have kids because that's what adulthood is portrayed as with pretty much everyone I knew and all the media I consumed. Realizing that I was aroace and that wasn't something I wanted wasn't necessarily difficult for me to accept as an identity, but the loss of that planned path with no obvious direction for my adult life is something I've been struggling with for years now. What life milestones are ahead, if I'm not going to meet someone, get engaged, get married, and have kids? How will my current friendships change as they all take that path and I don't? Can I fault them for drifting apart as we have less and less in common? Obviously plenty of lgbtq+ people do want to get married etc. etc. so my specific experience isn't as relevant to them (or to Nick/Charlie, as this is a love story lol), but similar in how the moment when you realize that maybe life isn't going to be the way you imagined can be very disorienting.

the scene with tara and darcy at the party making nick feel so happy and inspired is honestly one of favorite scenes of the whole show it’s such a beautiful moment with the colors and the song playing it’s absolutely perfect! Representation is so important and this show makes me feel so seen! I came out as bisexual right after high school about ten years ago I wish I could have watched this back then but it’s so healing to me now. I’ve watched it so many times and every time it still has me completely giddy kicking my feet and smiling the whole time! I love hearing all your thoughts and watching it along with you, I think you’re personality really does feel like you’re everyone’s best friend it feels like a warm hug just like this show 🥰🤍

I’m watching this late so I don’t think you’ll see this, but you’ve touched on it a couple times by saying something along the lines of lesbians not facing as much oppressions and backlash for being open than men. As a lesbian I want to say I disagree. Even like you said men can be “accepting” but 9 times out 10 that’s out of a sexist sick sexual fantasy way which is inherently homophobic. I’ve received countless “I can change you.” “It’s only a phase” “you’re only young” or “can I join” when I’ve kissed my girlfriend. And I’m sure gay men receive their own versions of this along with other queer people. It’s no competition who faces more oppression and backlash than the other but it doesn’t feel right to compare the homophobia between lesbians and gay men as both in their own ways have always been discriminated against. And with the way society is going at the minute, that’s not changing any time soon. Another point I’d love to make! While shows like this and HR are incredible for the community, I always have a little twinge in my heart when shows like these blow up because it’s so rare for a lesbian centred film or show to ever amount to the fame of something like HR and I fear that’s also rooted in misogyny and sexism. Purity culture, some religions and just some straight people (unfortunately I see mostly straight women) can not fathom something that is not centred around a man receiving the love or attention. AND when something finally does somewhat popular it 9 times out of 10 still includes a man, whether that’s through crazy ex bf or mid life crisis married woman realises she’s in love with her bsf. It’s constantly infuriating to battle both sexism and homophobia at the same time. And for others unfortunately also racism ( I am white )
