You hit the nail on the head with the importance of having serious conversations in person. Even commenting here, I worry a lot about what I say being taken the wrong way or nuance being lost. May Nick & Charlie’s healthy communication skills bless us all! I appreciate you recognizing the beauty of Nick’s mother accepting him, while still understanding that coming out to loved ones doesn’t always end well. There are horror stories out there, but this show serves as a light at the end of the tunnel. I will tell you, from personal experience, that having no clue how your family members will react is one of the most terrifying feelings a human can experience. The uncertainty can be just as agonizing as knowing it won’t go well. So many lives have been lost over these matters. This is why it’s imperative that we instill acceptance in the youth. We all deserve to exist. We all deserve to matter. We all deserve to love and be loved. Seasons 2 & 3 are absolute masterpieces that I can’t wait for you to experience. 💙 (and of course I’ll never shut up about how ready I am for you to watch Red, White & Royal Blue 😉)

I relate so much to what you said about maybe not being able to get over someone, but hoping to get past them. I feel bad that you're going through that because I feel the same way, and I know how much it can hurt. It's a heavy feeling when someone can still have a place in your heart even when you know things won't be the way you once hoped. i LOVE tori. she is the main character in Alice's first novel (Solitaire), which is set after heartstopper. it mentions nick and charlie in it, and I believe Alice decided to go back and flesh out their story after publishing it, which then became heartstopper. Tori also becomes a bigger character in the next 2 seasons - the actress is delightful on screen and plays her so well :)

Oh yeah, the fact that Alice Oseman writes every single episode herself is honestly insane,she must be under so much pressure all the time, juggling the books, the scripts for the tv show and movie, and making sure everything stays true to the story. 😅😂 The amount of work and passion she and everyone else on the team puts into Heartstopper is genuinely incredible, Heartstopper is very special to a lot of people 🥹🥹🥹🥹

I don’t see people talking about it much, but Harry using the f slur against Charlie was (unknowingly) against Nick too. So yes he was absolutely defending Charlie, but he was also defending himself.

I have rewatched this show a gazillion times and never picked up on your analogy of Charlie sitting on the tree roots in the art room, that was such a beautiful interpretation and you absolutely hit the nail on the head. Just another reason why I’m so glad you’re reacting to these shows because maybe you will pick up on things we didn’t and we can see a scene we love so much in a completely different light. For season 2 the show has a whole new kinda vibe and I wonder if like me you’ll pick up on the differences in how it’s shot. It’s so much brighter and it definitely matures with the characters. As you move on into the next two season we get to delve into some much heavier storylines that you probably won’t expect which deal with things beyond queer experiences. Honestly the last scene of season 2 and the 4th episode of season 3 will break you. I’m so excited for your continuation of this series and also red white and royal blue as it’s one of my favourites. Finally just know that we too are here for you and you have a million friends here in the community who will always support you and help you through what your going through right now ❤️❤️

one thing that i feel like people look over is that elle essentially outed nick to tao. i think intent is a big part of it and it’s clear that elle didn’t intend to out nick and more just wanted to help tao relax a bit but it did force nick to have to talk to tao about his sexuality before he was ready. queer people should have the right to choose who and when and how they come out. that being said, elle redeems herself time and time again throughout the series and i adore her but i think it’s important to acknowledge that it happened because people out queer people on accident a lot and it’s important to see it in something like this to try and correct behaviors!
