It has to be so difficult and intimidating to sing Taylor’s songs to her. Because he was singing to her, not us. He wanted to honor her and express how special she is to him. Her songs are so iconic and these beautiful male vocals only adds more depth and dimension to them. Like Taylor said, the kids are just fine ❤️ Sombr killed this.

It’s really funny and intentional, John Mayer honored Taylor with the Starlight Award in 2010, also he called ‘Dear John’ “cheap songwriting” and years later it was sung to honor Tay being inducted into the songwriters HOF, we love a full circle moment haha // Cried happy tears seeing Tay with her family and Travis being there for here was so special, she deserves it, so proud! 🤍

what also makes it special about sombr singing dear john is that when taylor won her first songwriter hall of fame award in 2010 john presented the award to her and talked about himself the whole time and made it sound like it was a huge surprise a young women could have won it. very full circle moment. we love petty taylor lol

Whether you react to it or not, you should definitely watch the speech Spielberg gave to introduce Taylor. It was so well written and he clearly did his research :)

I don’t remember the exact ages, somewhere between 14-15 was when I made the decision that I wanted to be a songwriter. But it wasn’t until when Speak Now album came out, where I knew 100% that’s what I want to do for the rest of my life. I love writing and Taylor is one big huge inspiration for that. Her words transport people into a movie and kaleidoscope of memories. The fact that her family believed in her and moved their whole life is insane but it’s so fitting. I love her not only because of her songwriting but also just her being. She’s one of the people in the world I think everyone can learn from. I can write a song based on a movie or a scene too, but not like her. Most of the time it’s just a verse and chorus. But usually if there is a song that played for like 20 seconds I used to try to “finish” the song. They weren’t any good, but I love that concept and she does that so well. But overall I cried when she spoke and Sombr did well and those two songs definitely inspired some of my songwriting.

Stephen Spielberg was the one who gave the introductory speech for Taylor & it was really great! You could tell he did his research.

Sombr’s rendition of the songs were so nice, especially Dear John. I just never imagined him going with a country pop ballad, but he ate it up & it’s a really good one to showcase Taylor’s songwriting

Sombr did an incredible job with embodying the emotions of those songs. I love hearing Taylor talk about her work and her outlook towards life. She has so much wisdom and sage advice and speaks with so much grace for everyone who helped her get here. She has changed my perspective in how I want to live my life. The i Heart awards, NYT interview and now this , in all her last three speeches she has made a point to comment on the state of the Industry and social media influence and given advice for young artist on how to navigate through that. It's a blatant manipulation that no major media publications made posts about that or the incredible speech that Steven Spielberg made for her, instead they clipped and made posts about her praising Sombr and twisted it into her praising a male artist over female.

Both of Travis’s parents were there along with both Taylor’s parents and brother. There was a clip of Donna and Travis seemingly crying while Steven was introducing Taylor. Both their parents have done an amazing job raising such kind, gracious people and still showing up to support their children.
