Since this one was partially blocked on YouTube, I wanted to make sure that anyone who wanted to see it could.

I absolutely loved this one!

This is a demonstration of what she can do with her voice. Her songs are always different and at the same time sounding familiar ... like some American pop ( not this one) ... And her voice craft is always outstanding. I can recommend many songs from Ado but maybe you should try "Show" next 😅 And yes: Ado is anonymous. You will not see any real Ado anywhere ...

Bandmaidfanatl

The most incredible vocal control I have ever heard, and I'm old.

Gustavo Campanelli

I think the first time she screamed she was saying hottokenai wich my limited japanese knowledge say it means something like "leave me alone"

Bandmaidfanatl

Love Ado, but I have to take her in little bites. So emotionally draining. And yes, no one has seen her.

My absolute favourite from Ado is "Tot Musica". That's the song I use to introduce Ado to friends. Second is "Crime and Punishment". To me, the rest somehow don't compare to these 2 no matter how intense they are. Maybe it's the musicality of those 2 songs.

TronDD

Might be my favorite vocal performance. Ado is amazing.

Bill Hallisey

Ado starts out so vulnerable and sweet and then becomes a powerhouse of emotion on a level I don't think U have heard before. If I were in that audience with the lights and the sound I wouldn't know if I were in heaven or hell!

Vlad the Maidiac

Ado is very popular, and there are many reactors I respect who truly adore her. But I don't know, for me... She sounds soooo... artificial. I can't help but reason within myself, like, OK, I understand the idea, in the modern times when all types of music seem to be already exhausted, she tries to sound different and thus attract attention. It clearly works, she does attract attention. But for me it does not look beautiful, what she's doing. She's got a very strong voice, and she definitely can sing in a normal way, she just does not want to. Those whispers, hitting wrong notes on purpose, sudden screaming... For me it does not express feelings, it just looks like she wants to sound different for the sake of different. I'm glad people like her and relate to her expressions. But for me... No. It just makes me scrunch my face each time she does it. "unravel" is a very popular song. I heard it the first time as a cover performed by ASTERISM, you can find it on their channel: https://youtu.be/CZ8aJPv616c Well, Ado can do those experiments with her voice, and I will not say it's wrong -- it's simply her decision to do it this way. But if HAL-CA would go into the same digressions on her guitar... That would sound plainly wrong. So, she's absolutely correct in avoiding it and playing the melody as it is, without any crazy stuff. All in all, no, I am afraid I will not be able to listen to Ado. It would keep me in a cursed loop of thinking, "Damn, why is she doing it?" This performance reminded me of Peter Hammill -- I consider him the greatest vocalist of all times. What can I compare "unravel" to... Maybe the crazy things Peter Hammill was doing on Robert Fripp's "Exposure." Like CHICAGO, for example: https://youtu.be/xSkO9UP3fR4 And Peter Hammill does the same vocal experiments in the right way, I would say. It's equally crazy as what Ado does, but to me it does not sound artificial. Thanks for listening to my rant 😒 I know it's a bad idea to criticize the music others love. But I really think in many cases people start to adore something simply because they have not heard other things, which have set the initial foundation. Sorry.

Ado makes his own genre. Björk does the same (in a different style, but still). On the other hand... Maybe it's time to break traditions

Vlad the Maidiac

No, never came to that stage as to listen to something else. I thought she is always like this... Thanks for a hint, definitely I should get deeper into her catalogue in order to have a better understanding of what she's doing.

Oleg Kaminsky

Oh, I thought so too at first, but after getting to know her entire catalog (and she has a lot of songs), I realized that she's kind of good at everything, which is kind of terrifying. She herself says that the lyrics of a song are important to her; if the lyrics are scary, she will scare you; if they are funny, she will sing in a honeyed voice. Let me suggest three songs in a different style, listen, your opinion will be interesting: 1) https://youtu.be/YO-rXgQKlF8?si=Vwj6LonNkQ2FQ7Ml 2) https://youtu.be/lfw8W3uWO7s?si=Ft6F0NQoh1wL9Wvf 3) https://youtu.be/v79I6c7fWtA?si=MW4EuGYIZNcMu1GM

It’s just that Unravel usually gets to the reactors, because there are a lot of metalheads in the USA, and they like this song. But this is not my favorite song, and Ado sang it once and made a studio recording. She doesn't sing it in concerts. Of her 20-25 songs in the set list, about 5 songs have metal elements. But she masters both growl and metal scream, and is excellent at yodeling. And she also raps.

Vlad the Maidiac

OK, maybe I'm not too deeply into her catalogue, again, but after listening to what you recommended, I should say that her voice is... mmm... lacking a flavor? Yes, something like that. Just too generic? It's strange that I say so after discussing her voice experiments, right? 😂 I was thinking about two singers when I was listening to the tracks you referenced above. One is LiSA, but in her earlier work in the Girls Dead Monster, a fictitious band from Angel Beats anime. Almost nobody remembers it now, but for me, I think that was her best project. There was even a live concert after that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z3B_GMxolo I don't like LiSA's later work, to be honest. People keep referring to her songs she provided for Demon Slayer anime, but I don't like what she did there. Girls Dead Monster was amazing, on the other hand. They released a whole album, and I remember it was on constant repeat in my headphones for a year or two since it came out in 2010. Another singer which I remembered as an example of "interesting voice" (since I called Ado "not interesting") is 川田 まみ (Mami Kawda) who was singing in Certain Scientific Railgun anime. There is something in her voice which touches me deeply. She disappeared soon after that anime came out, but recently came back and released a few MVs for her old songs: 「No buts!」 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKw1xewBUgY 「PSI-missing」 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OGpQGTLSic 「masterpiece」 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acEU1e49umI There is a lot of other great female voices in Japan, of course. My favorite is Maki Oyama, she's got a really strong rock voice. Her performances with ASTERISM and Aldious are truly amazing. From other genres, it's Angela (she provided songs for the famous anime Asura Cryin'): 「Spiral」 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLEJx_boTvw 「Alternative」 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKNcvEZbjGI angela has got a really unique voice, I would say. I was listening a lot to REOL when she was together with Giga-P: 「Give me a break Stop now」 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5CwXuyNfoc All her songs with Giga-P from that period are very good, just two examples which have the amazing MVs: ちるちる / ChiruChiru https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVaNq9uSJgY 宵々古今 / YoiYoi Kokon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IK6eLTNV1k I should also mention MINMI. Few people actually know about her, but she's got an amazing voice, and I like her Japanese reggae style. She is probably best known from her work in Samurai Champlu anime: Samurai Champloo - Shiki No Uta https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNplZrRSjeI OK, I should probably stop now 😁

Oleg Kaminsky

Oh, I know Reol well, I even subscribe to her. She began to be active again. There were great songs with Giga, by the way, Giga is now writing for Ado, just his song Show, which she sings. As for flavor, yes Ado goes into different genres and different styles, and it is not yet clear what she likes. However, she is only 21, I wonder what she will be like in a few years. Her latest songs, although commercial, I think her style will be like this:1) https://youtu.be/5iAQF_q6FSk?si=lYeLUnYcrAlbjkeZ 2) https://youtu.be/c5j7lpWprro?si=yvMRDySshbe_RIr0 I actually like Ado because you don’t know what to expect from her with each new song) But her voice skill is very great, I am very interested in how she learned all this, or was she born with such abilities. I like her mixes of punk rock and jazz best. I define Ado as a pop and punk rock singer and voice actor. I listened to Maki Oyama, but Ado evokes more emotions in me (well, what can I do)

Oleg Kaminsky

Here you also need to take into account that most of Ado’s songs are from Vocaloid culture, it was with Vocaloid covers that she became famous, but this is a separate and long conversation, although I like Vocaloid songs
