This one threw me for a loop, you guys!

I was not expecting to have so many adorable moments in this live performance!

Kanami and Miku playing together and then Kanami kneeling for Miku!

Miku singing a section of the song by herself!

Akane making faces at Saiki and Misa!

Akane going absolutely HAM on her drumset!

All of these things coming together to make one of my favorite videos. I feel like all of you have told me about these moments, but I never got a chance to see them until now!

I cannot wait for more!

Kanami is keeping an eye on Miku because at a previous show Miku forgot the lyrics, hence the nod of approval at the end.

When Akane had her moment to shine, they all knelt down to get out of the way so that the audience could all have an unobstructed view of her...

That was the fantastic concert at Line Cube Shibuya (Tokyo), just a month before the covid lockdown. At the end of that same gig they announced their Budokan concert on Japan's National Day 2021, it was the highlight of their career and there is a behind-the-scenes documentary that corroborates how excited and proud the girls were. Recovering from the cancellation of that never made performance has taken them a long time and a lot of effort. The result is their LP Unseen World, into which they poured all their anger and fear, making it a frenzied masterpiece. Freedom is a 2016 song (Brand New Maid) by Ichiro Iguchi with lyrics by Miku. The girls have made it deeply their own and tend to unleash themselves when they play it, they have absolutely crazy recordings of Freedom, if you can see the 2018 version it is worth it. Without a doubt they are the happiest band in the world and they show it at every performance. BTW: There's a video of Akane playing her rudiments ON Miku. Very funny.

Also, Kanami is Miku's sensai (she taught Miku how to play guitar) So, you can see the teacher encouraging her student. Also, the madiacs are very familiar with the songs, so we know what parts are ours. They deliberately write songs so fans can also have their moment. Their shows are VERY interactive, which is something you will understand when you are with them.

Freedom is the "other" reactors standard as it contains the ONLY real extended drum solo in the bands catalog. Quite old now (7 or 8 years I think) . It gets played at nearly every show. Our gorilla has done many more difficult parts and played much more intricate rhythms than this now, but fans still love to give her the spotlight :) .

Yes! The video of Akane Drumming on Miku is very funny to see but also therapeutic for Miku as she has stiffness in her shoulders.

This is my absolute favorite song. Not just by Band Maid, but by anyone. It's just so much fun and such great positive energy and if you get the chance to see them play it live you'll truly understand why this is such a band and fan favorite. You can tell they love playing it and the fans go nucking futs! If you have Band Maid Prime, check out the 2018 Zepp Tokyo concert (part 3 of 3). Right after the song "You" they kick in to this song with a badass intro that really sets the table. In that one there is no drum solo, but Miku and Mincho have a nice little guitar battle during Mincho's solo which is a lot of fun to watch. One thing for sure, no matter how many times you get to see them, you will never see the same show twice. They find ways to keep things fresh one way or another. Great reaction as always NittPicc! thank you!

Question for NittPicc - from the Band Maid songs you have heard so far, if you had to choose one for your "walk up" music, which one would it be? Mine would be this one. Freedom. Imagine them playing this in the stadium as you walk to the plate!

This video, in my opinion, caused their rise to rock god(dess) status. Music should evoke an emotion and there is no better one than happiness. This is why us geezers (52) love them. Hard rock from the 80s was all about fun. There are also legends of how the band would gather around Akane and make faces at her to try and get her to mess up.

Bill Hallisey

I think part of the joy on all the faces was not only because they love playing but they knew what was coming next with Akane's solo.

Princess Nittpicc, the legend of the Maids surrounding Akane is that the ong before that, "Play", Akane did something to throw Saiki off on purpose. They both laughed about it, but then the other Maids surrounded her and proceeded to make funny faces at her (the audience and the cameras didn't see that), to throw her offbeat. Akane, the true professional, simply made "kissy faces" at them and kept the beat with no problems.

Thank you for the freedom reaction, love your videos ‼️

For as long as I can remember, I've always been a bit more focused on the drums, but I've been listening to the bass more than ever since I met these ladies and I have a lot of respect for Misa and how she enriches songs with her playing. Together with Akane and also Miku, for me the perfect rhythm section. Rarely has the song title matched what you see on stage so well. The joy of freedom.

Prutgardin

If you check out the Zepp Tokyo version, you get an extended MISA/Kanami Chuck Berry-intro and Saiki crowdsurfing (losing her shoes in the process) ;) hehe

Akane hates long drum solos, and I think it takes her band-mates quite an effort to include one in a live performance. And I fully support her on this. Extended drum solos are always pretty boring, drums are not a melodic instrument. Well, unless it's a wall of drums like in that performance of Time by Pink Floyd, where there are two dedicated percussionists who just run and jump in front of a wall of toms where the top ones can be reached only when they jump pretty high. I think any drum solo on a regular drum kit gets boring after like 20 seconds. Akane did a special drum solo during their Yokohama Arena OKYUJI, but she did it in a smart way: she split it into two sections, the first one slow and groovy, and the second one fast and crazy. In this way, she avoided the problem of it getting boring. But even then, with all the preparation and stuff, the whole thing is only 3 minutes long: https://t.me/Bandmaid/7241

Exactly. And Kanami is not kneeling, she's sitting on a monitor. She is indeed watching Miku as if to see her failing... again. Miku also said in a commentary to this moment that "Kanami came and sang 'Go way Go way Go way' ", you can see her standing by Miku and shouting these words to the audience. Obviously, she had a lot of fun doing it.

Vlad the Maidiac

And then Miku pumped her fist in the air to incite the audience 🤘

Unseen World was released on January 20, 2021, while Budokan was planned for February 11. So, at the time of making Unseen World, the Maids still believed that they will play at Budokan. It was cancelled just a week before, on January 12th they announced that they decided to cancel the BUDOKAN SHOW: https://bandmaid.tokyo/contents/394036

Yes, Saiki singing while standing or a fence or something in the Princesses section was definitely a highlight of this show. There was a whole research made on Reddit regarding what happened to Saiki's shoes. The guy was able to analyze the video frame by frame, and show that Saiki has actually took off her shoes, placing them at her mic park/drinks stand in front of Akane's drum kit. She went to stand on the fence barefoot. After this, she returned to the stage barefoot, and was singing the next song, REAL EXISTENCE, without her shoes, putting them back on only during Kanami's solo.

Just so you know, Kanami was screwing around with Miku because she messed up her lyrics at a previous show. Kanami blocked Miku's monitor so she couldn't see the lyrics hence the sly smile when Kanami was sitting down. Also when they surrounded Akane they were making funny faces trying to get Akane to mess up, but Akane's funny face got Saiki to almost lose it.

liam ward

alright so you gotta react to Ohrenje's new Kanami documentary

Prutgardin

Indeed, if she had lost her shoes to the crowd, she wouldn't have gotten them back for Real Existence ;) hehe

"Play" from this show is a ton of fun

This is so hard! Mainly because I don’t want to isolate Saiki, but I feel like I would die to have “From Now On,” be my walk up music. It’s epic, it’s in your face and it feels like I’m about to take over the ring (I’m reminded of my boxing days, lol).

NittPicc Reacts

I forget that Kanami taught Miku! That’s so sweet. I could only imagine playing in an ensemble with my own student and friend. Crazy!

Charles Coleman

Excellent choice! Definitely an epic walkup! I can see it now!

Rebecca Haigh

I’m sure you remember but Kanami is Miku’s guitar teacher. So part of the moment is Kanami encouraging Miku.

Rebecca Haigh

I just remembered when you talked about drumming - there is a video of MISA drumming by ‘hitting’ Akane on her butt. It is really cute - not weird I promise.

Bandmaidfanatl

The studio is great as well. Saiki's pre-surgery voice is different but great, and there is a duel harmonizing lead guitar section at the end of the solo. Of course, no drum solo in the studio.
