It was so odd hearing the lyrics in my head for just a moment when I started watching this instrumental.

...you guys were so right. You can hear so much more! The musical effects that Kanami made! Especially the use of Saiki's voice placed within the song. She's always there!

I had a blast listening and having the opportunity to see what really lies beneath and man, was it so worth.

"I'll" is my favorite on the album and is my vote for the 3-way. My one critisism of this (and a couple of other B-M tracks) is the backing track becoming the prominant element ... it's just playing into the hands of those detractors that want to say "they dpn't play their own instruments". WIth this one though, Kanami is just doubling up (pretty much) what Miku is playing so curious why she doesn't play the lead (electronic) part. It's a great composition, but I think sometimes they need to realise what can (and can't) be played iive.

Thanks for watching this with us. I've read in an interview that Miku's voice is the one that is used to add any vocalizations in the songs, so those sounds that you heard that you said were Saiki were probably Miku. Also, removing Saiki/Miku voices changes the song a lot (i's that way on the other white room videos) and reveals all the layers that Kanami is adding to the songs.

NittPicc, were you aware that in 2022 for Miku's birthday - October 21st in Dallas - the fans had a cake made in the shape of Miku's guitar, the Flappy Pigeon. There is video of this on the 2022 Behind the scenes US Tour Blu-ray that was part of the Tokyo Garden Theater DVD/Blu-ray package.

Yes, these are amazing for revealing the hidden transitions and other awesomeness that the vocals mask. I wish they'd do vocal versions of the white room videos though, as the vocal layering on some songs is next level (I use LALAL.AI to extract them for myself just so I can hear them). If you have the Unseen World extras, there's a white room video of No God. And as I mentioned on Discord, there are two official live videos of this song. Also, there's no official regular video of Giovanni, but when you listen to that track, you know Kanami is doing something amazing, but you can't quite make out what it is, exactly. When you watch the white room video, you go, "Oh my God, is THAT what she's doing??"

I have a feeling that those electronic injections of voice samples are Miku's addition. She used those as an intro before her only live appearance as cluppo, opening for BAND-MAID at THE DAY OF MAID 2021 Online OKYUJI. You can also hear a lot of it before her OMAJINAI TIME sections at various OKYUJIs.

Sure I believe you, you never heard a lot of stuffs because you ONLY SAW SAILORS MOON🤭🐦🐦🐦po( if I remember correctly)

Excellent idea to bring the white room versions. Unleash is curiously not the song that produces the most impact when listening to its instrumental version, perhaps due to the prominence of the backing track's accompaniment. The ones that surprised me the most at the time were Domination (pay attention to Akane's footwork) and, of course, Giovanni. I think I speak for everyone if I bet on Giovanni's combo as a future contribution. Kanami has an absolutely monstrous pedal board and there are two or three videos on YT that explain it in detail (my favorites are the ones by Uncle Yoshi and JBF Music & Guitar) so you can expect her to get the most unexpected sounds out of her guitar. Band Maid holds these instrumental versions in high regard (in fact they have been doing it since 2016 when they published YOLO instrumental as part of the single YOLO) and their score books (they are publishing them from Brand New Maid), Kanami carries within her the spirit of a teacher (Kanami Sensei) and wishes that her music inspires others to continue her legacy.

Another great and super fun reaction NittPicc! Yeah, what's not to love? We all love, love, love to hear Saiki and Miku singing, but it's also cool to hear everything that is going on underneath those primo vocals. Kanami puts so much into these songs along with contributions and suggestions from her band mates, it's great to strip away the vocals and hear all this brilliance. I definitely think some 3-way comparisons would be a great idea. thanks again for all the fun and love you bring to your videos. You're the best!

Oh, it's never a problem for BAND-MAID to rearrange a song for a live version. They try to reproduce it live as closer to the studio version as possible, adding also the backing track when necessary, and it always sounds very close to an album version. Of course Kanami (and others) gets bored with the constant repetition of the same thing over and over, so, they add here and there an extra intro, or a guitar/bass battle, or an Akane's solo, or something else. They are perfect masters of their craft, for them to change a song is easy.

Vlad the Maidiac

Although I recall one instance when I think the translation from album version to a live one was difficult. It was Giovanni which they played at The Day of Budokan Online OKYUJI. Giovanni is probably my favourite song from Unseen World, and it's so prog-sounding that make it into live version was definitely a challenge. If they play it more often, I'm sure they will polish it, in the same way they polished Wonderland. But the first performance was a bit awkward. As perfect BAND-MAID is, some things are difficult even for them. Kind of, is God able to create a stone He would not be able to lift? 😂

Chalfo

not my point Vlad ... they can and do change things frequently for live but very rarely the backing track. How many times have you heard Unleash where Kanami has played that lead electronic part? The No God extended intro was awesome (TGT?) except they didn't cut the first part of the track (the ONE TWO THREE FOUR) when they introduced the riff - they should have gone straight in at that point but essentially they reset the song because of the backing track (didn't change it). My point is sometimes they don't necessarily consider the live performance enough when putting the song together (Kanami lovcs to add and add and add) Sometimes/increasingly it seems as if they are merely decorating a backing track. Just a concern, that's all.

Chalfo

sorry, think last comment was done at higher level. I'm all in favour if there is a purpose (thought about this a lot) for instance if Miku (and because) has to learn her parts later, she may have trouble and Kanami helps live ... but if the intent that Miku will eventualluy get those parts mastered and then Kanami can remove from the Backing Track, then no problem ... as long as the aim is to play as much of it as possible, I think it is entirely justifiable. Well, they can't be perfect if they need to fill out their sound with backing tracks? A moment of reflection during composition may be required otherwise it could just turn out to be instrumental karaoki. I love them and they're absolutely top notch but I think they need to start composing through sessions (for some) rather than Kanami coming up with idea, sending to others and then just adding and adding and adding... coming up with a complete song release before even playing it together (no idea if that's what happens ... but you hopefully get my point!)

Fantastic reaction! I just watched your interview with Maid News Network! I had to check them out after you mentioned them.

I will say what I think everytime, when Kanami dance with her guitar, that mean she really enjoy herself 😊.

Prutgardin

Without Holding Back ;) hehe

NittPicc, I must have missed this instrumental. I love how their songs have so much depth. Add to that the fun each of them are having (Kanami’s kick - cute) while playing. Is it any wonder we as fans love them and their music so much! While most songs, not all by any means, could not stand up on just the instrumental music and remain captivating. AMAIDzing!!!!! Thank you as always for an informative and fun reaction.

Bandmaidfanatl

Yes. Please. My 3rd favorite Band-Maid song.

Bandmaidfanatl

Agreed. While these white rooms stripped of the vocals (with the exception of the only instrumental Without Holding Back) are great to watch and listen to for individual instrumental details (and let's face it, the visuals), I find them overall lacking because Kanami uses the vocals as components to the overall composition, not just a "blanket" over a fully flushed out instrumental song.

Bandmaidfanatl

Dude, that's like saying The Beatles weren't perfect because they included back masking, or saying Cher isn't perfect because she used pitch correction as an artistic device. And Lord forgive if we get into Phil Spectre, ELO or Pink Floyd.

Chalfo

ok ... they weren't perfect either ... now what?

Eno L

Giovanni is my absolute favourite! The live, instrumental, Maiko versions are all superb!

Eno L

And that was one heck of an expensive cake!!!

Eno L

Yes, first time I heard white room Giovanni, it blew my mind! Couldn't believe I was missing out so much.

NittPicc Reacts

I’ve heard and saw a clip of it! SJ showed it to me after my first interview with them a while ago.

Eno L

I mentioned before in Princess Nittpicc's discord that she should try listening to the white room instrumentals first, then try and do what Miku does by adding vocals and lyrics afterwards. It would be a fun exercise and also showcase Miku's genius in coming up with the vocal parts.

Bandmaidfanatl

Probably your definition of perfect. Firstly, Vlad was being a bit facetious with "perfect.". Obviously, no artist or human can be perfect. Second, Vlad said "perfect masters of their craft." Their craft includes using non-physical instrumentation to achieve their desired result. To assume that Band-Maid's understanding of their "craft" must comport with yours is incorrect and a bit narcissistic.

Chalfo

I'm sure Vlad can speak for himself - or maybe you know better

Happy Freight Dawg

Wow! Miku has an awesome teacher, so it should not be surprising with her drive that she is doing intricate fills more and more. It’s awesome to see up close none the less! Fun to watch! Thanks for sharing!

Charles Coleman

That was so very cool! Band Maid birthdays are always very special when they are on tour! I was lucky enough to be in LA for Misa's birthday in 2022! SJ arranges some awesome stuff for the ladies!
