It was different.

Every.

Single.

Time.

I heard something new each time. I know that both the live performances along with the white room instrumental are all compositionally the same, but DEAR GOD the difference in how their instruments were mic'd up or recorded makes a huge difference.

Both live performances had significant sound output differences. I really enjoyed the most recent version from 2023. The quality was just overall better.

...the white room though. Nothing prepares me for that. I am still amazed at how they sound and how they play when I am not swimming in Saiki's powerful voice.

I'm absolutely blown away from the acoustic performance. The arragement is so tastefully done to match the toned down performance. Brava!

No God is Holding Back ;) hehe

Only 43 minutes & 54 seconds, lol. just finished watching MEDIUM OF SUMMER(spin off). Had to run back to my screen because of one song BIG DAD. BTW BEAUTIFUL HEADBAND but Missing 🌺 (with you fav color)

Bandmaidfanatl

Great sonwriting all through... the lyrics the Adam and Eve harmony... the vocal harmony with Saiki... the low-end harmony with MISA and Akane... the guitar harmony between Mincho and Miku... Would there have been harmony without God? I think they answer that question, maybe?

Bandmaidfanatl

Art is all about subjective interpretation. Damn the sleeve notes!

Eno L

Wait... Band-Maid has a sixth member now???

Jonas

Great reaction Band-Maid don't always play the songs and solos the same, they have always been doing different iterations, longer solos, instrumental intros, longer back and forth instrumental parts,...etc which they change each new tour they do (for example the DOMINATION live solo is not the same as the studio, the live one is longer featuring all the members, same as the "Hate?" bass guitar battle instrumental thing which doesn't exist in the studio version, same for "Don't you tell me" and the many different "Play" instrumental intros, even the NO GOD live you saw here actually had an extended intro which was unfortunately cut out of the Youtube upload for some reason). If you ever compare many of the live uploads to the studio versions or check out different live performances of the same songs from different years or Tours you'll notice it a lot

No Holding Back the hints Po! NittPicc will love it!

Charles Coleman

LOL!!! NittPicc, I love your Kanami cap! Will you wear it to your first Okyu-ji Po?

Bill Whitaker

There was a short period of time after Covid when concerts began to occur again, and the audiences in Japan was not allowed to basically have a good time, by screaming, yelling, or showing their appreciation for what they were hearing.

Charles Coleman

Talking about 007 and James Bond, don't you think that Kanami should do the sound track for the next Bond film? at least the theme song. And I think Misa could make a great Bond villain. Or maybe Saiki with her death stare. But I do think Band Maid would come up with some great music for the next 007 movie.

Spadeas

Ngl rewatching the live vesrion when Miku is next to Kanami, make me hope that one day we will see these two sharing a mic for the harmonies to Saiki hehe. But I'm based when it come to Miku, that why I love the "lululu" part that almost made Saiki laugh and miss her singing part and the high notes Miku deliver in the last part of the chorus. Can I add the way she jump around during the live performance, with her shoes and while playing ? She is a ball of happy energy that make me smile everytime. I can't wait for you to see an omijinai time and why this pigeon is so loved by the maidiacs ^^. But speaking of the accoustic, I already said it once, but my bigest surprise was "manners", she sound so differently from the studio one, and it's just Kanami and Saiki too, right after "different", so you already know that it will be a good time.

Bandmaidfanatl

Wait til she hears Don't Be Long and Go Nuts. More MI than Bond, but still...

Charles Coleman

I really enjoy this song and did not mind in the least your deep dive 4-way. As much fun as this song is to hear and see, it's nothing like experiencing it live and in person. definitely a fan favorite during concert time! And if you think watching Misa is mind blowing, try and park yourself in front of her on the rail and watch her work her magic from just a few feet away. I was lucky enough to do that twice in 2022 and I was just in awe of her greatness. And she makes it look effortless.

Glenner7

Thank you - this was great fun. I love the in-depth approach you've taken. I have the Unseen World score, but alas my understanding of sheet music is extremely basic. Did you read any of the interviews in the book (that's the main reason I wanted it, along with the instrumental CD of course)? I find it funny that every staff member interviewed, except one, said that they were afraid of Saiki. That's hilarious.

Bill Hallisey

You know, MISA maybe considered something of a musical genius as well as Kanami.

Bill Hallisey

I would love for Kanami challenge or encourage MISA to pen a song and give the melody to Kanami to fill in. That would be fun.

Chris Bergsten

MISA talked about wanting to do some songwriting a couple years ago, but from what I can gather nothing came of it - she hit some kind of block or something and hasn't come up with anything she likes yet.

Glen Kelley

Blasphemy!!! No God? Who says? We all know that kami has placed these five luminous individuals on this dirt ball to bring joy to all.

Chris Bergsten

I see why you're getting Twinkle, but that part always sounds like the NBC jingle to me. Probably not even the same notes though. MISA has said this is her favorite song on the album due to the complex bass part. I think it's one of those songs where Kanami said "here MISA, write whatever bass part you want" and MISA thought "well, I should make this interesting" and the way she did that was by writing a three minute solo with a solo in the middle. It's worth keeping in mind that MISA and Akane both went to a prestigious music school, in addition to Kanami apparently being some kind of prodigy. This is no garage band, it's a nerdy prog band. We shouldn't be surprised when they throw in jazz and song-length bass solos; if anything we should be surprised they're still writing accessible, radio length rock songs.

Richard N

Bond-Maid? Band-Maiko? All alter ego's?

Richard N

Kanami - "Slap where you want and Pick what you like". MISA - OK

Juan San

Excellent deep dive into this complex song. For my part don't hold back on these videos, I love that they are long. No God is a different composition all key, rhythm and protagonist changes. What for me makes Band Maid stand apart from the rest is the songwriting always choosing generosity as the rule (the hard way to entertain by giving it your all) and the mastery of their arrangements. In the latter they are unique, in their last acoustic concert they managed amazing versions of songs like Bubble or Coralium. In the live version you heard the audience was silent because the covid rules had not faded and you couldn't shout. In my opinion that was their most difficult act, performing for nine thousand people in silence must be terrifying. Thanks NittPicc!

Badllama

1234 Parking Lot.... that's my story and I'm sticking with it 😜

MrMette

One of the reasons for the big difference in stage presence is that the one you watched for youtube was a streamed show without audience during COVID and the live one you watched here was during a big concert on a pretty big stage. Also, they only relatively recently released this track (on the Unseen World album) when they recorded the first one you watched and they were more than used to play No God when they performed it in 2023. As far as the acoustic version goes, it's probably my favourite track of that Christmas Acoustic set and I love that whole set in general.

picti_pixie

Really enjoyed this! Always love how in-depth you get and how you help to make sense of the music 😊 Happy my scorebook is helping you out too - glad you're enjoying it! ✌️💗

NittPicc Reacts

I cannot thank you enough for lending me your items. The score has been a joy to dig through!

NittPicc Reacts

I haven’t dove into the interviews yet. Since I have that book I do plan on reading through these interviews!

NittPicc Reacts

It was soooo cute to see Saiki giggle at the “Lulu Lulu” line. Their chemistry on stage is so precious!

NittPicc Reacts

They definitely would make a really cool Bond theme. It would expand their compositional prowess. I would love to hear what they could create and come up with to match that “Bond feel.”

NittPicc Reacts

Oof. Well…I should retract my statement. 😅 I do like the idea, but concert goers should be able to cheer, scream and have a great time.

NittPicc Reacts

I will when the time comes! I would actually love to get a Kanami or Miku maid outfit tailored as well. I really love Miku’s outfit the most, but since I have a headpiece that’s close to Kanami’s, I’m more than happy to wear her outfit!

NittPicc Reacts

I hope to get a purple rose for this headband sometime soon!

M.and.PofB-M

Do you know when it was too hot and Mincho felt upset threw away her Headband😁😏

Edward Allen

Miku and Kanami sang harmonies together in a few songs at this years acoustic concert and they sound incredible together, Miku's ability to match other voices is incredible

Rebecca Haigh

Band-Maid is always aMAIDzing! The fact that they rewrote these songs to fit an acoustic setting says volumes about them as musicians. I loved this in-depth listen, discuss, play another version, discuss then rinse (kidding). Hopefully since the Maids are becoming more open (less shy, for the most part) this will give MISA courage to compose a song(s) herself as she said during an interview.

Happy Freight Dawg

Very cool! each was so different, the studio broadcast, the live concert, white room, the acoustic to top it off! As a bassist I revel at Misa’s fine touches… the sustained notes forming the chords at the end of the solo forming the foundation for the band to fall in together and rejoin… what musicians! Are they a jazz band that plays rock, or a rock band that plays jazz? THEY ARE BAND MAID! “Yes!” (As in multi/and) Final answer!

Rebecca Haigh

I too would love for MISA to write a song giving the melody to Kanami. Then with both of them, and possibly Akane as well, writing out the song with MISA taking the lead in composing. With Band-Maid there is no limit to what they can achieve. This will be a fun journey.

Sawzar

I think this was second or third song i listened from Band Maid: it was the one that got me definitively addicted to them. I didn't know the acoustic version until now, so thank you NittPicc: I agree with everything you said!

Zelbinian

I'm just gonna start calling countermelodies "Kanamis"

David Cook

MISA MISA MISA!!!!! MISA MISA MISA!!!!! MISA MISA MISA!!!!!

Kenneth n Goodwin

Awesome video! What other band provides so many ways to listen and enjoy their music. No god is a fav of mine. It’s fantastic to be in the audience when it’s played live.

Drive Time

In this case it is an advantage to be late. You mentioned how nice it would be to see Band-Maid in an intimate setting. They are doing exactly that on March 20 and April 13 at Osaka and Tokyo. The venues are 300-350 people with tables, dinner, and they announced a dress code for the shows. There will be two shows each night. A table right in front of the stage is only $68* (plus dinner). That would be awesome. *Granted, the yen is very weak right now relative to the dollar. 4 years ago, that would probably have been close to $100. Still a bargain IMO.
