I laughed editing this.

My face when I first heard what Kanami was doing a the beginning of this was pure gold. She never ceases to amaze me. I wish I had Kanami's compositional talents. Composing is not simple. It takes a certain kind of brain and Kanami has that and MORE!

Saki and Miku harmonizing together is just right and then hearing Miku's guitar glisses mixed in with Misa's tasteful yet amazing bass line...gold.

We cannot forget Akane. Dear lord...the INSANE double pedal in the middle section that pummles your ears (in a good way) is to die for. It hits your face, then your ears, and then your heart and pounds deep into the soul.

What is so cool about this reaction was the only 2 recordings that were the same besides losing Saiki and Miku's voice, was the album version and the instrumental version.

The 2024 Day of Maid was slightly different in Akane's drum parts and the Christmas acoustic was beautifully arranged. Just amazing work.

I had H - G - K as my alarm for quite a while. Works pretty well :D

Unseen World is my favourite album from them so far. We know that it's a result of Kanami being overstressed due to COVID—and at the same time having too much free time alone, locked up in her house. But the result was a gem of an eye-blinding luster. I remember the Champ of Medium said, while reviewing this album, that Akane here stopped caring about the normal rhythm anymore, and just went loose. When he said this, I thought, for some reason, of some painter's comment regarding the invention of photography. That artist said, photography liberated the artists from the dictates of realism. Before that, it was considered the pinnacle of professionalism to paint a picture as close to reality as possible. But when photography finally filled that need of realism, the artist could just draw what they want. I think, since BAND-MAID uses click track while playing, Akane is freed from the need to provide rhythm. She can just do whatever she wants, becoming a true "lead drums" she always was in her heart. In Unseen World, her drumming is truly another lead instrument, on par with MISA's bass and Kanami's crazy guitar. Who cares about rhythm, let's break these bonds and unleash the power of the drums!

Still Holding Back on the actual White Room Instrumental ;) hehe

Remember we didn't have the "I wonder how they're going to transition this to acoustic" - we didn't have the Christmas set list we were just hit with the "Bloody Hell, NO GOD ... what??? H-G-K ... wtf??? Different, just 2 of them???" etc. Was quite the experience.

Really good thoughts. Like most of the greatest albums of all time (Sgt Pepper, Pet Sounds etc), UW was a perfect storm for the reasons you laid out. Quite honestly, I don't expect any subsequent albums to quite reach that level and I'm okay with that. UW might be the greatest hard rock album of all time. I love EN and the variety and change of pace songs it has. It has 2 songs in my top 15 and a couple of others in top 25. Even the Beatles, after Sgt Pepper, went a very different direction with the White Album.

You really walked into a bomb with this one. No mercy, no mercy, no mercy, indeed! I really believe that Unseen World will be studied and revered by 22nd and 24th century musicologists. So counting in fives, one for each member, you confirm that Band-Maid is opportunity - a golden opportunity to amaze us all! In the live, I just wish they had shown Miku playing the downward slides that you identified as pweeump pweeump etc. It seems to me that they often don't show Miku doing cool things on the guitar (like in Wonderland, Hate?, and others I'm sure - yes, they showed her being cool in the official live Wonderland, but she was still in relative shade). By the way, in the sheet music I assume the music bars identified on the left as Hamo refer to harmony, but I was thinking at first that it might have referred to when a member "goes ham" on something... I'm here all week, try the veal!

Yeah, I also doubt that another such amazing album may appear in the future. Unless we have COVID-26 or something similar. "What don't kill you makes your more strong," — it's so true in case of BAND-MAID. Epic Narratives is a nice album, but it's much more "normal" than Unseen World. "Forbidden Tale" is Saiki's realization that BAND-MAID is now truly a part of the history, and their music is now immortal. A song which is a musical embodiment of that Tower they built and pictured on the album cover. The tear-jerking songs like Memorable and The One, catchy things like Protect You and TAMAYA!, amazing Go Easy... Every song you take is a gem and a masterpiece. But Unseen World was a revolution in music, in my opinion. Another revolution, Number Nine or whatever it was. But the world would do well to pay attention to it—only if it would have ears to hear. I pray every day that BAND-MAID will stay healthy and strong, and will continue to amaze us constantly with their new material. It's only 11 years since they came into existence. For other great bands, like, say, Metallica, it would be the end of their "great" period and the beginning of their decline. Or even the end of things, like for Led Zeppelin. I hope it's not the case for BAND-MAID, and they will keep their agility and creativity for at least a couple more decades. They are not only crazy creative, but they also are systematic and well-organized. Long live BAND-MAID!

This was so enjoyable to watch and listen to. Thank you for taking us, especially musical knuckle draggers like me, on this extended dance mix deep dive. Your knowledge and your enthusiasm help us to further appreciate the brilliance of this band. I love seeing the joy in other people's faces when they experience this band that I love so much. And Happy Birthday to our favorite Pigeon Po!!! We love you Miku!! Her birthday is October 21st, but it's already that day in Japan, so we celebrate early Po! Kuruppo! Thanks again NittPicc!

This song is the bomb! lol. Kanami wrote a song that she literally couldn't play. And she knew it (as she has explained in several interviews). It took months of dedication to be able to record it for Unseen World. I guess in those oppressive times of pandemic everyone brought out their demons in a different way. Over time the girl can play it perfectly live, which is what she is a guitar genius for, you just have to give it time. The three parts of the "flight of the bees" are each different from each other so I suspect that making muscle memory of that was a feat. Several of the songs on UW contain the best bridges in the band's discography, this one in particular is absolutely wonderful. The simple fact that they chose this particular song to do an acoustic version is something out of the charts.

In Band Maid Prime there is a recorded conversation between Akane and Miku (One-on-one talk vol.5 "AKANE×KOBATO") about the complexity of the rhythms of their music. Probably Akane meticulously writes her notes on her own sheet music because in most of their music rhythm and melody run different (in your example it would be like an impressionist painting where the stroke is not real and you only see the image when you take a distance) so it's difficult to isolate what is leading or what is supporting in each segment and Kanami loves to change the protagonism of each instrument, as if she were the conductor of an orchestra that emphasizes each section with the movement of her baton.

What shocks me each time, is how great ALL the Maids are. They all soar to enormous heights in their work, and if anyone would be just a "regular" musician, she would fall behind and be completely lost. But it never happens. We may think that Miku may have a hard time coping with the rest of her bandmates, but in reality she is also incredibly talented, only her talent is more "universal," so to say. She can keep a crazy rhythm on her guitar, and at the same time provide amazing backing vocals for Saiki. Not a weak link by any means. All Maids play their parts, seemingly paying attention only to that part, and I am watching this chaos always in awe, thinking it must all crumble the very next moment. Kanami is doing her crazy guitar shredding, as if she's alone in the mix. Akane goes on her own, seemingly not paying any attention to other instruments at all, just living in her own universe. MISA is weaving her dark webs in the background, immersed in her own thoughts. Saiki is singing her melody no matter what, as if being deaf to that chaos which is raging about her. Miku inserts her random interventions on guitar and hype-shouts at the most unexpected places. How can this even continue, I always think? But nope, this chaos is perfectly controlled by their collective hyve intelligence. They are really like a single brain in five bodies, juggling these music lines like a magician juggles a deck of cards with one hand. It always starts perfectly, goes perfectly, and ends perfectly.

Miku named the song after an actual type of bomb, and then insisted that the song be "explosive" (Nailed that BTW) but was thinking more like a glitter bomb ;) The letters stand for "Hassas Güdüm Kiti" (turkish), which translates to "Precision Guidance Kit"

Great reaction. Love seeing all the different versions as usually. HGK was always one of my favorites from the Christmas acoustic set.

Bill Hallisey

Kanami probably a control freak, but in the nicest way. She sweetly expresses where she is trying to go with a piece and the bandmembers love and respect her so much, the don't to let her down. They then strive to improve their own individual excellence.

Glen Kelley

When Mincho was composing this at home, a bumblebee invaded her studio. The HGK is a guidance system for bombs - it guides the bomb to its destination (target). No one know why Miku choose that name, her mind is a mixture of avian and human thoughts. So since bombs fly and birds fly, maybe that's the connection. PO.

Juan San

The girls just uploaded the HGK rehearsal to BandMaid Prime.

Great video NittPicc, loved seeing all the versions together and you were on point (as usual) and very informative to a non-musician like myself :-) Btw, I have the Day of Maid blu ray but haven't had the time to watch it.....yet :-0

Rebecca Haigh

Scrub over sections of your video explaining HGK, excuse me, HECK NO. This was amazing in so many ways. The complexity, and the insanity of it all is - wow!!! I sure couldn’t begin to give a tenth of the explanation and make it interesting. Thank you NittPicc.

Rebecca Haigh

Don’t get in the way of the smart Pigeon!!!!

MISA MISA MISA!!!!! MISA MISA MISA!!!!! MISA MISA MISA!!!!! MISA MISA MISA!!!!! HGK is NOT the "Bomb" but the "Guidance Control System" (it steers Bombs) and it is indeed Turkish
