LITE is a band that I can really get on board with.

At first I wasn't sure if I fully understood the reason why they are considered a "math" band, but after listening...I completely get it now. LITE has such a overall great sound and the way that their contrasting rhythms line up to create a continuous line of 16th notes between players really creates a unique listening experience.

...now the MoCap. I not gonna lie...I really watched the tab mostly the first time, but it was hard not to catch the mannerisms of Akane and Kanami. It's so cool that they were used for that motion capture. I also wonder if the RIALM version is of Ghost Dance is an arragement made by Kanami and Akane or if it was arranged for them to perform for the show.

Either way, it was cool stuff!

When I go to a math rock concert, I always bring a calculator in case there is a test at the end. The studio was smart to hire BAND-MAID, not only can they play/mocap the music, but they also have the composing chops to modify the music for the show. If you like the interesting rhythms in LITE, then two active Japanese bands you might like are: sokoninaru and tricot.

Does this anime is more spicy than sold to you ? In a certain way, I would say yes, but not necesseraly the way you think. Nothing spicy is show to us, but the dialogue on the the other hand, might get some "excuse-me" out of you (and some good laugh if you're cool with it). The "dominatrix" bit here, is more an expression of the feeling of the character. Without saying to much, that is the opposite of Band-Maid, the two characters in this scene try to overpower the other, its a duel not a duet. But I bet that Kanami and Akane didn't really take it like that and had a really good time recording it ^^.

Nice! The guitar and drum arrangement is by Shinpei Nozaki, as are the rest of the anime's songs (which come from the original manga by Horoshi Fukuda). There are several short clips of the girls playing this music (which Akane found difficult because it's so far removed from her style). The next song they both play in the anime is Youth by the band Mudy on the Sakuban, another wonderful instrumental. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rZ6YAXM37zQ Kanami playing Ghost Dance https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YF95ttMZtnM Akane https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Nbz8Q1Xx7Tk Kanami playing Youth https://www.youtube.com/shorts/KzxdvieUEps Akane

Definitely hints of Zeppelin’s “Achilles Last Stand” in this song. Especially the newer version. So, if we are going to discuss math rock, I must continue to beat the drum (in an odd time signature) for you to react to Suichu Spica and their math/prog/dream pop epic “Spica”! https://youtu.be/zHj6MsXGvgw?si=1_BELrR_d32_Rjug

I think the relationship between Ririsa and Otoha actually follows BAND-MAID atmosphere even in this regard. Exaggerated for the sake of the show, of course, but Kanami mentioned it in many interviews, that their philosophy is, "Say this openly now and don't suppress it until it grows big." So, I think in the studio the Maids may also scream at each other from time to time, calling each other stupid, but then they agree on something, and the harmony is restored.

It was funny that ASTERISM decided to call themselves "Math Rock" at one point, but then they quickly understood that their philosophy is not be boring, and renamed their style to "mass rock" 😂

It was more in a music sense that I said that. Band-Maid member don't try to steal the show, they do solo, "battle" and all kind of thing, but even in their song, they don't try to outshine the other members imo. But in this battle between Lili and Oto, that was a true battle in the sens of ech trying to take controle over the other.

I read an interview with them and Akane said that they were never that rude to each other.

Kanami and Akane each posted solo performances of Ghost Dance on X. The drummer of LITE praised both.

It is not spicy, just suggestive. It is set in an all-girls school and has some "yuri" subtext. There is one girl who is referred to as a "prince". Eventually you will see Misa and Saiki mocap.
