Look...hearing them talk about the dirty jokes they talk about when they are getting ready for a "serving" is not unusal for me. You'll be surprised how us ladies can be behind doors.

I'm glad the maids share this sense of humor! These are my kind of girls! 😏

Oh, I remembered that again... It was 2018, and I discovered BAND-MAID just a month or so before. And I checked, do they have any live shows. It turned out they have a European tour! I looked at the dates, and the first one was in Helsinki. I could have flown there easily. But I have never been there, and I did not want to ask for a vacation at the time because the workload was pretty big... And then I saw that they will be in Amsterdam! I was going to Amsterdam very often, our office is in Rotterdam (that's where I moved finally when the war has started in 2022). So, I immediately bought the tickets to Amsterdam, to that Melkweg club OKYUJI (yes, OKYUJI is "serving"). But if I would decide to fly to Helsinki, I would see the Maids in the Moscow airport! We would probably fly on the same flight. They say they missed that flight, but if I would be there, I imagine that I could help them catch it. Because they missed just because they could not read an information in English. What a miss on my part... I could have helped BAND-MAID, and I did not happen to be in right place at the right moment... I think they flew through Sheremetyevo airport. It's the newest one, the most modern, really huge. And the announcements there are DEAFENINGLY LOUD. Like, really really LOUD. It almost hurts your ears, it's like 120 dB level. How could they say it was quiet, I don't understand. Well, if they would fly through Domodedovo to Japan, they would have a pleasure of hearing the announcement in Japanese as well. But anyway, this was a flight to Helsinki, and I think the maximum they could get would be Finnish... Which would not be of great help to them.

Saiki and Miku are such a perfect "odd couple". I saw this video years ago in my early stages of indoctrination and found it to be then, as now, hilarious. While I do prefer the interviews where they talk seriously about their music, this kind of banter is also priceless. Saiki sounded pretty serious to me (in a joking way) when she said that if Miku wants to be hated for being annoying, she'll grant her her wish... :-)

Vlad the Maidiac

There was something happening with the airports at the time, it seems. Because my luggage was also lost when I flew to Amsterdam that month to see BAND-MAID. They have found it the same evening, yes, exactly as with BAND-MAID.

Rick

I obviously thought they were cute--I have eyes. However, the first concert I attended with them. I was right at front by Misa. She is stunning in person. I was genuinely surprised.j Also, in person Saiki has a hypnotic stage presence,

Vlad the Maidiac

I wonder if the author of "Rock is Lady's Modesty" manga was actually basing the story on BAND-MAID. That "bickering" they talk about, that's exactly how Otoha and Lilisa treat each other, right? "You are a bag of soggy garbage!!!!"

Charles Coleman

This was awesome! I had seen parts of this before, but never the whole thing. Is anyone surprised that it is Misa who stars the dirty jokes? LOL! Not me! Just another reason to love our mochi-butt bass assassin! As for women being as dirty minded as men, I am not surprised. In between the Marines and the Post Office, I worked delivering pizza and waiting tables. Most of the servers were women and after a while, they seemed to forget that us 3 guys were there and just let it rip. women can get just as raunchy and dirty as us guys, if not more so! But there is nothing wrong with that!! Also, I think that over the years, Saiki and Miku have grown much closer, as have all the members. But I think it's very healthy the way they deal with their differences. One final thought - I REALLY want to know the dirty jokes they tell each other! LOL! Thanks NittPicc and thank you Vladimir!

What really shocks me... still... and brings tears to my eyes, is how adorable they are. I remember when I read a story of Metallica, I decided for myself that I will never, ever read about the life of the rock musicians. Music is great, and that should be enough for me, this was my determination. But with BAND-MAID it has all changed. They really restored my trust in humanity. They are amazing from all sides: as musicians they are second to none, and as human beings they are worthy of every praise. May they live happily for ever and ever...

Vlad the Maidiac

Yes, my first serving I was also on MISA's side. Her movements... She was like a black panther, flowing from one posture to the other with such grace and hidden force... It looked like she was weaving the webs of music with het mighty Black Smoker. An absolutely detached look on her face... she was living in her own world. MISA MISA MISA!!!

Rick

The second time I saw them I was near Saiki. Were you at the Chicago show? I've seen them four times. But the Chicago show was special. You could tell they were happy how everyone remember them and showed up. And, Emotional. Akani killed me during Endless Story. Being down by Saiki I could see Akane well.

This fantastic interview (and a very interesting source of collateral information, lol) is a treasure. Thank you, Vladimir, for preserving it. It belongs in a museum! Vladimir's Band Maid Museum.

When this interview came out, even Japanese fans couldn't believe the naturalness and good humor with which they shared topics that could be embarrassing in such a closed environment as some aspects of Japanese society, something similar to when Ado's song Usseewa came out. I think something is moving in Japanese society, and it's being driven by women.

Juan San

I can't imagine another band sleeping sharing a bunk on a bus on tour... ah, that sisterhood.

Vlad the Maidiac

Yes, I was on the balcony, on your right side if you are facing the stage. I attended 10 shows in that 2022 US Tour, out of total 14.

Rick

I’m in Indianapolis. When they announced the tour I went to Washington DC since it’s an easy trip. Then after I got the tickets the added Chicago. How could I not go? It’s so close. So I want again. I was happy to see they varied the set list. When they came back I saw them in Nashville which is also close. I have a cousin who lives in Minneapolis so I visited her and we went to the show together

Rebecca Haigh

Thanks NittPicc and Vladimir Chupin, for this interview. I had not seen it previously. What I love about it is how genuine both Miku and Saiki are during the interview. It just confirms what we already knew - Band-Maid are a group of talented, intelligent and cute Ladies.

frantaf

I work with team of women, they enjoy naughy jokes and talk even more then group of men.

Sawzar

Thank to Nitt and Vladimir Chupin. It is so funny the interaction between Miku and Saiki: they have this kind of friend-enemy relationship (well not real enemy, actually) , that work well... The problem is that, now, i'm stuck figuring out how does freshly made mochi sounds like......!!!

Eaglez1

Interestingly NittPicc, Miku IS the proud owner(part owner) of a racehorse nowadays. She's also quite an accomplished poker player. I believe she flew to Korea(?) Or somewhere like that to play in a legit tournament and finished 2nd place

Chris Bergsten

MISA's about 5'5" IIRC (there was a persistent rumor that she's 5'8" but she debunked this herself on Twitter a while back). The thing is, though, all of the Maids are TINY. They're stereotypically petite Asian women. So at 5'5" MISA is like... lanky. She kinda looks like a runway model that got shrunk.

David Cook

It took me to the second serving I attended to get 2nd row MISA and like you and Rick both say MISA is sleek and Sai-chan is stunningly MESMERIZING.

seizetheday

Saiki's face when Miku says mornings. LOL
