It's sweet that Yui's club friends wanted to help her buy her first guitar that was way out of her price range, but it was even more sweet is Yui asks her friends to keep their money to spend on themselves.

I don't care if this anime isn't all about music. Watching this kinds of friendship makes my heart happy!

Who don't fall in love at first sight with a Gibson Les Paul? More if it is like that of my hero Mark Knopfler. HE.

So thought I'd do some background in terms of the cost of Yui's guitar and the numbers thrown out earlier in the episode, as you'd forgot to factor inflation into the price. 50k JPY as the baseline figure thrown out for a decent quality playable guitar equates to approx. $340, however given K-On came out in 2009, once you allow for inflation you're actually looking at a little over $500. So the 250k JYP the Les Paul Standard is priced at would be $1691 which is now $2542 allowing for inflation. Looking back at UK prices from back then for comparison these are not entirely unrealistic figures, I started playing in the early 00s so still have some magazines from thereabouts with store price lists in the ads, which were far more common back before online shopping really took off. Of my 20+ guitars/basses only a handful were bought new, either due to hunting for specific features or buying literal fixer-uppers. Spent several years working part time as guitar tech, so have developed a habit of picking up guitars with RRPs in the $500-1200 price range on the cheap that need repairing and then afterwards spending another $200-400 on upgrading parts & customising them to my requirements. There's a fair bit of spare time involved with each but it's meant I've ended up with guitars that punch above their weight and/or with more unique features/specifications. Speaking of the secondhand market though, Japan is great as the condition of a lot of the equipment is really nice with a higher focus on maintenance and taking care of your gear. A friend spent a semester studying out there last year and just to have something to play picked up a perfectly usable secondhand Aria Pro ii Mac-Std superstrat for 12k JPY which is about $80 USD (in the US their new RRP is around $250-350 depending on where you look). There's also a lot of exclusive domestic market only Japanese brands and models. If I won the lottery/money was no object I could happily spend at least a couple of weeks hunting round the guitar shops and Japanese Yahoo auctions for a bunch of gear you don't generally find in Europe. The cost of guitars have actually risen faster than inflation over the last 20yrs or so for a variety of factors, both related to labour costs and increases within the material supply chains. This year's model of the PRS SE Custom 24 Floyd electric guitar, which you have been gifted, would be considered a lower middle of the range import model by the standards of the brand and would still set you back a little over $1k USD.

Separately from my ramblings about guitars, I'm enjoying re-watching K-On also. Slice-of-Life is one of my favourite anime genres and this is one of the classics that gave rise to many things that've since become cliched elsewhere.

Couple of answers to your questions. On the name causing embarrassment, from what I've read about Japanese culture, no one uses the given names (not family) when speaking to others, only family and relatives and close friends use a given name when speaking to people in their close group. So it's a big deal to call someone by their given name. You see this trope a lot of romance anime. Picking the first guitar by looks, remember that Miku selected her first guitar by how it looked. The ending outro - did you notice that Mio the bassist is wearing a tiny hat, dressed all in back, and likes to be in the background, humm, who does that sound like? Thanks for continuing with the series.

BAND-MAID definitely tried to borrow certain symbols from K-ON anime. Thanks for noticing MISA's tiny hat, I missed that reference before. I noticed only the tea set which BAND-MAID used for quite a long time. Last time it appears in Manners MV, I think.
