I think Mayu really knows her abilities and I like to believe her intentions were what Kumiko believed no matter what Kanade thought about her.

The auditions were an upset. Poor Kanade didn't make the ensemble and Kumiko lost to Mayu on the soli section with Reina.

While Kumiko really wanted to be a part of the soli section, I almost feel like that conversation with Reina may have shook her a bit. She works very hard to stay practiced and does her best to be an amazing president...I feel like she had to faulter somewhere.

That doesn't lessen her position in band though.

The tension in this episode is so dense that it weigth on you. The line "Your music is going to reflect your state of mind" from early episodes is in full action. We are in the final third act and things began to get messy. Kanade's verbally wrestling with Mayu is always a fun experience.

It's ok, since it's the polici they adopted. But it's not like we faced how really good Mayu was, since she held back. In Kumiko's shoes, i would like to know to whom i lost to...just for peace of mind

these few episodes are why I love this season so much. This plot with kumiko and mayu and the solo is so far and above every other piece of melodrama in the whole series (apart from everything going on in liz and hte blue bird that is). the season finally airing after what felt like forever felt like a real hurrah, but the season itself is just so SO stifling at every moment. The tension just rises every episode in such a believable way, its awesome
