You need to remember that Mugi come from a wealthy family, she have money, she have butlers and maids, being goofy with friends and getting "a love tap" or "invasion of personal space" like the others girls do, wasn't part of her childhood assumingly. This group might be the first that she had a true friendship like that, whe sue is treated like any of the other girls, she have experienced a lot of things that she didn't before with them, so after more than one years together, she wanted to feel even more part of the group and that is pretty cute, in a Mugi way ^^. But in defense of Mio and Ritsu, they're childhood friend, they know each other for so long that is pretty normal to have this kind of relation between them. Same with Nodoka and Yui, Nodoka taking care of Yui while she sleep and Yui being extra hurt by this betrayal with the strawberry, is another exemple. Also, Ritsu didn't whack Mugi because she didn't like the compliment, but more because she was embarrassed. Mugi have been seen as a yuri enjoyer from time to time, when two women or girl seem close to each other, you can see Mugi glowing, so basically, she was saying that Ritsu tomboyish act and kindness would made her popular with the girls if she didn't act goofy all the time. In yuri you have the stereotype of the princess and the prince, you can see it in Rock is a lady's modesty with Otoha, the pretty princess that all the girl love, same with Lilisa's mask, but also Tina, who is the prince because of her tomboyish look, and all the girls love her too. Mio and Ritsu could be like that, Mio have already her fan club, but Ritsu could have her own if she wasn't the clown ^^.

This episode, specifically the clip of mio cyring over her strawberry, is super famous and iconic. you see it everywhere in anime circles. Probably the best set up and punchline in the entire show. I MUST defend Yui's honor here, because its the one thing i'll agree with her on. Nodoka was INSANE for taking the strawberry. If I offer you to try a bit of my CAKE with a single strawberry on top, surely you would take a scoop of the spongy part because thats what the CAKE is. If you just eat the strawberry thats not eating a piece of the cake???? Thats just eating a strawberry??? I do not appreciate everybody except mio gaslighting Yui into thinking this isn't insane, SHES RIGHT. #VIDINCATEYUI

Also this is the first appearance of my favorite ending and EASILY my favorite op. I adore the op, I think it clearly captures most what makes K-ON so special to me. I found the first season op's visuals to be kinda whatever, and I honestly think the op song in the first 13 episodes to be just a bit too hyper for me to enjoy. The song itself feels like a really good typical HTT song. It's super fast while not feeling too grating. The visuals are where it really gets special to me. There are SO MANY fun little pieces of character acting and bits jammed packed into this. You can put the op in slow motion and find so many little moments all throughout. The whole op seems to be in the context of the girls making a little introductory video for the band or something and all of the girl's personalities shine through so much. I'll mention two little bits from the multiple in the op. Theres this part right before the chorus where the girls seem to be practicing a little kick line maneuver that Yui proposed to the group. So they try it and Mio messes it up somehow and kicks forward instead of back. So they try again, except this time, Yui is looking and paying too much attention to Mio to make sure she doesn't mess it up somehow, so Yui messes it up. And finally they try one more time, and Mio messes it up AGAIN, and they all laugh about. Exceptionally cute. The best bit of the op is easily Yui's point point spin maneuever in the classroom desk concert. She does it three times, except by the third time, everybody in the audience catches on to what she's doing, and they ALL spin with Yui. Mugi makes a little shocked reaction immediately, and Yui doesn't notice until she finishes spinning and catches some of the slow spinners doing it, and she makes a very happy expression. ALSO also, I love the part of the op where they all like glomp hug Nodoka, because she clearly isn't expecting it, and seemingly just collapses straight onto the floor and it makes me laugh every single time I see it. Nobody else collapses like she does its hilarious. Anyways I'll stop gushing now but I can keep going for another 10 paragraphs LOL
