Who is Lain? What the heck was that all about in the club?

She was there in the beginning of the episode, but she said it wasn't her? ...and then she goes to the club when her friends talk her into it and she scares the bad guy away?

What is going on? What is "the wired?" What more are we missing?

Oh I forgot about the drugs thing (and I should have remembered, drugs, especially the ones that boost you are a big part of cyberpunk stuff), but that why seeing it again with your reaction is a good things ^^.

I'll just say this: Lain makes WAY more sense on the second watch. It's still weird and disjointed, but it goes from you saying "what the actual hell?" to being able to make theories and piece things together. You came in thinking it was horror because of the email from the dead girl. It's not exactly horror, but it is very definitely creepy and existentialist. "The wired" is the internet, basically. Remember that when this came out the web was still very new and kind of a mysterious wild west that people were still figuring out, and those were mostly computer hobbyists; people (especially futurists and cyberpunk authors) were still figuring out what the internet should even be called back then. A lot of people back then weren't even on the internet proper (unless they had access at college or work); if they were online at all (most weren't!), they got their email, newsgroups, file downloads, and other things through local BBSs with varying amounts of internet connectivity. AOL and Compuserve were early attempts to bridge that gap and bring the internet to the upper- and middle-class masses (and monetize it through their proprietary BBS-like platforms, of course). I was born in 76 so I remember a pre-WWW world when there was no online anything, definitely no online banking or shopping, no online video or music, all the phones were dumbphones (and if you didn't have a cellphone you were probably still memorizing phone numbers or keeping handwritten notes and business cards). TV and radio ads didn't have URLs (and people still watched broadcast TV). It's bizarre to think back and see how much has changed... and while I wouldn't trade away the convenience of the modern internet, I kind of miss the days when the web was so new and organic and mysterious instead of corporate, and when people had no choice but to go out and touch grass and meet each other in person. edit: There's a lot of weird little computing-related (and particularly, Apple-related) Easter eggs in this show. At the end of an episode, when it says "To Be continued" and the "Be" is red and blue, that's a reference to the Be Inc. logo. A former Apple exec working at Be led the development of BeOS. It was intended to be used on Be's "BeBox" line of PCs, but later it got ported to Macintosh PowerPC and Intel X86 hardware. Despite having a lot of advanced features (for the time), BeOS never got traction and kinda vanished. The creepy voice you hate that reads the episode titles was the "Whisper" voice from Apple's TTS library. Lain's old Navi vaguely resembles an iMac, though this is probably coincidence since they came out around the same time. "WIRED", of course, is a well known technology magazine. There are more, but I forget most of them now.

I like the soundtracks anyway... Does your cat have a broken tail?

I love this show while watching it makes you uneasy and makes you think what exactly is going on 🫶🏻

He has a tendency to attack his own tail so his crooked tail is from scar tissue. He’s ripped it open before. 🫠

My cat has a broken tail (it looks like a Pikachu Z-like tail, but black!!) because it had an accident when was a kitten because of a sofa, i think...
