A lot of anime that I am watching this week are getting me hype and Frieren is no exception!

I was wondering what was going to happen with Aura the Guillotine, and man was I not disappointed! I will say though, I didn't expect to get all choked up for a minute with Flamme...!

Cinema!. One the best episodes of this show. Love Flamme's character. Her visual design as "greek" like attire is cheff kiss. RIP Atsuko Tanaka, voice actress of Flamme. She passed away in of August of 2024 at age 61. Her voice was maravelous. The music in this episode is a masterpiece.

Remember when Frieren and Fern faced the monster that lure people with the illusion of a dead cherished one ? Frieren faced Himmel and Fern faced Heiter. But Frieren said that before, the monster took the apparence of her master, Flamme, who begged for her life, but Frieren was used to it. Now you can make it sense, Flamme surely must have begged for her life while facing demons just to make them lower their guard, so Frieren must have heard it a lot too, knowing it was just a trick. I always say that this show is a constant loop, everything is a loop that come back later, you have the exemple that I just bring above, but you also have Frieren saying "I have a feeling" to Flamme when she said that she is a powerful mage, and Himmel saying the same thing to Frieren. That won't be the last thing to come back around I can promise you that. I can also speak of the spell to cast a field of flower, that she used on Himmel statue back in episode two or three, and now you have her using it on the grave of Flamme and Flamme teaching it to her because it was her favorite spell, but that isn't the last time you will heard of this spell.

Absolutely epic mic drop. Cold AF. The way Frieren hides her mana works on us, too. We mostly see her casting pretty basic spells or just living her life, so it's that much more exciting when she shows off.

At this point when I was watching Frieren became my favorite character after that cold delivery frieren doesn’t even watch her do she walks way…I like the hero’s party and fern and stark, but frieren grilllllll!!!….i also watched it dubbed the delivery was amazing..I watch dub because that’s what I grew up on so I will watch any show dub unless there’s no dub then I will watch sub….

Nice trigun shirt love that anime ….don’t be sorry to show emotion and cry 😢…the scale doesn’t show mana …mages can sense and see mana like they showed frieren suppresses her mana to look weak when she’s really strong 💪

Aura didn't know the mana trick because Frieren lived in obscurity like Flamme asked her to and no demon she faced lived to tell the tale even if they had figured it out. Aura even said that Frieren only showed up 80 years ago. She was a relative newcomer to demons.

You still didn't seem to quite fully comprehend the mana suppression aspect from the demon perspective; showing off their mana levels (effectively the capacity of magic reserves you have to cast spells) openly is a display of their power/status and ensures their place within the demon hierarchy without additional violence. They get the concept of suppressing mana temporarily for stealth purposes, but they'd never use it against another mage, cos it would make them appear socially weak and unable to beat them in a straight fight which insults their pride/arrogance. How efficient you are at suppressing your mana is directly related to how much you practice and doing it constantly is anathema to the demon way of thinking/acting. The whole conversation Flamme has when she first meets Frieren and calls her an idiot for taking on the demon general Basalt in a straight fight is tied to this idea. To young Frieren at that point it appears that Flamme has less mana than her (to us the visual appears stable and unwavering), but from the way she talks and is acting her instincts tell her that Flamme is more powerful than she seems, which is very soon proven. Mages checking for mana suppression/stealth are looking for instability or any wavering in those levels (like trying to hold the flow of water or release of air pressure in check), because demons do it only for very short periods it's more of an innate ability to observe, so they typically don't have the knowledge/experience to spot fluctuations below a certain size. When Flamme initially instructs Frieren to suppress her mana it's to reduce it to 10% of her actual level and we get a visual reference of how much smaller she makes it appear. When we get the flashback with old Flamme when Frieren is meditating it looks smaller & more stable still, yet we know 50yrs have passed and she's been training fundamentals with Flamme the entire time, so she has significantly more mana and is actually doing an even better job of hiding it. Then during the montage when she's living in the woods near the human settlement that is shown to grow over hundreds of years, she's always keeping out of the way and every time when meditating her mana level looks essentially unchanged. When she encountered any demons either with Flamme or during the intervening years there were never any survivors and she never showed her actual strength openly, so she remained effectively hidden from demonkind. She's doing such a good job that when Heiter is first asked to assess her strength he thinks she only has 20% of his capacity, a talented human cleric/priest in his 20s/30s, but Himmel has similar instincts to what Frieren had when she first met Flamme. The first time Aura encountered Frieren with the Party of Heroes they forced a demon retreat destroying a great many outright without having the strength to destroy them all but she was one of four heroes and still suppressing her levels, so when she meets her again on her own 80yrs later, with no additional reputation earned (she'd stuck to her promise to Flamme, so that 10yr journey is the only time Frieren previously did anything 'heroic' publicly) and the level seems nearly unchanged she gets over confident. Frieren has called her bluff and it's only due to the spell with the Scales of Obedience that eventually shows those levels, as she temporarily stops suppressing her magic for what is probably the first time in nearly 1000yrs. She did this because if Aura had instead just had all her headless soldiers attack her simultaneously she could've been overwhelmed eventually by sheer numbers (she still has weaknesses, bit like how we were told Fern has developed the natural ability to cast spells quickly than her in combat). Apologies if the above was kinda rambling, hope it makes sense.

Loved catching up today - the series is growing on me every episode - I don't think I've ever encountered something that so cleverly showed the impact of different races living for different periods of time, even though that's a common concept in fantasy and sci-fi
