For the "why Jinshi is so smug ?", remember that he is particuliary close to Maomao and know her pretty well, he know she assume of herself as not wanting to be entangled with other if it's not "work related" and don't want to be in the front, she rather be discret in general, but she have this tendency to act before thinking when some injustice or a life is in danger, we saw it multiple time in season 1 and 2. Here, the fact that she defend Xiolan and took responsability to make something for Loulan to protect Xiolan, is a proof that, contrary to what Maomao say all the time and how she can act distant, she do have forged bond with people and do like them, Xiolan is her friend, but only Maomao don't register it like that. That also why Jinshi laughed when she said she wouldn't sleep well if she did nothing, because that a roundabout way of saying that she care and Xiolan is her friend, but Maomao don't understand that ^^'. So yeah, he is smug because he is not only happy that Maomao have a friend, but also because he know that he she need something, he can use that to have a favor, and he did it in the end. But we know that the kind of favor Jinshi want, would be only kind to Maomao because he clearly like her lol. Also, it's not Jinshi who was standing beside a grave, but the "beautiful ennuch" that all the girls talk about recently, the one we saw with the scars on his arms. But you will see it soon. I can't wait to see you react to the next one, because it will be the start of the last arc of this season, yep, it's a long one, and all I can say is, fasten your seatbelt and take tissues, just in cases.
