Marty Friedman THE GOAT!. He loves Japanese rock and is very verbal about it. WHAAATTT!!!...never listen to Megadeth??....shame on you!!!...HA HA HA. That's a rabbit hole that is worth to check.

These guys at Asterism are amazing. I hope they gain traction with these collaborations. Watch out for Sony and their blocking. They have absolutely no sense of humor.

You can see how much HAL-CA is excited to play face to face with Marty Friedman. I still think that she's probably the best guitarist currently active in the world. So, objectively, it's Marty who should feel honoured to play with her. But ASTERISM are such humble people... I saw them in Mannheim, Germany, one month ago at AnimagiC. They are such amazing people! They had a few signing sessions, and it's was such a pleasure to see them so close. By the way, her name is Haruka Noma. You know that "L" is the same in Japanese as "R," right? So, when you see "cluppo," it's read "kuruppo," and when you see HAL-CA, it's pronounced Haruka.

You already know there is no "R" or "L" sound in many Asian countries ... they have a sound they like to call "in between". This causes my wife to inevitably choose the wrong one while speaking ... which can create some pretty funny words :p .

When they want to say "I like rice," but instead... ๐Ÿ˜‚

Can't argue with that: i'm a fan of Kanami, but i think Hal-ca and Lisa-X may be two world-class monster-guitarists.. I think Marty Friedmann really is a happy guy being where he is now, playing and collaborating (and mentoring) young japanese talents (his bassists are freaking good too!!)

I'm kinda hesitant to call Kanami "a guitarist." She's maybe 30% guitarist, and the rest is her compositional and management skills. She is the musical soul of BAND-MAID, and the fact that she herself is a guitarist in that band makes her role quite multi-layered ๐Ÿ˜‰ Of course Kanami is one of the Guitar Goddesses, but she is much more than a Guitar Goddess. To call her "a guitarist" feels like a terrible understatement.

At 12:50, the minor 2nd harmony you mentioned, I don't know what she is doing exactly but I have a few hypotheses (but I don't think she's playing 2 notes at the same time on the guitar because doing minor 2nds with the way the strings are tuned would be incredibly difficult and the movement of fingers doesn't support this): 1. Marty could be playing the minor 2nd harmony (but we can't see him due to the camera view). However, the notes are too quick and too perfectly match her playing (in timbre and attack) for me to think this is likely IMO 2. She might have turned on a delay, set for a single repeat, that might be trailing her chromatic runs exactly one note behind (achieving this sort of minor 2nd harmony sound) 3. She could have turned on a detuned effect pedal, like some kind of pitch shifter or chorus/modulation effect 4. She is using a harmonizer type effect pedal to generate a second signal at a different relative pitch (in this case perhaps a minor 2nd).

Well, Kanami is a well rounded musician, to me, a brilliant one ( even a genius if you want to use this word which is sometimes abused for others), as well as a guitarist. Guitarist simply because she plays (very well) the guitar, and is able to use her instrument (of choise) to 'communicate' or 'connect' .To me this is enough for her to be called a guitarist and an artist. Some argue that maybe there are others who can play the guitar better (again..what does it mean better? maybe they can play upside down using their teeth, or something similar? or they think technicality alone makes the music an expression of art? boh...). In the end i agree with you (but i normally do, so nothing new here..), when you say she is much more than the guitarist. Is just i don't want to diminish her as a guitarist ....

I have a Megadeath CD, and in the lyrics there were labels that said "Solo Dave" Solo "Marty". It was hilarious. And you probably know Symphony of destruction. As you can tell, Marty was already used to playing in a band with two guitars, were he sometimes played lead and sometimes rhythm guitar. A thing that I learnt from listening to Jinjer was that bassists, when there's only one guitar, favor more string basses to be able to play their parts and also work as a second guitar in some places, and in the play of this song there were some parts like that from the bass.

Kanami is a unique guitarist, no doubt. It's just a strange feeling I have when people say "Kanami is a guitarist in BAND-MAID." Of course she is, but it's like saying that Shakespeare spoke English ๐Ÿ˜‚

Marty has lived in Japan for over 15 years now. His show Rock Fujiyama has been huge in promoting many Japanese artists. Hal-ca has been on the show multiple times and they have played live together more than once
