I thought I wasn't going to lose it in this episode. but you guys called it.

It was nice to see our girl Violet flourishing in class, but of course she didn't do too hot in writing a letter than has emotion within the text.

Luculia is a great person. I love that she wanted to help Violet. She could've completely walked away from her after passing the class, but her heart is so big.

...so big enough that no matter what, she loves her brother...🥹

Trying to write something emotional for someone when you don’t have grasp on said emotions is like asking someone to draw something they have never seen before…she did it Violet passed ….if the bother, sister story wrecked you definitely need tissue for this show…I remember what episodes number they were but there was some that had me balling like a baby 😭

I don't mind that you watch this version. Don't buy netflix only for this. Not worth it. This show is highly praised by veterans by the depiction of PTSD and how the soldiers had trouble in adapting to peace after a conflict. I think it's treated with great respect. Nittpic. ....you don't know what awaits you. This is only the beginning. The opening song is "Sincerely" by an old acquaintance of us, TRUE. The amazing Godmother of "Sound Euphonium".

This comment is more personal opinions than context this time, so you shouldn't have to read as much out loud at least. No worries on not getting Netflix just for this show, I totally get it. I'd have to cross reference more to see what nuances might be getting lost, but the only consistent noticeable issue so far with these subtitles is them frequently using 'memoir' instead of 'memory'. As Luis mentioned, the opening that you heard for the first time is performed by the singer TRUE who you already know from her doing the openings for all three seasons of Sound! Euphonium as well as theme songs for some of their movies. As has been the case with other anime we've both enjoyed you reacting to, he's kinda already covered several of the points I was going to make quite succinctly. This episode for me was around a 6/10 in terms of eliciting an emotional response by the standards of any other well produced anime (I still sometimes tear up briefly here each watch through, but less so than the first time I saw it); but maybe only a 4/10 by the levels within this series. It's entirely possible that some later episodes will full on break you, though I also get why this one tugged on the heart strings given your relationship with your brother. I also like Luculia and think it was subtly implied that Violet being able to delivery the letter to her brother was something her background helped with, as when she finds him he tried to initially lash out with his crutch but she just blocked it with her prosthetic arm. Any other dolls could've potentially been injured or at least scared off, but she was completely unfazed and her calmness perhaps helped him snap out of his self-loathing for long enough to realise what was actually happening. In case you haven't spotted it yet, I also posted an official tutorial guide to recreating Violet's elaborate hairstyle on the Discord, as I thought it might intrigue the cosplay side of your brain. The House of Mayla clothing boutique based out of Harajuku also currently have two official Violet Evergarden collections (a mixture of skirts, shoes and jewellery) in their current range. They have their own original ranges but do a lot of anime collaboration projects (Frieren is another recent one). Just double checked and it was myself that mentioned the Kyoto Animation arson attack in some of my comments under Sound Euphonium reactions, specifically Our Promise: A Brand New Day, Pt. 2 (in part explaining the production gap) and to a lesser degree under episode 1 of season 3. I still need to finish catching up and watch your reactions to episodes 7-13 of season 3. The second Violet Evergarden movie that eventually finishes this story was the final work released from KyoAni that featured contributions from those who were killed/murdered.

When I was in Vietnam, If any of us wrote letters home (I did) we were told to write about daily mundane things (not about what the war was really like) because they would be read by military censors to keep "sensitive" DoD information from the public. We had to continually think that way while writing the letters. Basically, the U.S. public never really understood what was really going on over there.

You need to move that tissue box much, much closer. There are episodes coming that hit even harder. For me, this is the first step that Violet takes in connecting to her own emotions. She is able to understand Luculias emotions enough to write that letter, which requires her to start to understand her own emotions. Part of that is that her own experiences allow her to understand Luculia's brothers emotions, even if it's subconciously, and it's possible that one of the reasons why Violet is able to write that letter is that deep down these may also be words she wants to hear herself.

The series never gives you this information, but violet bites things because she no longer long has a sense of touch with her hands. It's here way of gaining some sort of tactile sense of small objects like the stuffed dog and her broach.

You might want to start buying tissues in bulk for this show, NittPicc. Keep a few boxes nearby at all times. =)
