A lot of y'all have asked about the 20 minimum passing attempts qualifier used in the first four episodes of "Scattered." As Alex says, it's arbitrary but helps limit things down to a more reasonable 26,000 performances (as of its production). However, that also leaves out other horrors (and beauties) that deserve a bit of spotlight.

Alex walked through some of these stories with Seth and Will for y'all's enjoyment.

With King Henry cruising to his hundredth rushing touchdown, is there any thought f revisiting the Barry Sanders story that led to the video on Steve Bono’s stroll in the park?

I was more wondering how your alterations to passer rating would affect the big charts and passer rating records

sno

i would be very interested in records for lowest actual score for a perfect passer rating, highest score for a non-perfect passer rating, highest score for an official 0, and lowest score for a non official 0

uh huh

Dick shiner hahahaa hardly know er

So I looked up when "dick" became slang for genitalia and it's apparently attested as early as 1891 but may have been British army slang, and possibly wasn't well known in the US until well after WW2. So I'm gonna give those 1940s a pass on not being "with it", because they used to be with it, then they changed what "it" was! "it" is strange and confusing now! IT'LL HAPPEN TO YOU!!

In Dan Pastorini's defense, he was about average the later portion of his career, and as far as 1972 and 1973 are concerned, they did try benching him and the backups threw picks at twice the rate. So I don't think those seasons are entirely Pastorini's fault, I think that's just a legendarily bad offensive line

As a panthers fan, the front-loaded success in an otherwise disastrous performance is definitely more tragicomic. I'm basing this opinion on the 2001 Panthers, who actually won their first game of the season although the warning signs were there, as the entire margin of victory came on special teams: Steve Smith Sr. returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown (7 points) and the Vikings kicker missed a 46-yard FG and a PAT (4 points) and the Panthers won by 11. Then they lost the remaining 15 games.

I was thinking about y'all's Dorktown video about non-QB's success at throwing, so I'd actually like to know if you want to put up every non-QB who had like 20 career passes and see where they end up on the chart. I'd love to see where guys like Sanu and LT and Tony G are, as well as emergency situations like Walter Payton and Tom Tupa

I don't know why I felt motivated to look this up but I was curious if that awful 14-10 win was one of the first ever 14-10 games. It wasn't but the first was in 1921. In that game, the "Rock Island Independents" scored a field goal and a touchdown (10 points). Normal stuff, until you notice that the guy who threw the touchdown also kicked the FORTY YARD FIELD GOAL in 1921. What the hell was going on in football in the 20s?

I don't remember if this was already covered, but what's the largest sample of passes with zero completions? a real exhibition of futulity lol

Are there more ideas for Scattered going forward?

Incredible that there were QBs named Dick Shiner and Randy Johnson

Let's say Alex's "Real Passer Rating" becomes the next great QB metric. Should sack yardage or scramble yards be factored into the "yards per attempt" piece of the formula? I'm not sure because the stat is explicitly labeled "Passer" rating so maybe it should only apply to moments when the ball is thrown, but as a Bills fan who lived through Rob Johnson getting blown up every play, I feel like sacks should have some effect.

Real Passer Rating continues to be fascinating to me. I just stumbled across a game from 1985 where it looks like Kansas City quarterback Todd Blackledge may have come in for garbage time or something like that because KC was already winning 28-0. Point is, he threw 3 passes total, completed 0 of them, and 2 were intercepted. If I'm doing my math right that would be a Real Passer Rating of -250.7

I don’t know if there’s a Secret Base Hall of Fame, but Quarterback Randy Johnson should be a member.
