Alright, a few quick updates.

World's Unbound is now up on pre-order. I got back the first proofread, so that's the one up on the site. Should be nearly perfect so the 2nd proofread it's going through is just 'cause it's part of the deal I have. Those who want the edited copy now, let me know. Otherwise, I'll get the final, final up when I get it back at the end of the month.

AoB book 5 is done. It ended up being a little smaller than I thought it would be and I think I might revise the ending a little, to make it a little less abrupt. But it comes up to around 42k words. So usual novella size. I'll keep posting chapters every few days. Won't get to editing till a few weeks down the road when I 'clear' my head.

I'm also changing the name I think to 'the Adventurers Bond'.

Which leaves me with a question of what to write.

Book 7 of the System Apocalypse is percolating in my head. I have a great start in mind, but not a clue what the middle / end is going to be. While I know the 'points' I need to hit, I don't really have a 'plot'.  I could start writing, but I kind of want to wait till I have a clearer idea of where to go and what to do. I'm also wondering if this arc might need more than 1 book to introduce the area. So... yeah.

In lieu of getting started on something i might have to rewrite a couple of times, I'm going to play around at least till the new year. Play around in this case being starting a new series. :PIn this case, I've been debating writing a xianxia cultivation novel. I actually started a couple of chapters at one and then deleted it all because it was so bad early this year. This time, I think I've got a better idea of what I want to write.

Truthfully, I have 2 ideas - one for a pure xianxia cultivatio novel and another for a LitRPG take on it (think Once Upon a Time in China / Fong Sai Yuk setting with martial arts 'arena' fights). Sadly, I don't have time to write more than one book at a time so... we'll see. I definitely am not putting book 7 off longer than one more novel since otherwise, I know I'm going to lose the plot. :)

I’d be down for a cultivation story from you, with or without LitRPG elements. Those genres cross over so well. I think that’d be a brilliant story to have as a palette cleanse while working on system apocalypse :)

Well, the LitRPG one isn't really meant to be cultivation and more, hmm... street fighter with upgrades. :) And martial art hall building. I actually really like the idea, but workingo n the cultivation novel right now.

I think there is a lot of room for good cultivation stories. I really enjoy the cradle series by will wight, and the coiling dragon series and many others found on the Wuxia website... it was interesting the homage that the 10 Realms by Michael Chatfield and Cultivating Chaos paid to Wuxia stories, and I’m sure you would do great justice to a story like that. Part of it is I have issues with some of the ideas about women and treatment of female characters in Wuxia that comes out of Asia - and from your novels I really feel you write strong and fascinating female characters who aren’t caricatures

Tao Wong

Yeah... It's a weird thing where if you follow the 'traditional' stereotypes, then a lot of women depicted are on the 'simpering' side. Or you know, evil villain black widows. You can see that in terms of classics like Water Margin (I can't even recall a single woman in that novel) or even the low number of female characters in the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms. But, dig into it a little further and you end up with a more complex picture. Especially when you look at the outer regions of China where certain groups actually had female led clans. Though, some of the caricatures you see are from historical precedent (evil concubines are a theme in Chinese history...) Then you also get traditional wuxia where women play an integral part of the story, where some of them (like Xialongnu in Return of the Condor Heroes) are very much powers in their own rights. And of course, there's the various 1990's Chinese martial arts movies from Hong Kong which I will admit, I am likely going to draw a lot from. Women there are a bit more secondary, but not always. But I also find the entire wuxia / cultivation webnovel thing coming out of China now a fascinating view on the sexist culture that exists. And really, have you READ the romance / female driven novels? Those are super sexist too, just in the opposite direction. PS: I haven't read either Chatfield's or CC yet. I probably won't because, well, I want to write my own thing first then dig into theirs.

Do you have more infos regarding how the world is for the cultivation story?

Tao Wong

Typical cultivation novel world. So, kingdom wise more along the Warring States period. Dress wise, the usual hanfu style. :) Figure technology wise should be around the Ming dynasty, but societal wise, there'll be a few changes which takes into account the fact that cultivation actually works. :) Beyond that, we'll see. As usual, I have a vague idea of what the world is like and will see more grow as I write.
