SPOILER PEOPLE ....

So. I did the stupid thing I tell other people not to do - I went and read my Amazon reviews for book 6.

I knew the jump was going to be contentious.

I knew him breaking up with Lana was going to annoy some people.

I also knew him getting together with Roxley was going to be an issue.

And yeah, killing off Ingrid was always going to be contentious.

So... I was curious to read the reviews. And, obviously, the highest rated negative comment - 'MC is gay'.

Seriously,

1) Bisexual. Not gay.

2) We're 6 books in. It's been obvious he and Roxley have a thing. Is is THAT surprising?

On another note, I was surprised (somewhat) that people grumbled about the politics. I guess I can see that, and that the general public aren't hugely interested in a book dealing with the politics if they just want, smash bash.

At least that, I can understand and I don't mind. In fact, in some ways, I wonder if it's a criticism of my writing skills. God knows, I've seen good writers make politics interesting.

Ah well. Whining over. Appeal out:

- if you like the books, do please review it if you haven't. I don't know if Amazon will strip your review (because you're patrons), but I'd be grateful if you tried anyway.

Its not like you sprung any truly major surprises though. Apart from the focus on politics, which was a departure, though an understandable one, from prior books, there really isn't anything major to complain about. I will say that I don't really see why Roxley is attracted to John, they seem a bit too different and that attraction from Roxley has always seemed a but odd.

I mean...the reviews are like 90% "This was amazing" and 10% "But teh gays!" If I ever write a book, and I would like to some day, I'll be happy with that many good reviews. I agree that this book was more political, but I think that's something you often see in good series that progress through several books. Frankly, I tend to stop reading series that seem to rehash the same identical "MC gets thrown into yet another challenge nearly identical to the last 8 books and prevails in a similar way". As a character grows in power and becomes more noticed and more influential, their life will inevitably become more political. I enjoyed the delve into that new aspect of the series and seeing how John reacted. Not as if the other books didn't have politics even if they were more local.

*Chuckles* Roxley... is complicated. But a lot of his attraction to John stems from a few simple things - John isn't actually influenced by his various Skills / Charisma / etc stat. Add the fact that John, for the most part, is not part of the 'crowd' and John is EXTREMELY simple to understand (if not predict), and well, it's a nice vacation for Roxley. I'd note that (spoiler about Truinnar culture. Feel free to stop reading) is not necessarily looking at John as anything more than a lover. Truinnar are more like medieval nobles - marriage and bloodline is very different from who you take to bed. So having someone like John who at the end of the day isn't that interested in taking part in Roxley's inheritance/etc is attractive.

Nothing except Ingrid really surprised me tbh, I thought the LanaJohn break up was great it added some actual character growth, nice change from the moody sulking in book 1-2 and the fanboi scene in space was also great. All in all I enjoyed the political aspects in b6 but I'm hoping b7 isn't going to be a stagnate growth scene because he's not growing on a dungeon world anymore.

Lol, honestly the going in too politics was kind of the only direction left the way you were developing the books, not a fun of it 🤨 Hope next one will be more interesting, less building a group more kiking ass😁

Yeah. The next novel is a bit of a departure. I think it'll be more 'enjoyable' for those who aren't deep into the political parts.

As a reader looking at the reviews was such a big mistake. I promised myself to not do it again. It kind of unwittingly tainted my views. Even if I enjoyed the book a lot, a negative comment will make me think about it and possibly spoil my joy. I decided that this is entertainment so I do not really need to seek a truth on quality or literary merit. It needs to be fun for me and only my untainted opinion should matter. Also please make a note for spoiler :). I am still reading book VI had not gotten to the part of Ingrid. Regarding the Bi thing, how can somebody have missed it? It's there since the first book. As for the politics, i kind of like it also. It is good for world building and imagination. Keep up one of the most original universes in LitRPG gender.

Sorry about that. Fixed to tag as spoiler. And thank you. Yeah, reviews as a writer are even worse in some ways. I try not to read them because of that and just focus on writing.
