Did I accidentally write a romantic subplot into the book with John & Ingrid that I didn't intend? I just went over a bunch of reviews and a lot mention the fact that I teased them with a romantic subplot between John & Ingrid. Which... what?

I mean, did I write that in and miss it entirely? Or are people just reading into things that I never meant to put in. Because to me, John & Ingrid having a (romantic) relationship is kind of like John & Mikito having one (ick!).

This post coming from being stupid enough to check out why World Unbound has dropped to 4.2 rating. That's the lowest rating for any of my System Apocalypse books since, well, Life in the North.

I could see how they miss interpreted it like that

I'm out of sorts avid don't have reference near at hand but didn't John and Ingrid already have their time in the sun? Plus didn't three years pass with him being away? Was she supposed to pine for him in a world that she could literally be eaten by a monster on any given day? Sigh I need to get kindle unlimited again. I've been reading a lot of wuxiaworld fiction.I'm out of touch.

Well there was no romantic sub-plot, well maybe some people were hoping for a kinda harem scene with him being the only male in an otherwise attractive female party. (aside from Sam who just really only played a bigger part for a single book. ) Well she survived the first Story ark and so I most of us got used to the idea that she would be a recurring surviving char. I think for the ones of us who read the next book and also the foreshadowing done at the last capter so far it makes perfect sense to kill Ingrid otherwise she would have been the ideal Hitman for earth, now that seems to become John and Mikito's Job.

I can kinda see how people would think that. The two of them understood each other and their roles very well and there was some underlying tension that was like, under different circumstances there could have been something there. Also I believe there is a line after Ingrid's death where John mourns her loss because of "what could have been" or something like that and that could be interpreted as him having some kind of romantic feelings for her.

For me I kind of thought this maybe could happen after Ingrid’s messages she left John while she was scouting Seattle. They seemed kind of flirty and if you wanted to read them that way then her wanting his attention when he doesn’t respond could seem like she was interested. So that could plant the seed in the readers mind and then every interaction from then on could be viewed as them flirting even if it’s not

Ingrid was the First Nation's assassin. You're thinking of Lana. :)

Oooh. Good call on that line. Yeah. There's a book reference that that line comes from in my head, but I can see how no one else gets that.

Ah. Hmm... I can see that. Thanks. Damn. I really might have led people on.

Ooooohhhh well I've never gotten a romance vibe. I kept waiting for miss assassin to back stab our lovely John. I considered it a win when she didn't

On top of that, the always trying to scare John was somewhat reminiscent of a boy pulling a girl's pigtails in grade school. A vy for attention from the emotional immature or in this world the emotional broken and hammered. I dont think they ever reached any emotional depth that indicated romance, but there seemed to be potential in their mutual understanding and acceptance of each others self destructive tendencies and morally questionable actions.
