I finished it! And it's out on time. 8k, so this is not really a 'short' but more a novelette. A short novelette, but a novelette.

It's... well. I'm not sure how good it is. I know most of you don't comment, but I'd REALLY like your views on this short. 

I was trying for a little humor, a little mystery. I'm curious if that came through. How did you guys react to this?

I enjoyed it, I liked how you used different skills of each individual to figure out the mystery. I've always thought that with the cultivation novel a Sherlock Holmes level individual would be interesting. A scholar from the sect that's able to apply tid bits of knowledge to crack a case.

for a moment there I was kind of hoping the village turned into a sect of beast tamers or cultivators with a symbiotic cultivation method

I just finished this last night. I enjoyed seeing the energy cultivators struggles with cats in bags lol. The villagers response to seeing the sect cultivators chasing cats around the village was funny also. It does occur to me though, that Li Yao might be angry with Wu Ying (again) the next time she sees him. While she gets a mission going after furry kittens, he "gets" to fight the dark sect again. Get in quotations since I doubt Wu Ying is as enthusiastic about it now. I wonder if Li Yao and others will start to stalk Wu Ying, waiting for dark sect members to jump out of the shadows so they can fight them to.

*Laughs* Yeah. She's still in the stage of 'it's all an adventure' while Wu Ying is in the 'oh gods, this is dangerous' side of things. The next work... I think I know where we'll be at actually. I need a little bit more time to put the plot together but I'm feeling comfortable with where I intend to take it and how.

*Laughs* No. Just a writing prompt that made me decide to go a little insane. But the kitties WILL show up in future books.
