What age did you start seriously writing and what was your biggest inspiration during this start.

Andre A

When you started writing The System Apocalypse, did you already have all main plotlines planned for the series? Did you afterwards change any major plotline during writing that surprised even you?

You talk a bit about your business owner experience outside of publishing - what businesses have you managed / owned, and how have those experiences helped you be a better author and publisher ?

Grrm game of thrones is based off roughly war of the roses okay do you base any of your novels on any historical period or event

Tao Wong

At the moment, no. None of the series I've written have been based off a specific period, though ATL has small bits of the Warring States period in it. But mostly in the breakdown / seperation of kingdoms rather than any actual historical aspect. There's plans in the future for an epic fantasy based off a period, but that is many years away.

Heh. Well, mostly retail (e-commerce and physical), marketing consulting and PR and logistics is the majority of my business ownership side. I'd say learning to manage people, organisational structure, marketing and business principles and project management have been the biggest skills for being a publisher. As for an author - writing. Sooo much writing - sales copy, brochures, press releases, speeches, etc.

For the first book and a half or so, not really. I just started writing for the fun of it. I was letting John dictate who and what happened, as he told me who he was. So a lot of things in the first few books were a surprise to me. But even then, the System quest was something I knew was going to be important, I just didn't know how. Later on, when I knew what John was, the rest of the series and the finale fell into place in my mind along with his end. And yes! So many. John and Lana breaking up was a bit of a surprise to me. Ingrid's death. Bolo choosing to appear and disappear on me. Feh'ral playing less of a role than expected.

Hmm, seriously writing? I guess when I was 38? When I was making money writing already.... *chuckles* I started just writing for fun AoB and SA, and only really made it a career when I realised i could actually make money at it. I have been writing on-off for ages though, starting when I was 7/8. But mostly, I'd write, finish up work and set it aside, do other things and then come back years later to try again. So I've mosty had different periods when I'd be writing and then not.

Is there much actual historical background on the structure of sects as used in cultivation novels? In reading about outer, inner, and core disciples, and how badly they sometime behave even towards each other, I was suddenly struck by their resemblance to groups like the mafia, with "made" members vs "associates" and such. Was this a structure used by triads or other organizations in China?
