Hey everybody. Just a heads up. I'm going to be taking a break from Unintended Cultivator for the next two weeks. Some of it is just a sanity break. I can tell I've been pushing hard recently. Every negative comment that I accidentally read makes me want to take a long vacation somewhere without electricity or internet. Not just comments on UC, but negative comments on anything. That's generally a warning sign to me that I'm getting fatigued physically, emotionally, or both. Plus, there's this persistent thought in the back of my head that I should end the series with volume 13 and work on other things for a year or two. This is despite knowing that would make for a lousy ending. The fact that the thought persists tells me that I probably need a creative break from the series. So, I'm thinking it's better for the story if I step back and come at it fresh.

Some of this break is to let me catch up on admin work. I've recently received boxes of paperbacks for volumes 6 and 7 that need to be signed and shipped, for example. It's been a while since I offered signed copies for everyone else to buy. There's also some things I'd like to get done on my website. Did you know I had a website? Of course, you didn't. Nobody does. That's because I never do anything with it, and it's horribly out of date. The most recent entry on there for Unintended Cultivator is Volume 3. Volume 3! That literally came out in 2024. Like 18 months ago. And even for the existing entries, only Volume 1 has an Audible link on there. So, yeah, that needs some love.

This will also free me up to work on Unwillingly Summoned. It's under contract. It's supposed to be done this month (December). It'll be easier to knock that out if I can give it some undivided attention for a week or two. I don't think i can finish it in two weeks. It's about 40% done as of now. But if I can get it over the 75% mark, I can probably coast in that last 25% by the end of the month while picking back up with Unintended Cultivator.

So, the TL:DR version is: I'm taking a break. No new UC chapters for all tiers for the next two weeks. Starting December 15, things will return to their pre-break normal.

Eric, I’ve been following writers for damn near 10 years, and I can say without question that you are among an exclusive club of Beasts of the industry. You more than deserve a break my guy and should you come back and say 13 is it, then we’re with you. Enjoy the break good sir 🫡

Have a restful break!

I'd say take as long as you need, hell finish the other book before coming back to uc, I agree with the below poster, you chapter throughput is insane, and I thoroughly appreciate it.

No electricity or internet? Oh your planning a trip to the Australian outback?! Nice

Lycaon

Take as long as you need, and be well.

Don't put a deadline on the break, take as long as you need. Rather you take a year off and then re attack it with renewed vigor than having an unsatisfying ending xD we will be here for when you return!!

Take as long as you need. You're way too creative and have too much left to tell to get burnt out. Believe me, we'll still be here

Yep agree with the other comments. You could take a multi-month break from UC and we’d understand so no need to put a deadline on the break

Marnie

Kudos to you for taking the time you need to be in a better headspace.

You can’t end at 13. You just can’t. I prefer you take a long break. I agree you need to regroup. The last couple of volumes have been great for word count but not content. The chapters are filled with the same inner dialogue that is stalling the story. Take the time you need to develop the storyline. Make sure you have a clear direction that’s not focused on daily chapters of the same internal conflict that Sen has repeatedly. I love the series and the characters so I hope you continue but I can see you spinning. You’ve done a great job establishing the internal conflict Sen has so as a suggestion, instead of one shot one killing nascent souls followed by endless chapters of inner dialogue give us some harrowing battles. I think it will reignite your passion. Great job otherwise.
