I know you guys aren't used to me venting about FEELINGS, but this is one of those few times I'm going to do it haha. I just don't know how to make myself feel better right now and maybe throwing my thoughts out here will help.

I don't know where to be anymore with my online presence.

I hate Twitter for art, it is just a mess of people's every thought and politics is constantly thrown in my face and I just don't want to follow that stuff when I'm looking for art to be inspired by. It's like, I can't just follow someone and only see their art and art related things that they talk about.

Instagram is meh, I don't really understand it and it's not super great for posting digital art and no NSFW anything. It's mediocre at best for what I want. I also find it awkward to interact with fans there.

Newgrounds is also new territory for me and I really haven't given it much of a chance yet. It just feels strange for me to post sketches and less polished work on there.

And Hentai Foundry...well let's just say I feel out of place there now that I don't primarily draw NSFW content anymore.

I just miss Tumblr and I didn't think it'd effect me this much, but apparently it has a little. I lost more than half my fans from there and I totally get people not wanting to use twitter. -I- don't even want to use twitter. I still check it from time to time and there so much less art on there now, it's sad.

I just feel like I'm in limbo and don't know where to try to fit in anymore as far as my art presence goes.

---

I'm still gonna draw and everything, I just feel a bit lost. It's weird and dumb and I hope it goes away soon. On another note, thank you guys for continuously supporting me when you are able! This comic is probably the most motivating thing for me to keep up my drawing these days.

Here's hoping another, better social media platform will gain popularity in the next coming years and be much more art friendly without hating on NSFW artists.

I am sorry Kumi, though I wasn't on Tumblr and thus didn't get the axe (I hate social networks for the reasons you pointed out: people venting their every thought, anger, politics drawn out for no reason, and, generally speaking, a downright mess), I understand that you are missing a place you were used to, where you shared your art and kept contact with the people who loved it. I read articles of people who felt really stranded after Tumblr threw them out of the window: people with thousands of followers, whose blogs were widely known all around and maybe even constituted a source of income for them. Many are trying Newgrounds, others have turned to open source and went on Mastodon. (Personally, I recently joined "artalley.porn" there just for the sake of it, and that looks like a relaxed place by now; but we'll see.) I'm sorry that you and many others were kicked out by Tumblr, both for the unfair treatment you received and because I get embittered every time adult art is discriminated and marginalised, especially when this is done by hypocrites who exploited it to grow fast and reach fame - and then suddenly feel like they don't need that inconvenient presence anymore. Let's hope that someday a new network, dedicated and committed to adult art, rises to give a home to all the wonderful artists that were now suddenly thrown out of their virtual homes.

I understand the feeling because I am from Brazil and we elected our own Trump 2.0 some days ago. Everyone is still pretty much hating each other here. As for the art, how about pixiv and pinterest?

kumipumi

Don't even get me started on pinterest haha. It's definitely not what I'm looking for. Pixiv is too questionable to me so I'd rather not go there.

The thing is, i just really want a place that isn't only for adult art, but just accepting of it as long as it's filtered accordingly so people who don't want to see it don't have to (like tumblr used to be). HF is a turn off for me just because it's only there for porn art, which is fine but I personally don't want to only follow that. It just sucks right now, but it'll blow over and something new will come along. I remember resisting my friends encouraging me to start a tumblr when it was new because I was still hanging on to deviantart. XD

I've felt the same way. Twitter is not a great platform for art, and its difficult to look at it for any length of time without feeling some sort of anxiety. I think newgrounds is okay, but it really does have a different feel. I'm not sure the rating system is something that I need. Tumblr really did fill a void. I hope something comes along that can replace it soon.

kumipumi

Yes! I dread opening twitter. I'm constantly spammed with likes of things I don't give a crap about it (80% of the time has nothing to do with art) and hashtag this and that. I don't even know where to look. I am also not a fan of the rating system on Newgrounds. I don't really know why its there when a simple like/fave option is fine. (Don't really get the leveling up stuff either??) If I want critiques on something, I will ask for it myself. I guess, I don't post my art to seek out other peoples critiques in order to improve my art. I just draw something and put it out there then move on and improve on my own terms.

Yeah, I am new to Twitter and I wasn't expecting so much noise. You can turn off people's retweets from your Profile page, which cuts down on noise from folks you follow that like to retweet everything. There is a Media filter tab for individual timelines. So, if you are looking at an artist's account, you can scroll through only the pictures they post. What Twitter really needs is a Media filter tab for your Home timeline so it could work like Tumblr. Just show & tell me about your art and cool cat videos, I don't need to know what you ate for breakfast or your thoughts on Jungian archetypes.

You used to focus on DA? I think an artist of your caliber would still have a HUGE following there. Just... it's very, VERY poorly moderated, and of course doesn't accept smut AT ALL, so it's tough.

ScuzzBucket

I wish I could help- but I'm usually the LAST person to adopt any new platform. I really never cared for Tumblr- everyone's site was a mess, searching was impossible, and it was way too hard to leave comments and replies! It actually bugged me when my favorite artists used that for most of their content, because I'd only check my feed every once in a while, and some of the artists I was following would upload several pics A DAY, thus spamming the entire feed. It was MONTHS before I realized that you had a sizeable SFW tumblr, and posted stuff that I didn't see elsewhere in it! I just hope you can find something soon. Newgrounds is apparently people's "default" choice, even though it wasn't very good and people quit it for a reason.

kumipumi

Not the same thing as social media. I want a place where I can follow other artists to be inspired by and also a place for my own work that allows me to interact with fans. My own private space is just that, private, only about me which is fine for a portfolio or a comic but not as the main place I use to interact with other people, artists and fans alike. Something else will come along someday, until then I'll keep posting where I normally post and tough it out. XD

Tumblr made some changes later on that really helped with the whole notification thing if you only want to know when specific people update and made it much easier to reply to posts. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me and I prefer the cleaner look of the dashboard over twitter any day. Newgrounds really fails at being good on a mobile device, which is what most people use these days. Unless they can really speed up and catch up with the mobile layout format, I don't see how it's going to come close to replacing a tumblr like platform. It's also really horrible to look at art on there, especially if you don't pay for a membership to remove ads. So yeah, I don't see myself loving that place nearly as much, but I'll try to post some things there.

kumipumi

Unfortunately, deviant art for me has become pretty obsolete. I made a small attempt a few years ago to keep a presence on there, but it really just felt pointless and I didn't care about it. I didn't really get much out of it as far as interacting with folks on there. A lot of them seemed to be immature, probably cause there's lots of young folks on there so that's understandable. So yeah, it just isn't as great as it was several years ago, at least for me.
