My favorite angry face to draw. <3

I have a feeling the rest of the comic is gonna look very different stylistically by the time I jump back into it. Been really digging the looser sketch look I've been doing and it may be quicker for me to draw with.

It'd be a little tighter/clean than the above image, but what do you guys think? I always hobble back and forth between wanting super clean inks and a looser polished sketch look. Maybe its just me wanting a change of pace. XD

This might sound crazy, but how about a mix?

I really do like how clean your style is but I say that you should do whatever helps you to keep the comic going.

Given the amount of drawing required for your comic, and that it is a passion project/side hustle, I suggest going with the sketch style to save you time and stress. Maybe just do really clean images for the chapter covers.

I felt your "loose sketch" style was utterly fantastic before, so this might be very fun and cool- it has a lot more energy to it sometimes. I found that your art looked best in the sketch phase AND the completed phase- the energy of your sketches left the finished linework more dull by contrast, and that didn't get "fixed" until vibrant colors were added. So I'm looking forward do it :). Especially with badass Rowena faces like this.

I know what you mean! I always enjoy the inking process but then I feel like things look boring until I’m all done coloring and adding lighting. I should have plenty of time to nail down a different look that I’m happy with before I start up again though!

Cuervo

Your lines are very good in all methods, so for me, as long as the coloring/lighting is done as nice as you are doing it, I think it would be good for you to try a sketchier version for renewing the spark of creation :-)

ScuzzBucket

Cool! I can't wait! I remember you planning on making the comic black & white at first, but yeah- it looked more bland that way. Sketchy & black & white might work if you want to do it quickly, though.

I agree with Scuzz, the loose lines seem more energetic. Sometimes, it doesn't translate to the inking, refining so much that you start working against yourself. I've heard Stjepan Sejic and Incase talk about it. Working on a comic is a balance between competing principles: is this polished enough to express what I want and "fuck it, good enough".

kumipumi

Yes! Its definitely different doing comics. I always admired how Stjepan Sejic could balance it/make me not care that it wasn't 100% polished when I see his stuff. I'll take my time approaching the next chapter since I don't want my style jumping all over the place from page to page. I also like that with the sketchy style, I can actually sketch, ink, and shade with the same brush. :)
