WIPWednesday - Chonkhur the Gupper (Patreon)

Hey Critical Crew!

We're getting things finalized for next month's "Black Bazaar" release, and we wanted to show off this piece for your mid-week check in. This subterranean black market themed release will have statblocks for some of the various shopkeeps and denizens to make them easily dropped as NPC's into your games. For this week, check out Chonkhur the Gupper for WIPWednesday!

Chonkhur, an obesse gupper collector and gormound, runs "Chonkhur's Menagerie and Delicatessen" a wondrous shop in the Dark Below where one can buy living creatures - everything from a lowly goldfish to a dragon wyrmling or even a captive Humanoid. Chonkhur is a shrewd businessman, and any "stock" that does not sell quickly enough ends up on his chopping block, transferred from the show room to the butcher, and served as food to the denizens of the Dark Below. Many view his food as delicacies, or exotic, transferred from the far corners of the world, the surface, and planes beyond. Known for being impatient, Chonkhur can always be found with his diminuitive gupper brethren in tow as they cart him around, wait on him hand and foot, and even cook and feed him his meals. Rumor has it he's eaten a fair number of the help in moments of particular rage (or hunger), as locals claim the guppers helping him often appear to be a rotating flock...

We are obsessed with this art piece, and you can see from the earlier exploratory thumbsnails and the progression below, that this was a fun one to see get fleshed out

Who's ready to bring Chonkhur to their tables next month?? Let us know in the comments how you would introduce him to your table and we'll share our favorite ideas!

Stay tuned for more soon!
