Understanding the Version Numbers! (Patreon)
Content
Let’s use the two latest versions of Lukestria Family as an example: v0.6 and the fix v0.6.1.
First number: v0
The first number after the “v” (v0) indicates that the game is still in development. As long as it stays at v0, it means I’m still working on it, and the story is incomplete.Once it changes to v1, that means the game is complete, and you can finish the full story. But! Even when the game reaches the completed version (v1), that doesn’t mean I’ll stop working on it.Whenever a bug is reported, I’ll fix it and release a bugfix update. And whenever I come up with an idea that feels fun or interesting, I’ll keep adding things until there’s enough to justify a new content update. However, once the game reaches v1, it will no longer be my main priority, as I’ll shift focus to working on a new project.
Second number: v0.6
The second number represents the major update version, for example, v0.1, v0.2, and so on.This number increases whenever I release an update that adds new content, advances the main story, or introduces new mechanics that expand the gameplay.
Third number: v0.6.1
The third number is for patches, bug fixes, or minor updates. It usually appears when something needs to be adjusted, like fixing bugs (especially game-breaking ones), improving some details, or making certain events or content easier to find or trigger.
I also count internal patches, even if they're not published, with this third number. That’s why sometimes you’ll see versions like v0.5.5, and other times just v0.6.1, like the latest fix for LUFA.
So, is it easier now to understand what the version numbers mean?Great! Now you’ll always know exactly what kind of update each version represents!
Have fun~~
