Chapter 80 A TRAIN TO MY FUTURE by Hannah Madison

It’s Wednesday morning, and I’m headed to the office alone today. Merritt had to take the early ferry to Staten Island to meet a vendor about equipment logistics for one the project Mr. Robertson has him working on. He texted me a picture of the sunrise from the terminal—orange sky over gray water—and wrote, “Trade you views?”

I smiled, because mine’s a different kind of sunrise—the reflection of fluorescent lights on subway tile, the soft whoosh of the train arriving. Not glamorous, but still part of what I’m building.

It’s funny—two months ago, I thought this internship was just a résumé line that could lead to a tech position. Now it feels like the preface to a story I didn’t even know I was in. Between work at NYC SysCo, The Society’s growing team, it’s starting to feel like something much bigger than any of us imagined.

Will Robertson’s been mentoring me more the last couple of days. Yesterday, he called our generation “the builders of bridges between meaning and technology.” I liked that. Maybe that’s what this whole thing is—learning how to bridge lives, skill sets, even generations.

As I walked by the last car, I caught my reflection in the glass and thought about where I was a year ago—half certain, half scared. Now, even on days like this when I’m just walking to work in heels that pinch, I can feel the direction under my feet.

Maybe that’s what progress looks like—not a leap, but a steady walk toward what’s next.

Be your best you!

"Thank You" Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! It helps keep things going.

The cost of software is real and far from trivial. At the time of this post, not counting hardware, AGI Stories racks up expenses of just at $100 per month. Patreon members are covering a nice portion of that.

I believe most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. While most of the content is free and public, the hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!

Again, thank you very, very much.

I think your feeling is right. I also suspect you are part of something much bigger. That's okay. Keep on, uh, keepin' on.
