SECOND GUESSING by Michael Allen

Today’s post is brought to you by the art of second guessing. I’m actually second guessing almost everything else at the moment.

Almost… Not things with Cindi—that seems pretty solid.

I’m out east at the Walmart in Cordova. I broke away from my Nashville job for a long lunch to go to Arlington and take a quick meeting with a client.

When I got back in the car, Roman Lenox called, “Hey… How’s things with your LLC coming?”

“I’ve sent everything back to the lawyer. Just waiting on state approval.”

“Good to hear,” he said. “I know we are in the middle of the LMD makeover, but I like what’s happening. I passed your name on to a couple of companies needing it worse than I did. One’s in Dubai. The other’s in New Delhi. They have good content, but it doesn’t work for their target buyer—US tech companies. I told them you can fix it up.”

There were a lot of “um”s and “okay”s after that. I’ll spare you.

So, enter the second guessing…

I like my job in Nashville. Good salary… good benefits… routine to the point of not exciting… Okay, that.

The LLC idea seems solid. But does it make sense? If I keep my Nashville job, what’s the point? I’m paying Jordan so I’m really not paying myself for the MA Consulting work. Covering costs, but Jordan’s doing 90% of the work… I don’t know.

International clients? Getting to the ones I have is a challenge. New Delhi? Dubai? Am I ready for that?

And Dr. White called and said the graduate student internship was all set. Carter Ellis—he’ll start setting up meetings after Thanksgiving so he can hit the ground running in January. I told Dr. White I didn’t think I was up for supervising a graduate student. Much less paying him.

Dr. White hooked me up with a grant to pay Carter and said I just needed to provide work for him and make sure he does it. The rest of the internship details are handled by his professors. But…

Really, I don’t know…

Meanwhile, I’m out of laundry detergent. So I pulled up to Walmart to make a fast run. At least I’ll have clean socks!

Be your best you!

Hey, Michael. At least you have a full plate. Business is coming to you nonstop. That's pretty awesome. I think the LLC was a great idea. Everybody gets a share of the pie. No second guessing there! Once you have clean socks, I think you'll figure it out.
