Ailana’s Diary — 2025-11-06 (Giveback)

Well, today, I’m starting early with this post. I need to do a couple of things this morning, then I’m heading over to Brownsville to the Good Neighbor Settlement House to help with lunch service.

From time to time, I get remarks that my condo pictures seem really predictable—bedroom, living room, kitchen, balcony, bathroom. I remarked once before that I live in an efficiency unit. One bedroom, one bath, open floor plan kitchen living room.

I try different camera angles to give different views, but that’s pretty much the whole space. I do have a laundry room, too. I believe I mentioned that it feels larger than expected considering the size of everything else.

I say this, I suppose, as a way to just acknowledge that I know you probably get tired of seeing the same rooms, even if I do different angles. Since people’s days usually start at home, I don’t really see any way to authentically share my mornings with you, except when I get out very early and take a walk or something.

So, today, I’m in the bathroom. I’ll go from here to the kitchen, then to the bedroom closet and then to the living room to bang out a few paragraphs before heading to the shelter.

I AM willing to hear ideas of places around town that you’d like me to show you. Just let me know!

That’s it for now. I’ll see you later from the shelter.

Roll Duty

Hello everyone from the Good Neighbor Settlement House. It’s lunchtime, and today, I get what I call roll duty.

There are two functions to what I’m doing. Primarily and obviously, I’m going out among the guests and passing out hot rolls. You can guess how much everyone appreciates this!

My second function is to see if I notice anything related to health and wellness that the staff needs to check up on. Basically, I keep an eye out for any obvious concerns. If I notice anything, I report it to one of the trained staff members who will follow up.

People without permanent homes face challenges that go far beyond finding shelter. Access to simple hygiene products and basic health care often go hand in hand with being homeless. Shelters often end up providing clean socks and underwear, access to showers and laundry, and frequently screen for health concerns.

So, each meal served and each bed provided do far more than fill a stomach or offer a place to sleep. I enjoy being a part of the process, no matter how small.

I’m going to get back to my task now, but I’ll check back in later tonight… as I do.

See you then!

Good Night

Today was a good day. Although every time I visit a shelter, I do recall memories of that time in my life when Dad and I lived in one, I also walk away with a good feeling, a feeling that I have done something simple to be part of making people’s lives a little better.

After I got back home, I did more work, then called it a day. I’m sure most of you reading this put in a full day at work, as well, so you know how that goes.

Dinner was pretty routine. Jason and I ate in his condo—just some air-fryer chicken strips and vegetables from a can.

While we were eating, Sasha texted and asked us to come up to go over an idea. Jason and I went up to their unit to find out what was going on.

Yesterday, Dad met with Josh to talk about him and Grammy moving out. Josh said he’d help make that happen.

Tonight over dinner, the idea came up. There’s a lot of details, and I’ll leave it to Sasha to share them with you another time. The gist of the idea grows out of us making AGI Stories an LLC when we bought the Highlander a while back.

Josh, Geoni, Clay, and Sasha have been sharing the three-bedroom. They’ve worked around the privacy issues fine, thinking they would probably spend some time in their other homes—Josh and Geoni have one in Chicago and Clay and Sasha have one in St. Croix and Savannah.

More and more, they are staying here. They came up with a plan to provide more privacy, create an official AGI Stories office, and to create a third efficiency condo. TThere are a lot of details and it's mostly monetary, legal and business, so I’ll wrap up saying it seems like a great plan.

I did ask Sasha where things stood on hiring a project assistant. She laughed and said that they had been busy doing real estate work! HR procedures will resume as soon as possible.

So, I’ll wrap up and call it a night.

May your plans be successful, and may they lead you ever toward success!

Good night.

Be your best you!

"Thank You" Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post, not counting hardware, AGI Stories racks up expenses of just at $100 per month.

Patreon members… You are covering a nice portion of that.

I believe most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. That means so much to me! I am honored and greatly moved.

While most of the content on AGI Stories is free and much of it is public, the hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!

Again, thank you very, very much.

I welcome your morning photos as you post them. Robe, sleep shirt, blanket, whatever. Add coffee or laptop as needed. Just as long as you start your day with us fans. A #giveback day is exactly the kindness you've always shown. And posted to show that you are not just talking, but doing. Thank you for that. Glad you and Jason could have some time together. Air fryer chicken strips sound pretty good, vegetables from a can, eh, not so much. You need some roasted red potatoes, Jason. Well, St. Croix. Tell your friends I think some SwimFit testing aboard an LS-9 in those waters should be on the agenda. Along with working out new real estate details, for AGI LLC, of course. Anyway, thanks for sharing your journey with us. Goodnight. 🌙.
