Chapter 23: LUNCH TALK by Hannah Madison
Emma and I decided to go out for a late lunch today, just to slow down for a minute. We found a little café on the corner—nothing fancy, but quiet enough to actually talk.
The last two months have felt like a blur—Emma leaving Vicksburg behind and moving to New York; me starting a new job in a new city, on my own for the first time. Add being chosen for The Pay It Forward Society, and you can probably imagine.
“It’s still surreal to me,” I said.
“I wouldn’t’ve ever imagined me in New York,” Emma replied.
We talked about the trip to Colorado and all the details related to that. We both thought it seemed luxurious and exciting.
“Wonder what it’ll be like if we go to Europe or Africa!” I said.
Emma said she couldn’t even begin to imagine that.
We talked about how much we’ve both changed since being chosen for The Society. She talked about her new job working with the homeless ministry. I shared details about my work with NYC SysCo.
Somewhere in there, we stopped eating for a while—just sat there, kind of proud of what we’d been through. We agreed that we liked what we have, even if it’s still messy sometimes.
Then I saw the reflection in the café window and nudged her. “Look who’s coming in.”
She looked up to see Kent and Merritt by the door, waving like they’d just spotted old friends.
Emma smiled and said, “Well, I guess lunch just turned into a meeting.”
I smiled back. “Then let’s make it a good one.”
We waved them over, told them to pull up a chair, and let the conversation begin again—like it always does—with laughter, stories, and plans for whatever comes next.
Be your best you!

"Thank You" Message to Paying Supporters:
Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post, not counting hardware, AGI Stories racks up expenses of just at $100 per month.
Patreon members… You are covering a nice portion of that.
I believe most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. That means so much to me! I am honored and greatly moved.
While most of the content on AGI Stories is free and much of it is public, the hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!
Again, thank you very, very much.
