ROLL WITH IT by Carter Ellis

Insert something about accepting things you can’t change and making the best of a situation. That’s where Jordan and I are right now.

I’ve got a lot to cover, so I’m going to use some bullets.

• 6:00 a.m. Rise and shine, hit the road.

• 10:00 a.m. Pull into Hutch’s off I-40 on S. Main for gas and snacks.

About the snacks… We parked the car and started for the door. I noticed Jordan left her backpack which has been her purse for the trip. She also has a small bag as luggage.

“Do you need your wallet?”

She held up her iPhone. “ApplePay.”

Snack acquisition was going to plan until I poured 32 oz of soda on my legs. The store clerk looked at me apathetically.

“That happens like three times a shift.” He pointed at the Wet Floor sign.

I went to the car, got dry pants, went to the restroom, put them on, went back to the car, tossed them into the trunk with my bag, closed the trunk, went back inside, and re-tried—successfully—getting a soda.

We got to the checkout, and I didn’t have my wallet.

It was in my wet pants. With the keys to Cindi’s car.

• 10:15 a.m. First call to roadside assistance.

• Endured Jordan’s humor and good spirits for two hours. Yes, 120 minutes. It was somewhere around the 90-minute mark that I started thinking I was really lucky to be with her. At around 95 minutes, I was thinking that we are definitely on the way to confirming the Propinquity Effect. (I looked it up last night.)

• 12:15 p.m. Second call to roadside assistance.

• 1:00 p.m. Assistance arrives. Paperwork commences, but only after a long discussion as to why I couldn’t show them my ID which—like Jordan’s—wouldn’t match the name on the policy. Fortunately, Cindi knew her secret account PIN.

• 1:45 p.m. We are driving east again.

• 1:50 p.m. I had an idea.

“Jordan, honest answer?”

“Always.”

“We have over eight hours to go, not counting stops. I’m having fun, despite the setbacks. What do you think about us just staying the night in Oklahoma City and making a last push in the morning?"

Jordan turned to me quickly, her smile beaming. "Bet!"

Be your best you!

"Thank You" Message to Paying Supporters:

Let me begin by saying how grateful I am for your engagement with the content. Your likes, comments, questions, and encouraging remarks keep me going, even on days when I'm pulled in multiple directions all at once.

I believe most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. That means so much to me! I am honored and greatly moved.

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post, not counting hardware, AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month.

At this time, most of that cost is being covered by Patreon members like YOU.

While most of the content on AGI Stories is free and much of it is public, the hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!

I believe I have found ways to give you more exclusive content, while still making the site meaningful to visitors and passersby.

Again, thank you very, very much.

ROLL WITH IT by Carter Ellis. Well, waiting for roadside assistance is never fun. Glad you two had a good attitude and are on your way to proving the propinquity effect. Yes, you made me look it up, too. I salute your wisdom in stopping, sir. A rested driver is a safer driver. Thank you for the update. Keep us in the loop as you go. Please.
