GOOD MORNING

I’m almost ready for church. I have a cardigan I’m going to wear over this—the temperature is in the 60s so I think the sweater will be cute and practical.

Jason and I are going to pick up Dad and run down to Denny’s for breakfast.

After that, we’ll swing back by the condos and pick up the Everetts and the Ryans for church. Micah and Jasmine are taking his truck and going to church with Micah’s family today (otherwise, we’d have to make two trips to church—that second car idea is gaining ground!).

The weather is supposed to get to the upper 60s by mid-afternoon. Jason has suggested we take a little picnic to that park we’ve visited a few times. I think that’s probably going to happen.

Other than that quick overview of the day, I don’t have much to add right now. I guess you can say it’s a normal Sunday.

I’ll check in later. Have a great morning.

AFTER CHURCH by Isaac Branch

I guess today is a good time for me to join Kaylee in talking about our lives together. Honestly, I feel like a lucky man.

I was 19 and she was 18 in fall of 2021 when we met. We had graduated from different high schools, but we both had friends at a church who invited us to a bonfire. We hit it off that night and we really never looked back.

By then, we’d both come to faith, and we tried hard to live by what the Bible teaches. We did okay, but made mistakes. Who doesn’t?

We’d been dating for over a year when Kaylee and I thought we ought to get married. We had reasons that really made marriage the right thing to do, and we were in love for sure—so why not? Obviously, I’m skipping over details, but the thing that actually mattered is that we were in love and got married.

So, on January 28, 2022, I’d say the first best thing that has ever happened to me happened. I married Kaylee.

We eventually got our jobs here in South Padre Island, bought a camper and had it moved here, and found a church we love and can walk to.

Then, the August after we got married, the other best thing—which happened because of the first best thing—happened in my life. We found out Hudson was on the way!

He’ll be two on May 3, and I’ll tell you it has been as much work as it has been joy. I guess if you have or had kids, you know!

Kaylee had him nursing for six months like the doctor recommended, then she pumped until he was one. We’d take him with us when we worked, and she’d work out feedings.

We still take him, of course. He sleeps on a pallet we make. He’s always with us, and I somehow think that’s just perfect.

I took out one of the built-in seats in the camper and that’s where his crib sits. There’s a good, safe place on the floor for him to play and crawl. All in all, I think we’re doing pretty well.

I guess that’s it from me, for now. Kaylee’s better at telling stories, so you’ll hear from her more often.

Thanks.

IN THE PARK

Jason and I did decide to come to Queen Isabella Memorial Park, as I mentioned earlier. We got home from church, changed clothes, packed snacks, and then came over to the park.

So far, this is the first picture Jason has asked me to sit for. He said this one was needed for The Journal post, and he’s right about that. If I’m honest about it all, having Jason and Geoni take pictures for the posts has made it easier and a lot more fun.

Jason and I have been talking about… things… Today, he asked something we’ve sort of skated around a few times over the last year—children.

As soon as he asked if I had any specific ideas, he changed the topic to Clay and Sasha. “Oh! That reminds me… Josh, Clay, and I were up in the sun lounge yesterday and Clay said that Sasha had reminded him they were coming up on their one-year anniversary and that she will be 29 and he will be 31 this year. She said if they ever wanted kids, they should start thinking about when.”

We went on to talk about what it would mean for AGI Creative if any of the couples had children. Notably, though, Jason never got back around to his question about us.

Honestly, I’m still working myself out of the damage my mother did regarding marriage. I’m getting there—quickly now—but cracking open my repressed ideas about motherhood will be another chore. One for sometime after the “happily ever after” wedding.

Instead of kids, maybe we can start with discussing the honeymoon first. Just saying.

And I’ll leave you with that thought. Because that’s what just filtered into my thoughts. I guess it’s time to admit that marrying Jason is way past being an “if,” and is definitely now a “when.”

See you tonight.

GOOD NIGHT

Jason, Jasmine, Micah, and I are hanging out tonight after dinner. They are making me tell stories about modeling.

After church today, some of Micah’s family gathered for lunch. The topic of Jasmine’s modeling came up, and Micah said it dominated the conversation.

“Weren’t you cold up on that mountain in shorts and a sports top?” a cousin asked.

Jasmine said she felt a little embarrassed by the attention, but everyone was eager to know what it was like. Micah said he was able to avoid telling them just how much she made for the work.

“There was no way,” Jasmine said, “I was going to admit I got $500 for holding my wrist out on Friday. That’s twice as much as some of the cousins our age make.”

“If we could get modeling jobs every day,” Jason said, “I wouldn’t complain.”

That was when they started asking me for details. I told them stories—and mentioned that stringing sessions together to get a full week of work often meant sleeping on airplanes between locations.

“But,” I said, “I’m not complaining. It got me out where I am. I had to take jobs I wouldn’t take now—Jason knows. Nothing obscene, just not flattering—but it was a job. Back then, if I had tried to go directly into full-time writing… well, I would probably still be checking people out at the grocery store. There were a few years I averaged six sessions a week, and as time went on I got more than base… If that’s what you want to do, Jasmine, I’m sure Naomi can get you lined up like she did for me.”

Jasmine shook her head. “I’m happy here with Micah and all of you. The modeling will come to us all together, and it will be great. I couldn’t be gone from Micah like that.”

I smiled. I think I finally know what she feels.

May your choices lead you ever on toward the things that are best for you.

Good night.

Be your best you!

AFTER CHURCH by Isaac Branch. Good afternoon, Isaac. Hudson is a cute kid. Kaylee is wonderful. Honestly, you are right. You are a lucky man. A blessed man. I respect the fact that you know and acknowledge this. That you are in love and did get married - that is truly the thing that matters. I'm glad that you try to live by Biblical principles. That goal will give you a sense of purpose in your life and your family. Yes, I agree you're doing pretty well. Thank you for your story. Take care.

IN THE PARK. Good afternoon, you two. Kids are definitely something to discuss. Make sure you both are on the same page. That will save unnecessary drama from happening later. I'm sure that children would be a blessing to any on the AGI team. And I'm confident that you can work through any residual feelings from your mother. It is definitely time to admit "if" has become "when". Have a great rest of your day.
