GOOD MORNING

When I got back to the apartments, Jacob was just coming into the common room and he waved.

“Addison made hot chocolate. Come get some.”

We went into her and Izzy’s apartment and sat down and she poured the cocoa. “Well, nice surprise. How are you getting on with all this Shay business?”

“I passed my background check. Since it was my idea to move her here, Eric wants me to get a security clearance like for a government contractor job.”

Jacob nodded. “What a devious plan. You suggest Shay move in away from the guards, then you… you turn out to be the wolf in sheep’s clothing!”

I laughed. “Something like that…”

We sipped our hot chocolate as Addison told us about Olivia Medina, who would be Shay’s live-in guard and roommate. “It’s crazy… All of us are locked in now. We all have to keep the secret or the whole thing unravels.”

“Well, crazy or not,” Jacob said as he got up to go get marshmallows, “we all want what’s best for Shay.”

Speaking of Crazy… Addison took a sip and looked at me.

“Merritt, have you ever wondered what it would be like if I had a crush on you? Then I found out you were with Emma, so I backed off?”

Once I let that replay a few times, I finally replied, “Not once. Never.”

I looked at Jacob who had closed his eyes and was shaking his head.

Addison smiled. “Sometimes I get this feeling that… like in another universe, that happened.”

“You had a crush on me?”

“Yeah… I mean… it’s not unreasonable.”

Jacob brought back the marshmallows. “I told her that was crazy. It was just a dream or something.”

“Dreams come from somewhere,” she said.

I was still sort of stunned, so I just nodded.

“And,” Addison replied, “is it any crazier than Shay pretending to be a girl named Mara Voss while the actual Mara is off on a motorcycle pretending to be Shay?”

Jacob handed me the marshmallows. “She does have a point there…”

In the summer of 2024, I was in the early stages of the now-defunct Time Travelers storyline. The image in today's chapter came from August of that year.I am NOT suggesting anyone try to jump in on that storyline, but here's the scene I'm talking about.

2024-08-10 “Didn’t Ask For This” by Merritt

There were some really good bits in that storyline, and this was one of them. The whole storyline was about people existing in the same universe simultaneously at different points in time.

Emma was from 1881 and Merritt was from 1985. They were thrust together by the powers that moved them, and they didn't want to let being forced together in time and space also force them to like each other. But they both liked the other, nevertheless.

In the scene I linked, you can see that in that universe that Addison did have a crush on that Merritt. So when I grabbed the image, I was reminded of that!

I couldn't help myself!

I dredged up a fossil from another universe, dusted it off, and displayed it for you to enjoy!

If you were to fall down the rabbit hole of that series, you’d see a few familiar elements. But The Chosen is, in my opinion, a far better framework, and I absolutely have no plans of going back.
